The Forgotten Sister
Liz stared at the screen still in shock from the last sentence. How could she be in so much danger and not even know it?
"Fine! I give up! Where are you?" Maggie's voice shook Liz enough to notice she had missed the last sentence of the person on the screen, she stared at it and attempted to figure out what she was saying.
"-can be easily defeated if you carry around a simple pocket knife. Now, I would tell you more but I can't yet trust that you're actually who you say you are so I've taken the liberty to program this chip with all the information you need to find the next video. I know that this is all a shock to you but know this- no one you know can be trusted. Please, Elizabeth be safe."
The video shut of as quickly as it had started and a small chip popped out where you would insert a disk, Liz picked it up carefully and pocketed it. She tried not to dwell to much on the women's words, "no one you know can be trusted" . Liz had never been quick to trust, but no one she knew? That included Maggie, her grandparents, her favorite cousin Parker, and a whole lot of other people she had known much longer than the ominous women on the screen.
"Liz this isn't funny any more!" Maggie worried voice echoed from below Liz and she slid out of the room before anyone would be suspicious, more suspicious then they were already that was.
"There you are crazy!" Maggie bounded around the corner and wrapped Liz in a tight hug "are you okay? You look so pale." Maggie raised a fist to Liz's head and gently tapped on her skull. "Hello? Earth to Liz."
"I'm fine." Liz lied, "I'm just- sort of really tired."
"Sort of really tired?" Maggie raised an eyebrow before shrugging and grabbing her backpack "we don't keep secrets Liz."
"Did I hear something about secrets, now what have you done Elizabeth." There was her grandmother, practically invisible until somewhat had a secret.
"It's nothing Mrs.Frost, me and Liz were just talking about who we liked!" Maggie winked at Liz "But I have to get going me and my parents are going stargazing!"
Gran raised and eyebrow "It's raining."
"Yup, it's this knew this called... raingazing! Thats right, the stars are always prettier in the rain." Anyone who didn't know Maggie would have assumed she was just making up blatant lies, but Liz and Maggie had been friends long enough that they had developed a sort of secret language. Stargazing meant that Maggie would sneak out and meet Liz later that night.
"Well, missy. You'd better get your story straight or make up better lies to get out of studying."
Maggie nervously laughed, "that's me! making up silly lies to get out of studying." Maggie shouldered her way past Liz's grandmother before making a run for the door.
Gran nodded at Liz, "Interesting company you keep." before walking away.

"What does it mean?" Maggie examined the strange chip in her hand "I've never seen anything it could plug into."
"Me either." Liz admitted, "but it has to plug into something."
Maggie's eyes lit up "maybe we could ask your cute cousin!"
Liz scowled "Parker has nothing to do with this."
"But he is cute."
Liz turned away from Maggie and rubbed the chips smooth surface with her finger "its so strange, its as if I've seen it before, like in a dream or something."
"Maybe it doesn't plug into anything, maybe there's a code to it." Liz looked at Maggie surprised. Maggie hardly ever came up with anything logical. Even when she did, it usually wasn't relevant or useful. "Maybe it's something the girl said."
"I don't know Mags, she didn't say anything particularly personal. She did know my name, that was sort of odd, but not my full name just Elizabeth." Liz stared at the chip for a while and could only imagine what information was held inside. "Oh well, I better be getting home, Gran will be worried." As Liz began to pocket the chip a crazy thought struck her. The women knew her first name, so why not her full name? Leaning close into the chip she whispered her name "Elizabeth Quincy Frost." The chip quickly began to buzz as it floated out of Liz's hands.
"Oh, dear." Liz gazed at Maggie behind her but could not see her best friend behind those eyes "looks like you were useful for something after all." Quicker than Liz could process Maggie threw a punch and hit Liz hard on the head, Liz collapsed and instinctively curled up.
"Mags," she croaked, Maggie grabbed the chip and kicked Liz in the ribs.
"It's Eva actually, I heard you're family was gullible. But I had to see for myself." Crouching down she held a finger to Liz's lips "oh dear, you didn't actually think we were friends did you?" Liz stared at her and couldn't believe what she was seeing. Maggie. Sweet, bubbly Maggie couldn't possibly hurt her. She heard the women's words echoing in her head "no one you know can be trusted." Liz couldn't seem to get it out of her head as everything went dark.
