Chapter Six: A Changed Life

Connor kept visiting Maggie when she was in the hospital, and on October twentieth, at 12:45 PM, he was able to take her home, though she wasn't fully healed yet. He carried her out of the hospital and to his car.

As they got closer to the car, Maggie wanted to be put down. She had thought of a plan to get home but she was unsure if it would work.

"Connor, put me down, I can walk on my own." she said to him.

Connor put her down and Maggie tried running away, but couldn't even walk. She only moved a few steps and almost fell on the ground, Connor catching her before she hit the ground.

"Maggie, you can't walk at all, you need to go home and rest. I won't treat you badly at all when Sophie comes over, I promise." He said to her.

He put her in the front passenger seat and headed home.

Maggie looked out the window as she was being taken back to the house.

When they got there, Connor got out of his seat and came over to Maggie's side of the car and picked her up and took her into the house. He took Maggie to his room to let her rest there.

"Maggie, you can rest in my room for now, but first I need to do something." he says.

He put her on the floor and handcuffed her hands behind her back and tied a piece of cloth over her mouth and lifted her shirt to see her stitched-up side.

Maggie panicked and tried to scream, but couldn't because of the cloth on her mouth.

"Shh, hold still; this won't hurt a bit." Connor said calmly but viciously.

He grabbed one of her stitches and pulled it out of her side.

Maggie screamed into the cloth on her mouth, wanting him to stop.

Connor took the cloth off her mouth and rubbed her side, but it was bleeding a bit and it hurt like hell to her. He uncuffed one of her wrists and cuffed her to his bed, laying her on it to let her rest a while.

"Hush, I was just testing. I'm not going to do that again, I promise." Connor sat on the bed and stroked Maggie's hair calmly.

Maggie looked up at Connor and wasn't sure what to do anymore. She simply gave up and lay there motionless.

Connor heard a knock at the front door. Before he went downstairs, he tied the cloth on her mouth again and he hissed to her, "Hush, don't say a word. I'll be right back."

Maggie just lay still and closed her eyes, wanting her nightmare to end.

Connor opened the front door and saw Sophie. She doesn't look good.

"Sophie, honey, what's wrong? Is the baby coming?" he asked.

Sophie nodded, sweating a bit.

Connor quickly ran up to his room where Maggie was.

"Maggie, I need to get to the hospital, Sophie is going to have her baby soon. If I find out you left of this room, I will find you and pull all your stitches out of your side and let it get infected."

Tears welled up behind her eyes and she kept very still on the bed.

Connor left the room and said to her, "I'll be back sometime to take care of you if you're still in here."

He closed the door and locked it so Maggie couldn't get out.

Maggie lay on the bed miserable and sore; her life was going to change even more, Connor was going to have a baby to take care of and he wouldn't want her anymore. She would mean nothing to him as long as she still lived.

At 5:27 PM, the front door opened and then closed again. It was Connor and he seemed very depressed. He went upstairs to his room and unlocked the door and walked in. He saw Maggie asleep and noticed she was a little paler than she had been before. He walked over to her and put his hand on her head. Hmmm, she doesn't have a fever. He then sat next to her and shook her to wake her up.

Soon enough, Maggie opened her eyes and looked over at Connor, she sensed there was something wrong with him but she couldn't say anything to him.

Connor untied the cloth to let her talk.

"Connor, what's wrong? Are Sophie and your baby okay?" Maggie asked curiously.

Connor shook his head and told her what was wrong, "Sophie died trying to give birth to our baby, our baby is dead as well. She wasn't fully developed yet."

Connor uncuffed Maggie from the bed and grabbed her by her shirt collar. He threw her off the bed and she hit the wall and fell to the floor.

She tried getting up but couldn't, her entire body protesting the movement.

Connor got off the bed and stepped on her already injured side.

Maggie tried grabbing his foot to make him get off her side, but she was so weak, she couldn't even lift her arm high enough.

He grabbed the back of her neck and picked her up that way.

She looked over at him, extremely pale.

Connor realized she was so weak and ill that she couldn't fight back.

"Maggie, are you okay? You look like you're half dead." Connor questioned.

She replied, but was barely audible. "I . . . I'm . . . starving . . . Connor."

Connor finally noticed how skinny she'd gotten since he'd brought her to his house and he let go of her neck, bending down and holding her close to him. He realized he might have ended up killing a person that meant the world to him. He picked her up and took her downstairs to the kitchen to feed her something. He sets her in a chair, but she couldn't even stay in the chair.

"Maggie, help me out here, I know you're weak, but at least try to sit in the chair, please?" Connor asked, very concerned about her.

She tried to stay in her chair until he fixed something for her to eat.

Connor fixed her a grilled cheese sandwich and got her a glass of orange juice in case she was sick.

Maggie ate her sandwich slowly, savoring it in case she didn't get something else for a while. She drank her juice as fast as she could, her throat as dry as the Sahara Desert.

Connor gave her some ice cream for dessert to bring her blood sugar up.

She ate the ice cream at a measured pace but enjoyed it.

Connor smiled and said to her, "You feeling better, sweetheart?"

He rubbed her head and she replied smiling, "Yeah, I feel a bit better."

He kissed her cheek and then he kissed her lips.

Maggie blushed and smiled. "Connor, may I take a shower, please?" she asked.

Connor nodded and showed her the bathroom, letting her alone. He brought her a night dress to wear to bed after her shower.

After her shower, Maggie dried herself off and dried out her hair and brushed it out. She then put the dress on. It was white and it looked like a dress she would wear to her Homecoming dance. Maggie walked out of the bathroom and into Connor's bedroom.

He was there, waiting for Maggie to enter the room. Connor walked over to Maggie and kissed her forehead lovingly.

"You look very pretty, darling."

Maggie blushed and smiled at him.

Connor picked her up, thinking she was still a bit sore from her side hurting, and sat on the bed with her in his lap. He looked at Maggie, smiling, and rested his hand on her stomach curiously.

Maggie looked at him, seeming confused and asked, "What are you doing, Connor? Is everything okay?"

Connor nodded, "Thinking about what would it be like to be a father, an actual father."

Maggie asked him, "Do you want to . . . you know . . . have a baby . . .?"

Connor's eyes widened and he asked her, "Are you sure you can go through with that, Maggie?"

She nodded, slightly scared, but she knew she could trust Connor to not hurt her unless it was an accident.

"Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you, I promise." Connor said.

Soon enough they'd turned the lights off and fallen asleep. Later in the night, Maggie felt sore but she thought she knew what was going to happen the next morning.
