3: I Screwed Up...... Big Time
I woke the next morning with someone's arm around me. I rolled over and saw Jack. I squirmed out of bed and put on my clothes. Now I knew Jack wasn't straight. That terrified me. I tiptoed downstairs and saw a few stragglers. I grabbed a frying pan and made eggs and bacon. No matter what, I couldn't shake the thought of sleeping with Jack. Jack came down ten minutes later." I smelled food," he told me. I prayed that he didn't remember last night. I shoveled the eggs and bacon onto my plate.
"You like the party?" Jack asked, stealing a strip of bacon.
"Yeah, sure," I answered nervously, swatting away Jack's hand as tried to take more of the bacon,
"You seem uneasy. Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I think I just need some coffee and/or a donut,"
"Let's get outta here then!"
Jack and I walked exited the house and walked a few blocks down to a café. We separately ordered our coffee. I got a hot cocoa/ coffee mix and glazed donut while Jack got an espresso. We sipped our coffee in silence. I broke the silence." We slept together last night!" I exclaimed quiet enough for Jack to hear. He didn't seem surprised." I know!" He replied. I gave him a pissed off stare.
"So are you-?" I asked before he cut me off.
"Gay," He said.
"But you've slept with a ton of girls!"
"I was kinda covering it up"
"O-Kay then...."
I finished my donut and we headed back to Jack's house." You won't tell anyone, right?" I ordered. He shook his head. I said goodbye, hopped in my car and went back to my aunt's house. As soon as I stepped foot in the house, my aunt pelted me with questions." How was your night? Did you meet anyone? You didn't sleep with anyone right?" She spit rapid fire. I had one word replies and I headed back to my room. As soon as I shut and locked the door, I took out my camera.
This camera was special. My father had given it to me before he was shipped overseas and died. I took pictures of important moments like my birthdays or holidays or vacations or firsts. It was like a way my father could see my life. Unsurprisingly, Jack was in most of them. He had been my best friend for years. I sighed as all these memories were behind me.
I got lost in photos and I was almost late to Swim Team. I changed as fast as I could and went out to the pool. Everyone else was doing laps, so I hopped in and started mine. Thankfully, I had been practicing and I didn't almost drown. After doing some exercises, we were told the first swim meet was this weekend. I didn't have much practice but participation was mandatory. I caught Jame's eye and he smiled. After the lecture, James came over to talk to me." I can help you learn to swim better," he offered." Two days, every week, after practice!" I thought about it. It could most definitely help. My swimming skills were sub par and no where near my team's average level. I told I would except it. I gave him my number so we could communicate. As I walked to my car, I had butterflies in my stomach. I had his number.
My first two lessons were pretty good. I would swim and he would tell me what I was doing wrong. By the end of the week, I was good enough to compete in the meet. Almost too quickly, Saturday, the day of the meet, came. I wouldn't swim for a while, so I was watching everyone. The ref would fire a blank and everyone would dive into the water. By far, the best swimmer on my team was James. His strokes were so clean and he made it look easy. After an hour, my heat was next. James must've saw the worried look on my face because came over to me." You'll do great, dude!" He told me, patting me on the back. Finally, I was about to swim. I took my position and waited. The blank was fired and I dove into the water. The water from others sprayed my face but I kept going. As I was racing towards the end, my speed picked up. I launched myself to the wall. The crowd cheered and James gave me a thumbs up and I smiled. The rest of the night was entertaining. I watched my teammates zoom past others. Finally, it was time for the awards. When it was time for the awards for my event, I listened intently. Third place was a skinny kid from an opposing team called the Sharks. Second place was me. I got my medal and stood on the podium. My aunt took a picture with my camera. I then met up with James, who had won a 1st place medal. We took a picture then said goodbye. I looked at my camera as I drove home. It was a good picture of James and I. I sighed. I was a winner for once.
At the next practice, coach scolded us. He said we were good but not enough for the tournament. He made us do extra laps. I was exhausted when practice ended. I remembered today was practice with James. After everyone left, we went back out. He noticed my heavy breathing." Let's not swim today!" He ordered." Let's talk!" I nodded and sat down.
"So, how did you like the competition?" James asked eagerly.
"Fun!" I replied." But not nearly as good as you!"
"Don't flatter me!"
We talked and talked until I had to go home. I said goodbye and headed home. Maybe swim team wasn't so bad.
A/N: I know it is short. It will hopefully be longer next time.
What will happen between Alexander and James?
