Kendra burst through the doors of the main hall.
She looked around to see many people staring at the first years around her. Even though she was shaking, she felt confident.
I have to get into Hufflepuff. I just have to. She thought to herself. Her mother and father were Hufflepuffs and if she didn't get in Hufflepuff they would be furious with her.
She took a deep breath and calmed herself. It's okay. She told herself. She along with the rest of the first years were at the front of the hall.
The large, hairy man that led them from the train to Hogwarts was behind them with McGonagall in front. "Stop please." She said as she was smiling warmly. "Right here." She pointed to the steps that led to a chair.
"When I say you'r name, you will come forward," She said smiling at Marge. "And be sorted into you'r Hogwarts houses." She smiled towards Kendra this time.
Suddenly a man with white hair and a long beard stepped out of the back of a door.
"Welcome!" he said in a calm voice. "Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. First off, we have another new professor. His name is Rowan Archwood. He will be taking the place of defense against the dark arts."
Everybody stared at a tall and skinny man with brown hair. He was wearing a blue suit with a brown case next to him. He stood up and smiled at the students. He sat back down when Dumbledore continued talking.
"We will start off the night with the sorting." He gestured to McGonagall who reluctantly took his place.
"Kayten Olivia, come up." She said as Olivia walked up and sat on the velvet stool.
Everybody went silent except for two ginger haired boys in what looked like their second year at Hogwarts.
Olivia sat still as the hat was placed upon her head. "Cunning," The old hat said is a mumble. as Olivia jumped a little. "Noble, but not noble enough. Oh, very kind and thoughtful but gets in trouble. Ambitious too and very Resourceful."
The sorting hat paused for a moment before making his final decision. "Slytherin!"
The Slytherin table exploded with cheers.
Olivia gave a frightful look at Kendra and ran towards the Slytherins.
Kendra looked at her and held up a thumbs up although she was scared as well.
"Boardman Kendra."
Kendra started shaking as she walked up the stairs.
She got to the stool and sat on it.
The old hat was place on her head.
"Kendra," She jumped at this. "Very kind at the heart. Would give anything to help a friend but very mischievous. Uses resources around you. Clever as well and a hard worker." The hat paused as if he was taking a deep breath.
Hufflepuff, where they are just and loyal. Those patient Hufflepuffs are true and unafraid of toil. Kendra thought right before the hat made it's decision.
It was either Hufflepuff or Slytherin.
"Hufflepuff!" The hat yelled.
A wave of relief swept over Kendra. She jumped out of the stool (almost knocking it over) and ran towards the cheering crowd of Hufflepuffs.
She landed on a seat to be crowded by several Hufflepuffs.
Kendra was happy with the decision but the cheers were interrupted. "McGonagall Marge."
Kendra was frozen. She didn't know what to do.
Marge had been her best friend for a long time but her grandmother wanted her to be sorted into Gryffindor.
Kendra couldn't hear anything the sorting hat said because the Hufflepuffs surrounding her were talking.
The silence was broken by somebody's shouts.
Everybody froze and the hat screamed her house; "Hufflepuff!".
After that everything went silent. The screaming was gone. Kendra stood up along with several more Hufflepuffs.
All she could see was Marge on the ground. Kendra waved her hands furiously for Marge to get up but she didn't.
"Marge!" Kendra yelled frantically as she was getting pushed down by Hufflepuffs trying to see. The screaming started again and this time everybody was running out of the great hall except Kendra.
Kendra started running the opposite way to find Marge on the floor limping towards her.
"Marge! What happened?" She yelled over the noise.
Marge pulled her sleeve up to reveal her arm which was bleeding massively. "Kendra, it was an attack." She cried.
Kendra looked at Marge. "Death eaters? Who was it?"
"I don't know Kendra but I think I saw your dad"
Panic swept over her. Her father, the one who she loved, the same man who loved Hogwarts attacked them? But how?
Kendra stood up and pulled Marge to her feet as well. "Are you sure it was my dad?"
Marge looked away and more screaming came. Windows burst and death eaters swarmed in.
One of the death eaters was Nicholas. He made a swift landing next to Kendra. "I'm so sorry." He said. "Crucio!" He shouted.
Pain reared through Kendra. She heard Marge screaming or was it Marge?
Kendra shook violently and everything went blurry.
"Daddy!" Kendra screamed without thinking. "Daddy! Help!" She heard more screaming but this time is was loud. It was a man screaming.
Her whole body shook with anguish. "Daddy!" Kendra screamed even louder than before. "Save me! Help me!" Kendra repeated louder and louder until she realized it was her dad that was torturing her.
Kendra would never let this happen to her. She tried to stop the pain but couldn't. She didn't have enough strength to yell or talk.
All she could do was watch as the death eaters watched Nicholas. Some of them were
high-fiving him while others were clapping.
Kendra noticed one boy in the group with blonde hair. He was staring at Kendra with disgust. "Help me." She mustered to say as she slowly turned her head to Nicholas.
He was turned away, laughing. When he turned to Kendra he saw the hate in her eyes. He started talking but Kendra couldn't understand what he way saying. Some of the death eaters nodded and the pain stopped.
Kendra was left laying in the great hall. She closed her eyes and it felt good. She opened them to find herself in the hospital wing of Hogwarts (she had been there a year before she was old enough to go to Hogwarts because her parents wanted to talk to Madam Pomfrey).
Marge was sitting next to her in a white plastic chair reading a book with a sling on her arm.
Before Kendra could say anything Marge made a small squeak about her book. She peered at Kendra and looked back down at her book.
"Good morning" Kendra said in a calm voice. Marge looked at her. "Your awake!" She flung her book aside and hugged Kendra. "Oh, it's so good to see you alive."
Shock pressed on Kendra. "Alive? Why wouldn't I be?" Marge tilted her head and looked at her confused.
"I guess you really don't remember anything do you?"
Kendra shook her head. "So what happened?"
"Your dad and a bunch of death eaters came to attack you to prove that your dad was death eater worthy. After he put you under the cruciatus curse he ordered a werewolf to bite you. I don't know if your a werewolf now but you could have died in the process."
Kendra was taken aback. She couldn't believe her father would do that.
"Also your dad is in Azkaban."
Kendra gasped. "Azkaban? They can't do that! That's my dad!"
"Well, they can and your going to court to put him there."
On Kendra's first day at Hogwarts her father was put in Azkaban. She couldn't believe what had happened.
