First Comes Love, then Marriage, and then.....

It was like a fairytale. A forbidden love, a battle against dark forces, a damsel in distress being rescued by a charming knight, and of course the royal wedding.

In this particular tale, the role of the princess was played by the lovely Satine Kryze, now Satine Kenobi, Duchess of Mandalore. By her side, her rescuer turned husband, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Aside from the groom being kidnapped and replaced with an imposter, and needing to put the two Obi-Wan's through a game show style series of questioning to expose the truth, everything went perfectly for their wedding day. The dress, the music, and of course the moment the couple had always dreamed of: the first kiss.

Obi-Wan couldn't believe it as he sat in the carriage with his new wife. He had his arms around her the whole time, and they spent most of their ride kissing.

"I love you, Obi-Wan." Satine sighed, kissing her husband.

"I love you, my Satine." sighed Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan placed an affectionate hand on his wife's stomach too; he still couldn't believe Satine was already pregnant. They'd talked about starting a family after they got engaged, and let's just say they started the process a little early on. Still, neither of them expected it to happen so soon.

When Satine started feeling nauseous a few weeks ago, she began to suspect it, and the night before the wedding, she'd secretly taken a test. When it came out positive, Satine was beyond excited. She cried so many tears of happiness, and she couldn't wait to tell Obi-Wan; it would be the perfect wedding present for both of them.

"Daddy already loves you too, little one." Obi-Wan said to the miracle of life inside Satine.

"I've dreamed so many years for this moment," said Satine, placing a hand over her husband's. "Are you sure this isn't all just a dream?"

Looking at his wife affectionately, Obi-Wan kissed her once more and said, "If this is a dream, then I never want to wake up."

The newlyweds went to a very lovely place for their honeymoon. They rode on a cruise ship that sailed across a crystal blue sea, and there were lots of dolphins jumping out from the water.

There were all kinds of great activities for couples on the ship too. Movie nights, mixers under the stars on the sky deck, dance classes, and even game nights where couples competed against each other.

For the next two weeks Obi-Wan and Satine had so much fun together, but all the while, neither of them could refrain from the excitement about their soon-to-be baby.

The day the newlyweds finally returned to Mandalore from their honeymoon, Obi-Wan carried Satine in bridal style.

"Here we are at last," smiled Obi-Wan, looking at his wife. "Mrs. Kenobi."

Obi-Wan carried his wife and carefully placed her on the bed, where there was a gift basket left for them with flowers and a pair of teddy bears dressed like a little bride and groom. And there were little flowers made of diapers tied together with headbands the right size for a baby, and a few baby toys too.

"Look at that. We've already got a few supplies for our bundle of joy." Obi-Wan chuckled. He looked at the card and read it. "Hope these help with your future ball of energy. Sincerely, Qui-Gon and family."

"That's very sweet of them." Satine said.

"Master Qui-Gon is also right. We'll be in for a whirlwind when our little one arrives."

Obi-Wan remembered his days raising a child. Anakin, he was already close to his tween years when Obi-Wan became his new guardian, but nevertheless a challenge. Fatherhood was not exactly covered in Obi-Wan's Jedi training, and figuring it out on his own was far from easy.

Once Anakin stopped moping around as much from missing his mom and dad (though he didn't know Qui-Gon was his dad at the time), he proved to be a little bit of a troublemaker when he discovered what it felt like to be free.

Obi-Wan lost count quickly of how many times he had to shout for Anakin not to be running in the apartment and the halls, jumping on the couch or the bed, swinging on the Temple tree, or playing with the droids. And on rainy days, Anakin always eagerly ran out to enjoy the water and splash in the puddles, only to catch a cold later.

It was at least a good thing Anakin didn't get his magical powers back then, or Obi-Wan might've needed to learn to battle man-eating plants or gotten stuck hanging from a giant tree or something every time the boy got sick or emotionally unstable.

After seeing the nightmare that the Temple became when Gabby got a cold or had an emotional tantrum when she was smaller, it was definitely a good thing. When she came around, Obi-Wan got at least a little bit of experience taking care of a baby.

Although Gabby was an adorable baby, she was also a lot of hard work. No matter who babysat her when she was that little, it was a workout. She would cry in the middle of the night, needing to be fed, changed, or rocked. It didn't help either that Gabby seemed to like grabbing Obi-Wan's hair and beard sometimes before he'd trimmed his hair.

What is it with babies and yanking hair? Obi-Wan couldn't help wondering.

When Gabby started crawling, things really got crazy. Even when she wasn't using magic, she somehow managed to get herself into trouble when she found ways to escape her playpen. If Anakin wouldn't be the death of Obi-Wan, he was pretty sure Gabby might be.

"Well, at least you likely won't have magical powers to worry about," said Obi-Wan to his wife's stomach.

For a while, Satine and Obi-Wan debated on names for the new baby. If they had a boy, they would name him Benjamin. But, if it was a girl, Satine was insistent they name her Olivia, after Satine's late mother.

Months later.....

This was it. The moment of truth. Two weeks after the due date, two weeks of suspense to when the new baby would finally want to come into the world, and now Satine was finally in labor.

Sixteen hours, and still no baby, but plenty of contractions.

Obi-Wan held Satine's hand as she squeezed it.... hard, and screamed.

"Push!" said the doctor.

"You're almost there, Satine!" Obi-Wan winced.

Satine may have been the one giving birth, but Obi-Wan was pretty sure he was going to need a doctor once this baby was out. If Satine squeezed any harder, she would probably break her husband's hand. Obi-Wan was normally good at hiding when he was nervous, hurt, or angry, but even he had his limits.

"Again!"

Satine started to push again, but accidentally elbowed Obi-Wan in the stomach, and the poor Jedi lost his balance and fell to the floor.

"Ouch!"

"Are you okay?" Satine asked, wincing as she felt another contraction.

Obi-Wan groaned as he got up. "I think I'm going to need a doctor when this is over."

"I see something," said the doctor. "Uh oh."

"What do you mean, 'uh-oh'?!" Satine panicked.

"Is the baby okay?" Obi-Wan asked despite the pain in his hand.... and pretty much his entire body after that fall.

"The baby's fine, but they're in a more difficult position. You're going to have to push even harder now, Duchess."

So, Satine did start pushing harder.

"Duchess, you'll have to push even harder. Nothing's happening."

"I can't! I can't push anymore!" Satine cried.

"Don't say that, love." Obi-Wan said. "You're almost there. We're so close to being parents, you've come too far to quit now."

Obi-Wan kissed his wife's cheek and started hugging her to keep her calm a little longer. Satine took some deep breaths, and on three, she began pushing again with all her might. Obi-Wan looked down and saw something happening.

"The baby's upside down, but they're coming! They're coming!" Obi-Wan said in anticipation.

Satine kept going and sighed a huge breath of relief when she heard the sound of a newborn baby crying its first cry. And the couple looked up happily to see the doctor holding their baby in a soft towel.

"Congratulations, Duchess Satine. You've just given birth to a healthy baby girl." smiled the doctor.

Satine cried with so much happiness as she finally got her first glimpse of her baby.

"Oh, she's perfect!" Satine cried happily.

Obi-Wan was crying too. He couldn't believe how beautifully perfect his daughter was. It felt like an eternity before the nurses finally came back after placing the baby girl in a diaper and wrapping her up in a nice soft blanket.

Satine immediately showered her baby with kisses the moment she was in her arms.

"Eighteen hours of labor...." sighed Satine. "And here you are at last.... my Olivia."

Olivia just cried again, her mother gently rocking her.

"I know. You're tired too, aren't you?" she cooed.

Obi-Wan planted a gentle kiss on Olivia's little head and said, "Hello there, little one."

The baby seemed to calm down hearing her father's voice.

"Daddy is very happy to finally meet you."

The couple was reluctant to let the baby go away with the nurses to be checked out, but when they finally got to be with her again, Obi-Wan got to hold her first.

There was no one word to describe how Obi-Wan was feeling as he held his daughter. His daughter. Was this how Anakin felt when he held Gabby for the first time? Obi-Wan wondered. It felt so.... so wonderful, magical, like something out of a dream. It felt like he'd just received a gift he didn't realize he needed in his life until he finally had it.

Obi-Wan gently stroked a little tuft of Olivia's hair, which was auburn like his. And she had the same beautiful blue eyes as her mommy. Little Olivia yawned and sleepily looked up at her father, sticking out her little tongue every now and then, which Obi-Wan couldn't help finding the most adorable thing he'd ever seen.

"I'll take good care of you, my little princess." Obi-Wan smiled, kissing Olivia's head. "I promise."

Obi-Wan had everything that seven years ago, he wouldn't have imagined wanting. He had a beautiful new home, a wonderful bride, he married into a very wealthy family, and he had an adorable little baby of his own laying in his arms, who may someday take after her father in becoming a powerful Jedi.

But as wonderful as all that was, Obi-Wan was in for the biggest challenge of his life, and it wasn't being the new duke of Mandalore now that he and Satine were married. For the second time in his life, but the first time from birth, he now had a full-time job in the most challenging and perhaps scariest career there was in any galaxy: Parenthood.
