What is real depression?

Do you know what real depression is? (Those who haven't experienced it!)

I have seen lots and lots of people telling oh I have depression when actually they are going through minor mood swings and a couple of bad days.

Now, I know many of you will say that depression does have mood swings, miss! 😂

And yes you are absolutely true, depression does has mood swings, but if you observe I have written above 'minor mood swings' and depression has major mood swings, plus that's not the ONLY symptom in depression.

There are other symptoms with time span, if those symptoms prevail, you should opt for medical attention immediately.

If you feel I'm criticizing anyone or making fun of it, then no, I'm not.

Being a psychology student for three years and working under on for more than three years I have seen that people in depression go through and I myself have experienced it as well.

The term "depression" people have made it sooo common, I mean it's day to day life as if it's just another common word like you are saying good morning.

Which is absolutely wrong!

And this is why according to me, people kinda do not focus or do not give that much importance to the term depression.

I'll give you an example now, the first time when we heard the word COVID 19 or coronavirus, what was your reaction?

"My goodness, Bhagwan/Jesus/Babaji/Allah and might have remembered all other gods and said "please mujhe and family walon ko bacha lena" and some might have also prayed for others.

Arey, if anyone near you would even cough you would glare at him and sanitize your whole god damn house.

Am I right or Am I right?

And now when you hear the news of this pandemic, we are more lenient than the previous months?

Yes or no?

Yes, we do take precautions, but we don't possess that type of fear in our minds as it was for the first time.

Why??

Its because, every day from March, every single day we are hearing the same thing again and again, morning and evening!

Hence that word has decreased its value!

The same is happening for depression.

When someone comes and shares it with you "I have depression!"

"So what, har kisi ko ho hi raha hai meko bhi hai." This is what we get as an answer.

And there is where we miss the real victim of this illness.

So, I thought why not provide you with needed information which will help you the hope people around you 😊

I'm smart na?!
😂😂 🙈

Okay now let's get back to serious mode.

What is depression?

Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called a major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think, and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living.

More than just about the blues, depression isn't a weakness and you can't simply "snap out" of it. Depression may require long-term treatment. But don't get discouraged. Most people with depression feel better with medication, psychotherapy, or both.

In simple words, you feel you are staying in some kind of black hole, and it's pulling you more and more towards itself.

You aren't interested in anything or everything you do, you feel everything is a burden upon you, you just want to come out that whole but you can't. You feel "empty" from inside.

It is as if you are surrounded by people but still it feels that you don't have anyone.

Common causes include:

Family history. You're at a higher risk for developing depression if you have a family history of depression or another mood disorder.

Early childhood trauma. Some events affect the way your body reacts to fear and stressful situations.

Brain structure. There's a greater risk for depression if the frontal lobe of your brain is less active. However, scientists don't know if this happens before or after the onset of depressive symptoms.

Medical conditions. Certain conditions may put you at higher risk, such as chronic illness, insomnia, chronic pain, or attention deficit hyperactive disorder. (ADHD)

Drug use. A history of drug or alcohol misuse can affect your risk.

About 21% of people who have a problem with substance use also experience depression. In addition to these causes, other risk factors for depression include:

low self-esteem or being a self-critical personal history of mental illness certain meditations stressful events, such as loss of a loved one, economic problems.

Many factors can influence feelings of depression, as well as who develops the condition and who doesn't.

* What are the symptoms of it?

~ A depressed mood during most of the day, especially in the morning

~You feel or have a lack of energy almost every day.

~ You feel worthless or guilty almost every day.

~ You have a hard time focusing, remembering details, and making decisions.

~ You can't or you sleep too much almost every day.

~ You have almost no interest or pleasure in many activities nearly every day.

~ You think often about death or suicide (not just a fear of death).

~ You feel restless or slowed down.

~ You've lost or gained.

~ Feel irritable and restlessLose pleasure in life Overeat or stop feeling hungry.

~ Have aches or pains, or digestive problems that don't go away or get better with treatment

~ Have sad, anxious, or "empty" feelings.

While these symptoms are common, not everyone with depression will have the same ones. How severe they are, how often they happen, and how long they last can vary.

Your symptoms may also happen in patterns. For example, depression may come with a change in seasons.

Timespan:

When you have five or more of these symptoms for at least 2 weeks, bro, GO!

Don't underestimate it saying noting will happen I'll handle it all by myself, please don't be Khatro Ke Khiladi and risk your life.

Do no and I repeat DO NOT take chances with this.

Okay, here we are done with using our "psychological" terms.

So this all what you read above, this was only and only for the awareness, only for you people to observe your friends and family who are dealing with problems, stress and depression so you can go and have a talk with them and understand them.

Because obviously, we know that any depressed person leaving a few will ignore this topic and won't even look at this page.

This is not to scare you, this is just to make you aware of what the depression is, in reality.

If I helped you even a little, do comment and let me, it will keep me and my team motivated knowing we are on the right path.
