Missing Memories

Just a little reminder that you can follow KhaoticKids! This summer we have some fun things planned! So follow us and stay tuned... ;)

Today was a day unlike any other, very special in fact. But that wasn't the case for Little Tomas, as he laid in his bed, waving his toy train around in the air.

"Oh, Tomas!" His mother yelled from downstairs. "It's time for breakfast."

Poor Tomas only got up to stop his mother from worrying about him. If it wasn't for her, he probably would have never moved at all.

"I'm on my way," Tomas said as he moped downstairs with his toy train.

His mother was in the kitchen making waffles, his used-to-be favorite. "Cheer up, honey bun! It's your birthday."

"Yeah, but..." Tomas trailed off looking at the toy train in his hand.

His mother followed his glance to the train. She pushed it aside.

"I'm sorry there's nothing we can do, sweetheart," Beatrice sighed. "But I know if he was here today, he'd want you to have the best birthday. So do it not only for me but for him, okay?"

Tomas mustered up a smile. "Okay, Mom."

After breakfast, Beatrice Eod got to work setting up her son's birthday party. She hired clowns and rented the largest bouncy house in town. She invited all the kids in Tomas' grade and even had the party catered by Isla's ice cream. Beatrice wanted her son to have the best party imaginable.

"So, what are you thinking?" Isla asked, pulling out a menu. "I recommend the Snail Slime Sundae and the roach-covered chocolate ice cream cake."

"Uhh..." Beatrice let out. If she was regretting hiring Isla or truly contemplating the menu, we'll never know.

Meanwhile, the khaotic kids were taking a stroll in the neighborhood wondering which family they wanted to terrorize next.

"Can we rob one-eye Joe?" Aaron asked.

"We already did remember?" Asor replied, "He has nothing but junk from the eighties."

"I know but he's a pirate!" Aaron whined. "He's got to be hiding gold somewhere."

"Correction: he was a sailor." Larry chimed in.

"Same thing!" Aaron said.

"Guys, here's one house we haven't robbed," Mya pointed at Tomas' house. "And it looks like they're setting up a party."

"Oh, that's Mrs. Eod's house, she owns a bakery on Flour St," Aaron said. "She makes the best cakes."

"Of course you would know that," Larry teased. "Anyway, should we rob this house?"

"We have to! That birthday cake is calling my name," Aaron said practically drooling.

Larry looked to Asor, while Aaron gave him pleading, puppy eyes.

"Fine," Asor said, giving in. "But, we're getting money too, we need to get a new plasma TV for the base."

"YAY!" Aaron shouted.

"If it's chocolate cake, we're burning that house to the ground." Mya chimed in, narrowing her eyes in disgust.

"We'll need disguises, though..." Asor said, conjuring up a plan.

Meanwhile, after deliberating the horrendous catering options, Mrs. Eod heard the doorbell ring repeatedly.

She went over to open the door. "Why hello there..."

"Hi, we're the entertainment!" Larry said.

The crew was in full clown makeup and costumes with eerie smiles on their faces.

"Oh good!" Mrs. Eod said. Last time I'll hire clowns from a shady website, she thought.

"Why don't you come on in, the kids are waiting-" Mrs. Eod said as the fake clowns excitedly pushed past her.

The crew walked into the overly decorated backyard. There were larger than life bouncy houses, varieties of carnival games, and the cake was a giant Thomas the Train sculpture. Aaron's eyes widened and he was about to go skipping off before Larry pushed him back.

"We have to get the clown show over first, remember?" Larry told him.

Aaron sighed impatiently. "Fine..."

"Children!" Mrs. Eod called. "We have some special guests here to give us a show!"

All the kids stopped what they were doing and plopped down onto the grass, eager for the show.

The crew looked nervously at each other.

"Uh... Knock knock," Asor started.

"Who's there?" Mya said.

"Tomato,"

"Tomato who-" Mya said.

Asor pulled out a hot tomato and threw it at her face. Mya screamed falling to the ground. Asor and the boys were chuckling as Mya slowly rose up again. The kids happened to be giggling too, all except Tomas.

"KNOCK KNOCK," Mya asked angrily.

"Who's there?" Asor asked, still laughing.

"My fist,"

"My fist who..." Asor said as he figured out her joke. "AAH!"

Mya chased Asor around the crowd with her fist raised. "Get back here!"

Larry and Aaron stood there as they watched Asor possibly get pummeled.

"Anyways! Time for our next act!" Larry announced.

"Booo! You guys stink!" One of the kids shouted.

"I punch kids for a living!" Larry threatened, rolling up his sleeves.

"Roll your sleeves back down, there's no muscle to show!" They hollered back.

"Why you little-" Larry jumped into the crowd and chaos ensued.

Aaron took this opportunity to steal the cake while everyone was distracted. Tomas looked around at his disaster of a birthday party.

"This is the worst birthday EVER!" Tomas shouted.

Everyone froze. Asor and Mya stopped throwing rocks at each other. Larry let go of the kid he was about to strangle. And Aaron stopped mid-bite and put the cake down.

"I didn't even want a birthday party but I decided to give it a chance." Tomas started. "Now, I regret trying to have fun, it's easier to be sad."

"Oh no, honey, don't say that-" Mrs. Eod said, but Tomas ran off into the house.

"Well, that sucks... Back to this cake." Aaron said, continuing to gobble the remains.

"Alright, everyone party's over!" Mrs. Eod announced and ran after Tomas.

"Dang," Asor said. "Did we really just ruin his party?"

Mya slowly took off her clown hat. "I think we did."

"Should we steal him some balloons to make up for it?" Larry said, throwing the kid to the ground.

Aaron patted his stomach. "Naw, he'll be fine, trust me."

Mya rolled her eyes. "I think it's deeper than that."

"Let's go eavesdrop on them," Asor suggested.

The crew walked over to the windows and peered through. They saw Mrs. Eod attempted to comfort her hurting son as they both sat on the sofa. He appeared to be sniffling.

"Sweetheart, it's going to be okay. We still have a lot of fun things planned today-"

"Mom, it's not the activities. I just miss Dad. I miss when my birthday was simple. It would be just us going to the park or the movies. I don't like now, I miss before." Tomas said.

"Tomas-"

Tomas stood up to go to his room. "Thanks for the party, anyway, Mom."

Mrs. Eod sadly watched as her son went up the stairs to his bedroom. The khaotic kids peeled away from the window to regroup.

"Mr. Eod? What's so special about him?" Larry asked.

"If any of you had any brains, he wants his dad back!" Mya said.

"How are you expecting us to do that?" Asor said. "I'm not Santa."

"Yeah, for all we know, he's changed his name and is living in a different country or something..." Aaron said, licking his fingers.

The crew slowly turned and shook their heads at him.

"Anyway, it's the least we could do for the kid," Mya said.

Asor and Larry sighed. "Fine,"

"Aaron?" Mya asked, looking at him.

"Okay, fine," Aaron said.

"Let's look around, there has to be something here..." Asor said.

The crew snuck into the house. The kitchen was a mess and it was quiet. Too quiet. By the time they entered the living room, Mrs. Eod went upstairs. They found a memorial of Mr. Eod near the family photos. They looked around the living room, taking in all the details and seeing if anything stuck out.

"Uhhh, who's Chocolate Milkshakespeare?" Larry asked, pointing at one of the novels on a bookshelf.

"There's a guy named Chocolate Milkshakespeare?! Get the book, he must be a genius!" Aaron exclaimed.

Larry reached up to grab the book, when he pulled on it the bookcase swung open.

"What the cliche is this?!" Mya asked.

"It's a secret room, duh..." Asor replied.

Mya shot Asor a fiery glare and he put his hands up to surrender. The group decided to walk into the secret room to discover what was inside.

The room contained blueprints of train models, manuals, tools, and mini train tracks lined the walls. There were rows of toy trains in all different colors and sizes.

"Lots of trains, I think this family has a problem," Larry said.

"Yeah, no kidding," Asor said.

"Be respectful!" Mya warned.

"Yeah, sure like you're never-" Asor was interrupted by Aaron's shrieks of excitement.

"DUDE! HE HAS A BOX OF FRUIT ROLL UPS HERE!" Aaron screamed.

"Aaron, don't eat those, they've probably been expired for years..." Larry said, in disgust.

"They do have some cobwebs, but it just adds to the flavor," Aaron said, already slurping up a roll, which made the crew almost throw up.

"Back to the task at hand!" Mya reminded them. "He must have a box of memoirs or something here."

The crew continued their search, but there just seemed to be just trains and old food everywhere. They were about to give up until Asor struck gold, which just happened to have dust bunnies.

"Guys, look!" Asor said, pulling out a box from under a table. "There's a camera and a photo album in here."

"Perfect! Now, all we have to do is show Tomas and his mom," Mya said. They walked out of the secret room with the box. The moment they stepped out, it shut behind them.

"Creepy..." Larry commented.

They walked up the stairs and knocked on the door. The door slowly opened by Mrs. Eod who jumped back in surprise.

"I was just about to pay you guys," she said, laughing sheepishly. "Totally..."

"We're not here for money-" Mya said.

"Although, you can pay us if you want," Asor added.

Mya glared her eyes at him. "No, we found this box and we really think you should look."

Mrs.Eod looked unsure. "Is this another one of your clown tricks? Seriously, I'll give you money so you can leave fast."

Aaron pushed the box into her hands. "Just take it already. We don't have all day."

Mrs. Eod took the box and opened it. "What...?"

She looked back up and the clowns were already gone. Along with her wallet as well. Beatrice rushed over to Tomas' room.

"Tomas! I think you want to see this!" she said as she knocked on the door.

Tomas opened the door and saw the box. "What's that, Mom?"

"It's a gift from your father," she said slowly.

A smile crept upon his face. "Really?"

"Yeah," Beatrice said. "Open it!"

He took the box, opened it, and saw a note inside.

Hey, Bud

I might not always be there for you but I want you to know that I'm thinking of you right now. You're playing with your trains and running around the room with a smile on your face. Sometimes, it's hard to be happy but I want you to do something for me. Do me a favor and keep smiling, okay?

Love,

Dad.
