Act. 8 Danny and Lorie, Good Old Pals
Clutching onto my keys, I tore myself away from him, knowing that it wouldn't do me any good to stay with him.
It'd only make it that much harder to leave.
I stood and walked to the door, giving a glance back at his sleeping form. Instantly, I felt a pang of regret for leaving him.
He didn't deserve it.
But I was well aware that he also didn't deserve to live with a person as dangerous as I was.
And for the first time in years, I felt my eyes water. Shutting my eyes, I held onto my keys, reminding myself who I was.
And who I forever will be.
Turning away, I left his room, shutting the door behind me before I had any second thoughts. I walked down the steps and as I reached the bottom, I heard a familiar scoff from the side of the room.
"So you're leaving him just like that?" The scent of a freshly lit cigarette reached my nose as I turned slightly.
"It's for his own good," I shot back as Gina grunted in response.
"Yeah, leave him with me and then do something to piss him off first thing in the morning when he awakes. Thanks for the ticking time bomb you left in my guild," she blew out a puff of smoke.
"You should be grateful for having Doug, so you are more than welcome. I'm happy you're appreciating him properly just like he should be," I replied.
"You know he won't listen to me, and especially with this stunt you are pulling. He's only going to rebel more," she sighed as I faced the door again, my back to her.
Giving a nod, I spoke.
"Then use force," I ordered as she smirked.
"I like that answer, hybrid," she let the cigarette drop as she burned it out with her foot.
"Only if necessary," I threatened.
"No promises," she teased as I narrowed my eyes. "You just got to stay alive for him. Aren't you out here looking for Worick and his deaf partner anyways?"
"They aren't the main concern I have right now," I reminded her as she nodded.
"I swear you get called to those government organization meetings far more than I do and I am one of the 'Four Big Fathers'," she said as she eyed the keys around my neck.
"The mafia family that I have concern over is the Corsica Family. Your guild, the Monroe Family, and the Cristiano Family, are the supportive ones of twilights. So much that you've all even accepted an unknown like me, all accept for Corsica. He's after my head and all twilights. I know it," I sighed as I blew out a breath. "I'll be able to go with a lighter feeling today though, knowing Doug is far out of his reach."
"You're always worrying about that boy more than your actual self. He's all you got left and you're all he's got left, and now you're leaving him here. You're crazy," she deadpanned.
"He's yours now so I know you'll make sure to keep him out of the public eye. You will be able to do far more for him than I ever will, so I am eternally in your debt," I gave a nod as I stepped out. "Don't make me regret my decision."
"My guild will do our best to not make you regret your decision, but your decision may bring the regret right to you," she spoke, nodding back at me as I closed the doors behind me.
Raising my chin, I stood tall as the darkness of the early morning fell before me. By the time that I get there, it would be daylight so I shouldn't waste any time. I sprung myself forward, zigzagging through the alleyways.
The sun started to rise up above me and as I pushed off against the side of a building, I landed onto the rooftop, gazing at the sunrise.
I saw the meeting point that I was called to and headed towards my destination again, not stopping until the building stood before my feet.
"Here goes nothing so I better come out alive," I sighed, pushing the doors open and stepping in.
"Y/N! You're here!" I heard a cheery voice call out to me as I faced Loretta.
"Lorie, warm welcomes all around! Of course, wouldn't miss it for anything," I smiled as I embraced the young leader.
"You don't know how much better you make these meetings by coming," she groaned as I laughed.
"I know, they're such a pain to deal with," I agreed as she nodded.
"Especially the Corsicas, wouldn't mind if someone took them out. Always have something against twilights and you," she walked back to the table as I followed her.
"The creature is here," Uranos sneered at me.
"Welcome, welcome, my beautiful," Daniel smiled at me, kissing my hand as I sat down.
"Thanks for the warm acceptance, Danny," I winked at him as we laughed.
We sat through the meeting, talking about different rats in Ergastulum and other boring topics.
Sighing, I clicked my nails against the table and Uranos glared at me.
"Cut it out, you monster!"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know there was a mirror in front of you," I replied, resting my legs up on the table.
"Ooh! That was a good one Y/N!" Daniel laughed, slapping his hand against his leg.
"You agree with this pathetic witch?"
"Hey, you big bully!" I called out to him, a grin on my face. "Don't be mean to my friends just because you aren't as cool as we are!"
"Yeah! What my bestie said!" Daniel joined in, howling with laughter beside me.
"Ugh, you children!" He shouted as Loretta stood.
"Keep your voice down," she commanded, her own voice strict and unwavering.
"You are a child with the-"
I threw a dagger straight at him, landing it directly next to his face in his chair as his eyes widened and he fell silent.
"Did you not hear me?" I asked calmly, despite the anger in my eyes.
"Like a trick like that will scare me," he scoffed, hiding the fear he had on before.
"Well, ya know what we like to say," I turned to Daniel and we both grinned at each other.
"Life's no fun without a good scare!" We sung together, laughing as I sat back down in my seat.
Uranos gripped the chair tightly, his knuckles turning white as I knew he was boiling with a hot temper. The anger he had was ready to blow at any moment.
"Oh, Y/N! I forgot to tell ya! I saw Nicolas and Worick the other day with some chick in their house," Daniel spoke as I turned to him with bewilderment.
"What."
