Space Boy

{Requested}

The sound of crickets chirping outside kept me wide awake while I tried to sleep, although my body ached for rest, my mind was racing. A part of me wanted to sleep, but my conscious told me to explore outside. I don't know why I was having so much trouble with falling asleep, I had been productive all day, I figured by now that I would've fallen asleep.

I rolled to the other side of my bed and checked my phone that was charging on the nightstand, I turned it on and squinted when I was met with its blinding light.

12:30

I turned my phone off and rolled onto my back, closing my eyes once more.I tried to will myself to sleep but I ended up getting up and out of bed anyways.

I slid my sneakers on and grabbed a sweater, my pajamas consisting of an old orange camp shirt I had gotten two years ago and some black exercising shorts that I use more for sleeping than actually working out. Grabbing my phone off the nightstand, I shoved it in my pocket and snuck out of my room as quietly as I could.

I don't know why but something inside me told me to go outside, a nagging feeling that felt as if I didn't listen, I would suffer the consequences of getting a migraine. So I listened and snuck out the front door of the house without waking my family.

I walked out to the grassy front yard and looked up at the midnight sky, the stars never seemed to dim as they twinkled brightly down at me. I saw the faint colors of the milky way in the sky, a trail of fuchsia and violet mixed in with deep royal blue. Yet the persistent feeling wouldn't go away.

I continued my way across the yard and past the white picket fence and onto the gravel road, the ground crunching beneath my sneakers. I continued to walk until I reached the barn where all our farm animals quietly grazed on their hay. I squeezed in between the two big doors and was met with a soft snort of one of the horses, I walked up to one of the stables and saw the grey gelding look at we with wide marble-like eyes and perked up ears, hay and shavings adorning his thick white mane. Snickering softly at the newfound visitor at such a late time at night.

I smiled softly and continued my way through the barn, passing the plump pigs and a young heifer with its mother which shared a stall. I made it to the end of the structure and slid through the gate into the pasture of dewy grass and daisies.

I didn't stop walking, my feet carried me where my mind told them to go. I was curious to why I felt this, perhaps it was an energy that drew me in. Was I going to get abducted by aliens? Maybe, that would've been a story worth telling rather than the one I'm living through now. My mind was in a haze, as if it was all fogged up in a thick, mind-controlling mist.

I stopped suddenly, without being aware.

I was in the middle of the endless pasture, miles of grass around me. I blinked put of my daze and gazed around, perplexed as to what brought me out here or why it happened.

The atmosphere was still, not a breeze to drift the blades of grass, emptiness was heavily bestowed here. A feeling I had never endured settled at the pit of my stomach.

      It was... peaceful.

I took advantage of this moment to relax, to enjoy the time spent here in the present.

Everything was so quiet. Not even the crickets chirped or the owls sang their night song.

The sky only seemed to get brighter by the stars awakening.

I looked up and saw a big bright orb enter the atmosphere.

I knew it wasn't a meteor or a comet because of its large size, the ground began to rumble beneath my feet as the object neared. It seemed to get slower the closer it got to the surface.

My normal self would've been praying, screaming, running away, probably even crying in this situation. But I was surprisingly tranquil as if I wasn't about to get murdered (possibly). The winds picked up and thrashed my hair in my face, a blinding light from the sky shone down on me.

I squinted my eyes and covered my ears as a loud rumble was heard. The whirring of metal, the sound of thrusters easing a landing, kind of like a jet. There was a very loud thump less than half a mile away from me, I looked up and saw an over sized, metallic, red cat thing. I was shocked beyond belief I wasn't able to move, let alone be aware if I was breathing or not.

The mighty machine leaned down and it's 'mouth', what I assume, opened. A small human-like figure walking out wearing some type of futuristic space armor.

If only I had a weapon to defend myself with.

I crouched down to a point they wouldn't be able to see me, the knee-high grass covering my body. I began to crawl closer to investigate.

They sat in the grass and began to pick up the daisies.

I was unable to identify if they were an alien or not because of the helmet they wore, which matched their red space suit.

After crawling a certain distance closer, I was able to hear a distinct radio chatter from them. It was a little muffled and static but I was able to make out the words "Voltron" or "Galra". I had no clue which of those were.

They set their picked flowers aside and their hands went up to their helmet. My breath hitched upon them sliding it off, it was a human boy who looked one or two years older than me.

"How the hell does he pilot that thing?" I whispered a little too loudly. His head perked up and I covered my mouth. He stood up which let me get a somewhat better view of him, shoulder length messy black hair, pale skin, and masculine facial structure.

"Who's there?" He called out, his voice was a little deep, but not too deep, tone very demanding nonetheless. I kept my mouth sealed and watched as something appeared in his hand which then turned into a sword. What kind of sorcery was this?

I began to crawl backwards slowly, pulling my hood on to hopefully blend in better. Surely my knees would be sore the next day from crawling, let alone being scratched up from wearing shorts.

He looked around and began to walk in my direction, my heart began to race and my adrenaline began to kick in.

This guy was going to murder me, I would never get the chance to say 'I love you' to my family, this was it. Goodbye cruel world, it was a nice life.

He got closer and closer until his eyes finally met mine for a brief moment and I quickly spun around, jumped to my feet, and booked it.

I began to run despite the soreness of my knees, I started hysterically screaming "Stranger Danger 911!" (Something my mom taught me in case of an emergency.) Repeatedly, which was kind of useless since we were in the middle of a pasture away from civilization.

I heard rushed footsteps behind me yet I never faltered, this encouraged me to scream louder and push myself to run harder.

"Stop! Wait! I'm not gonna!-OOF!" I felt his upper body impact my back, bringing us both to the ground. I thrashed and tried to free myself but was unable when I felt my hips straddled. I turned my head to the side. I let out a string of curses I never knew was in me.

I saw the swords tip drive into the earth a few centimeters away from my nose, making me freeze and hold back a scream. I couldn't see the face of my captor since he was sitting on my back, holding my hands down.

"Now, let me repeat myself." He was slightly out of breath despite me practically gasping like a fish without water. Despite our tumble, my hood stayed on and he wasn't able to see my face, which was good so he wasn't able to see how truly terrified I was at the moment (even though my screaming and cursing gave it all away).

"Who. Are. You?" He asked and I stayed quiet until I remembered a self defense trick my friend taught me back in middle school. I whispered quietly, making him tilt his head. I whispered again which made him bring his head closer to hear me.

Bingo.

I threw my head back until the back of my head connected to the side of his face. I immediately regretted it as a pang of dizziness and pain rang up and down my body. He groaned out in pain, but crawled off of me nonetheless.

I stumbled to my feet and cradled my head, pulling his sword out of the ground, pointing it at him.

"Don't underestimate me, you...you coward!" I stumbled slightly and ended up using the sword to support my weight on while I regained my consciousness. The space boy continued to groan and sit up, glaring up at me while massaging his temple.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" He asked and I brought the sword up again.

"What's wrong with me? More like what's wrong with you?" I countered, wincing slightly as a throb sent a wave of pain in my head.

"Nothing's wrong with me considering that I don't head butt a stranger who only wants a simple answer." He fired.

"Well nothing's wrong with me either considering that I don't sit inside a robot cat thing and chase people like a mad man." I let out a short breath of frustration. The pain slowly fading.

         "Touché..."

He scowled up at me to which I returned with a glare, turning around and walking away with his sword in my hand.

"Where do you think you're going?" He called out.

"Home... I'm taking this as a souvenir of when I met a crazy person that escaped the mental institute a few miles away." I replied bluntly.

"How do I know you aren't one of those crazy people?"

I stopped and merely glanced back at him with one of those 'you really want me to answer that.' Look. Resting my hand over my jut out hip in a sassy manner.

He seemed to get the message as he scowled once more and looked away, I smirked and continued to walk away.

I heard him get up and jog after me, both my hands gripping the handle tightly incase he pulled a quick one on me.

"Okay, I'm sorry if I scared you alright? Can I have my sword back?" He asked insincerely.

"I think you could be more sincere than that, space boy~." I teased, I watched as his face turned red in anger and embarrassment.

I decided to give this guy a hard time for scaring the living daylights out of me, though he tried to get back at me with that sassy mouth of his, I couldn't help but feel a little bad for him.

I heard him sigh and I turned around to continue my way home, the sword dragging slightly since it was a little heavy to carry with one arm.

"Please?" He asked once more and I paused, looking back at him.

"Fine." I tossed him the weapon, He caught it with ease and it dissolved as if he told it to telepathically, metaphorically speaking.

"And I have a name you know? You don't have to call me space boy." He muttered the last part quietly, but not quiet enough for me not to hear.

"Well you're wearing a space suit, and you came out of the skies in a giant robot cat-"

         "Lion."

"Same difference." He crossed his arms and his face contorted into one of annoyance.

"So what did you come to Earth for? I mean, you are human right? Did you come from a different solar system, are you gonna abduct me to your planet so the aliens can conduct experiments on me?" I asked which made the corner of his lips curl up ever so slightly. Wow, he smiles.

"I am human, and I'm from Earth. No I'm not gonna abduct you, besides I'm pretty sure the aliens wouldn't even want to look at you." A mischievous glint flashed in those metallic stormy eyes of his.

I let out a short laugh.

"I'm pretty sure you're saying that out of experience." I moved a strand of hair out of my face and smugly smirked. Rolled his eyes and frowned.

"Anyways, where did you come from? Why are you specifically...here?" I asked, tilting my head slightly.

"I came from, well, space. I came here because my house is over there." He pointed to where my house was over the hill, my brows knitted together in confusion.

"That's where my house is." I pointed out, he shook his head.

"No, that's my-" He paused and realization dawned on him.

"How long have you lived there?" He asked.

"Two years, we were told that the place was abandoned, so my family bought it." I answered bluntly.

His hand went to his hair, raking through it as his mind pondered. Some sort of inner conflict never impeding.

"I've really been gone for that long..." His voice was filled with melancholy, I raised a brow.

He sat down on the grass and rested his elbows on his knees, his palms on the sides of his face. The moonlight shone down on him which made the creases of scars on his face visible. His adams apple bobbed once, his expression one of sorrow, a nonexistent force crashing down on him.

I felt sympathy for him even though I didn't know what he was talking about, so I let myself sink down so I was at his level, my hands neatly folded on my lap.

His eyes trailed up to me, they were glossy yet his lips twitched into a soft smile, I had no idea what he was making a big deal about, but I figured it must've been something that was super important to him.

"After two years of being in space, I'm finally here on Earth in one piece. We did it." He spoke softly to himself.

I quirked a brow and gazed down at him. A cold breeze drifted the blades of grass and tossed my hair. His eyes flickered to the grass, droplets of tears fell onto his lap.

I stood there, kinda uncomfortable, a little confused, a bit sympathetic, and a little hungry. Bad timing for the last one.

I walked forward and crouched down next to him, setting my hand on the back of his space suit, rotating in a counter clockwise motion.

"There, there... everything is going to be...okay?" I patted his back and he looked up at me with the most confused expression.

"What are you trying to do?" He asked, a strand of his black hair fell to his pale face.

"I don't even know anymore." I recoiled my hand and looked away, my face burning with embarrassment.

   I'm an idiot.

"Can...Can you keep doing it? It kinda made me feel a little better..." He asked shyly.

I gazed at him and realized he was like a lost little kid, he was weak, scared. Whatever he went through must have been traumatic.

I scooted closer and wrapped my arm around him, which was a little difficult because of the shoulder pads of his uniform. I absentmindedly began to rotate my hand on his back again.

He let out a shaky breath, another tear rolled down his cheek.

A couple minutes had gone by and I began to feel more comfortable, I felt his head drop onto my shoulder, his breathing was slow. I figured that he had fallen asleep.

I began to contemplate on what I'd do with him, drag him to my house?put him back in his Lion, or leave him here? To be honest, I didn't think I could carry him, especially with the space suit weighing him down.

I sighed softly and looked up at the stars in the sky.

What did I get myself into?

He stirred slightly, readjusting his head on my shoulder. He spoke up after minutes of convincing me that he had fallen alseep.

"My name is Keith, I'm a Paladin of Voltron."

A/n: wowee, I'm super sorry if this was a bad chapter, I have been super booked with end of the school year parties, visiting family out of the country, and my charger breaking so updating was a lot harder 😅. ~Max
