Chapter 33

Fitz landed on the ground of the troll castle with a small thud. A bunch of other sirens landed next to him their knives and swords up.  After finishing cutting a hole through the roof using the taser, Cheshire jumped to the ground and landed with all her hands.

"Good job," she teased Fitz, before pulling silver scimitars from her sheath.

Fitz hissed at her, "Oh god, we are going to die because of you."

"Nice pep talk!"

He sighed and motioned for the rest of the crew to follow him as they walked down what seemed to be a place where art was kept. Cheshire glanced at Fitz and raised an eyebrow, watching his stealthy performance.

So far everything was going great. Fitz could levitate, which made it so much more easier for them to complete their job. He also had the best hearing, which was great for assassination missions, because sirens were basically deaf when it came to specifying noises.

"Three guards!" one siren called out to Fitz and Cheshire.

Fitz grabbed two arrows from his quiver. He summersaulted and shot two of the guards, killing them both in one swift motion.

The other troll guard was either afraid or had a horrible headache, which made it easy for Cheshire to sneak up behind him and peck a small kiss on his check. Then she the cheeky Siren slashed her scimitars across his neck.

Blood splattered against her midnight blue clothing and she winced but was still able to shake out her scimitars and stare at Fitz, awaiting the next command.

"Savage!" he muttered, before following the other sirens, into a blank room.

"Good to see you Fitz!" a voice behind them greeted and Cheshire turned around to see a woman in a beautiful pink dress with pink makeup and jewelry. But her gaze was determined and fierce it made Cheshire step back.

Oralie the Councillor stepped toward them cautiously and grasped her melder. She aimed the weapon towards Cheshire and then to Fitz, and then back at Cheshire.

Suddenly, with a huge-but-graceful leap in the air, Cheshire cut the chandelier from the ceiling and watched as it shattered across the floor, making everyone jump back.

Then, a goblin behind her pressed a dagger against her head.

"FINE, WE SURRENDER!" Fitz yelled after what seemed like an eternity of silence and weapon pointing.

Oralie pushed a strand of her hair from her weary and tired face and absentmindedly traced the long scar she wore across her eye. It was a mystery how she could still see.

"I'm still healing from your last attack, but you need to know that if you surrender, you will face the Council, the Black Swan, and your family!" she managed to gasp out.

Fitz shrugged. "Ok? You seriously believe that the Sirens aren't stronger than ALL OF YOU combined? We don't care if the Council and the Black Swan try to defeat us. BECAUSE THEY CAN'T!"

The other Sirens started cheering and chanting, "SIRENS ARE STRONGER! SIRENS ARE STRONGER! SIRENS ARE STRONGER!"

Oralie glanced behind herself and she seemed unsure of something. But Fitz didn't have the time or patience to understand why.

But then Oralie looked up with defiance burning like fire in her glistening eyes.

She spoke, her words loud and clear, "Fine. Be that way. But know that after this is over, you'll regret your actions sooner or later."

Cheshire scoffed and retorted, "Yeah, most likely LATER."

And then Oralie held up her pathfinder, and vanished in the blink of an eye.
