I'm So Sorry
Slowly, everything comes back. From months, years of being trapped, all alone, he’s free. He can feel his insides getting back together and the fresh feel of a breeze. He finds himself placed on soil, feet from Wanda. He wants to get up but can’t. He’s panting. He’s exhausted. He spent months thinking this was fate. He dreamed of this day. It’s surreal. What if the remaining ones forgot him? Or are gone too? What if he’s the only one back with Wanda? He turns to Wanda who’s experiencing the same thoughts.
“Wanda?” It sounds more of a question than a statement. Peter turns and wants to faint. His family. They were split in the fight. (No Civil War here folks) It’s Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye, Hulk and Antman. Black Widow rushes to Wanda, holding her in a tight embrace. Peter turns, “Where’s Mr. Stark?” Steve looked down, not wanting to break the kids heart. Peter pleaded, “Uncle Steve, where’s Dad?” His voice was hollow, empty. This couldn’t be it. Peter shook his head, “No. No he’s not.” Steve nodded sadly. “Thanos said we had to sacrifice one of us to save everyone. We were all ready but Tony already went up there, fighting Thanos, he got the gauntlet off but we were too late. I’m so sorry Peter.” Peter shook his head, hugging his knees, keeping his head tucked between. This couldn’t be it. Tears streamed down. Tony died to save him. To save him, Wanda, Bucky, T’Challa, the Guardians of the Galaxy, everyone. He spent the better part of his life proving he was a good person, a hero. He was.
Clint placed his hands under the crying boy, his crying nephew. “It’ll be okay. It’ll be okay.” He looked past Tony’s body being carried by Steve. It was enough to make him throw up. He was all alone now. Clint pulled him in close, “It’ll be okay, you have us. He told me to give something to you, I have it safe in my pocket.” Peter nodde, mumbling a “thank you”. Clint nodded, holding onto Peter tight giving him the reassurance he needs.
On the jet, Clint gave him some blankets and pillows. Clint pulled out a laptop and gave it to Peter along with a USB. Peter once again thanked him. The USB had a file in it. Peter opened it and there was a video. He played it.
“Hey kid. If you’re watching this then your back home safe. I had this video for a long time but I had to change it. I’m probably gone now. I know, you miss me. How will you live life without me? Look at me bud, it’s going to be okay. I promise you. I made sure that even though I won’t be here anymore, you’ll still have the Avengers okay? You are going to have to take care of Mom alright? And your new sister too okay?” Peter nodded, tears streaming down. “It’s going to be okay. You know why? You, Peter Stark are unbreakable. No matter what happens, you always smile. You always carry on. You always prevail. Enough of my vocabulary, I love you so very much. If I didn’t have to do what I did I wouldn’t have. Peter Stark, you have made me the proudest father ever. You will carry on and become the best owner of Stark Industries. I made a changes to the suit. I love you so much. I love you so much my little sunshine. Ti amo molto il mio piccolo raggio di sole.” Tony gave a comforting smile and then the video slowly went dark.”
Peter was still crying but he felt confident. He put on his mask, and instead of KAREN’s voice, it was his father's. “We’ll get through together.”
