Chapter 10: Class Rep and the Jon Snow
"Wake up you two, I have to get to school earlier than normal this morning," dad said as he walked into my room. Hitoshi and I groaned in response.
"Come on you two. I have a meeting this morning with the teachers and Nezu, about increasing security at the school now that it's out that All Might is teaching at UA high," he continues. Hitoshi and I both lift our heads up and look over at the clock to see that it is 5:30 am. We both laid our heads back down.
"It's too early for this dad. Why do we have to get up now," I question.
"Because if you want a ride to school so I can be on time for my meeting. We have to leave in the next 30 minutes. I need to get there before the reporters start showing up especially with you two so I can keep you two out of the spotlight as being my kids," he explains.
"Sir can't we just take the train to school and wake up at our normal time," Hitoshi mumbled.
"No you can't wake up at your normal time, you two need to be at school a bit earlier than normal. There's going to be plenty of reporters at the school and they will be blocking the entrance of the gate," he explained, and both of us started groaning in annoyance.
Dad sighed, "Fine then you two are on your own and if you are late and I am called into the office there would be hell to pay".
He then glared at the two of us to make his point.
"Yes dad," "Yes papa Zawa," Hitoshi and I said at the same time. I moved to change my alarm for 6:00 am so we can get up and get ready with time to stop before the station to pick up breakfast while we wait for the train. We heard as dad opened the door to leave shortly before my alarm went off. Hitoshi and I both groaned in annoyance and started flopping on the bed.
"Can't we have just more than one normal day of high school," I asked.
"We go to UA. Be thankful we had at least one normal day," Hitoshi replies. We both got up and made our way to the bathrooms we use to get ready for the day. Thankfully I have my routine pretty down packed and finished in about 20 minutes. As I walked out Hito was coming out of dad's room. We really need a bigger house.
"Are you about ready," I questioned.
"Yeah, I just need to get my school bag and shoes on. Do you think it will be a big pain to get into school like Zawa said," he questioned.
"Maybe. It's about All Might remember, they are going to be all over the school. It's just a matter of how many and from each station. They are going to want coverage, and they aren't afraid to push buttons to get it," I explained. He sighed.
"This is going to be a pain," he said. I nodded my head in agreement.
"But we can stop on the way and get something from the store up the street on the way in. I know I need some form of caffeine this morning. Even if it's just a Coca-Cola. We can get a sausage and egg sandwich too to eat on the way," I offer.
He nods and walks to the sofa to grab his bag and mine. We both sigh, place our shoes on at the front door, and walk to the store. I grab like I wanted a Coca-Cola while Hitoshi grabs a coffee and we both grab a sausage and egg muffin and check out. As we walk and eat we discuss what class was like yesterday and that while the beginning part of our day sucked we will try to make the most of it. We planned to stay late after class today and train, pending on what dad has planned for us. When we reached the station the train was just stopping to let people off before letting on the new riders. We look around the train and see that we are the only UA students this morning at 7:00 in the morning. If there is not one at the school I am going to kill my dad.
After a short 15 minute ride on the train we got off at our stop and still saw no one from UA at the station. As we exited the station we saw a few vans going into the direction of UA. Damn it! He was right!
"He's going to be unbearable isn't he," Hito asked.
"That is a very rational assumption. That is correct," I inform him. He sighs for the 100th time this morning in annoyance.
"Fine, let's get it over with," he tells me. We both walk to the gates of UA and see a bunch of reporters lined up. Thankfully we aren't the only students here, but not enough of them to deter any of them from stopping Hito and myself.
This is gonna suck! We both thought in unison. We both took a deep breath in and let it out before walking towards the gate so we could get into the building. I gripped onto Hito's left hand with my right as we started walking to the gate.
Sadly we were stopped about 5 feet from the entrance.
"Hello, I'm Sarah with Channel 6. Can you two tell me what it's like being able to work with All Might," a blonde reporter dressed in a gray and white pinstripe jumpsuit asked us.
"It's a dream, but we really need t-," I start speaking before she cuts me off.
"Are you two both his students? How is he as a teacher," she continues.
"I'm sorry but we really need to get going. We have morning training to get to before classes start," Hitoshi informs her gently before trying to move past her. She cuts off his path holding the microphone near him hoping for an answer to her question. We try to walk past her again and she cuts us off for a third time.
"Ma'am, We really need to get past, can you please let us get in," I question, taking a step back to give me some space between us.
"I just need a few answers and you can go on your way," she tells us, walking closer to me and shoving the mic in my face. I look over at Hitoshi and he looks as uncomfortable as I am.
"Look, we need to get past to go to training before classes start. Please move," I inform her again and attempt to walk around her holding tighter onto Hito's hand. She cuts us off again. This time I move to walk around and when she cuts me off I phase Hitoshi and myself past her. Then we walk in through the gates stopping her from following us in. Yes, I know not to use my quirk like that, but she wasn't going to let us pass, and I can deal with the punishment later.
"Uzumaki," I hear a voice call out angrily. Or I can deal with it now.
"Yes sir," I questioned looking over at Vlad who was leaning against the backside of the UA wall.
"You used your quirk and you know as a student in the hero course that is not legal," he told me.
"Yeah, I did and I do know. However she cut off Hitoshi and myself from entering the gates of UA four times and kept getting closer to us despite me backing up to make space. I didn't feel safe, and I feared for my friend's safety," I informed him.
"Doesn't matter. You broke the rules. I should have you expelled for this," he tells me.
"Yo, yo, yo. Vlad, what seems to be going on," I heard the voice of Present Mic (Uncle Hiza).
"This student broke the law about using her quirks in public. She should be expelled," he explains.
"What? Uzumaki, Shinso. What happened," Mic questioned.
"Shinso and I were trying to walk into school and this reporter stopped us. We tried to walk past her four times but she wouldn't let us pass. So I phased through her. We even tried to tell her that we needed to get to class nicely, but she wouldn't take no for an answer and kept blocking our path. I only phased through her because I didn't feel safe and I was worried about Shinso. Had I known that Mr. King was standing there I would have made more of an effort to call for assistance. However I wasn't aware he was there, nor did he come to assist Shinso, myself, or any other student who was trying to get past," I informed Mic.
"The kiddo has a point, Vlad. I'll take them up to Nezu and let him handle it. If that's okay with you," Mic questioned.
"That's fine. I know he'll throw the book at her for sure. No student, no matter who their parents are, is allowed to use their quirks like that in public without punishment," he said glaring at me.
"I agree, but to avoid it looking like you did it out of spite, I think Nezu would be the better option for this don't you think," Mic questions. Vlad nods and lets us go with Mic. When we are a good distance away Mic sighs.
"Kiddo, you know better than that," he tells me disappointedly. I'm still holding on to Hitoshi's hand.
"I know, but I didn't like how she kept blocking me and Hito to get in. Plus if Vlad was there why didn't he help out," I question, "It's like he was setting everyone up to fail knowing how reporters are and that none of the freshmen have ever had to deal with them," I inform Mic.
"Look kiddo, I get it and I agree with you he should have stepped in, but you shouldn't have used your quirk. Your dad isn't going to be too happy with you, or Vlad for that matter," he tells me.
"I know," I say, "Who do you think dad will be mad at the most"?
"Oh Vlad for sure. You aren't going to get into too much trouble. Maybe just stuck at home for a few days," Mic tells me with a shrug.
"That's the worst," I tell him as we walk to Nezu's office.
"Alright here we are. Let's go in and tell him the situation," Mic says before knocking on the door.
"Come in," Nezu calls out. As we enter we see Nezu at his desk and my dad sitting in one of the chairs in front of the desk.
"Ah, Kairi come in, come in. Good Morning Shinso. How is UA treating you," Nezu says with a smile. After we are in the room Mic closes the door behind us.
"It's going really well, though it's only my second day here," Hitoshi tells him while rubbing the back of his neck.
"Good! That's wonderful news to hear! I'm glad you are enjoying your time here. Now what seems to be going on," Nezu continues.
"Vlad caught Kairi using her quirk to get past the reporters," Mic explains. My dad's eyes land on me with a glare. I would be dead now if looks could kill.
"Kairi," he says angrily.
"It's not entirely my fault, but I can accept some of the blame in this. See Hitoshi and I were trying to walk into school and this reporter from channel 6 stopped us. We tried to walk past her but she wouldn't let us pass. We both even tried to tell her that we needed to get to class nicely, but she wouldn't take no for an answer and kept blocking our path. I only phased through her because I didn't feel safe and I was worried about Shinso. I kept making space between us and she kept coming closer and putting the mic in my face. Had I known that Vlad was standing there listening to everything I would have made a louder effort to call for assistance. However I wasn't aware he was there, nor did he come to assist Hitoshi, myself, or any other student who was trying to get past the crowd of reporters," I explained calmly.
"Well Kairi, I know you are well aware about the laws surrounding the quirks. However, given your story and what I saw while you were entering the school I have decided that Shota will decide your punishment when you all get home," Nezu tells me with a smile.
"No school punishment," I question.
"Nope. I saw you trying to get past the reporter, and I saw Vlad there behind the wall not assisting you or the others. I don't feel like I should punish you when you tried the correct paths to get away, but was still not able to. While it wasn't life or death, it can be threatening to not be able to get past someone and feel cornered especially with your past. As long as you promise not to do it again, I can chalk this up to a learning experience," Nezu says, still smiling.
"Thank you Principal Nezu. I promise I won't do that again," I say thankfully bowing.
"Shota, Hizashi can you two please go down there to assist the other students with getting into our halls safely. Kairi and Hitoshi, you two can make your way into your classes and if Vlad asks I gave Kairi after school detention and she's doing extra work for the rest of the week under my supervision," Nezu informs everyone. We all exited the room and Hitoshi let go of my hand before letting me know he was going to his class and he will meet up with me later.
"Kairi, we will talk when I get home. While you did wrong, you weren't entirely incorrect with why you did it. Go get to class while I try to help the rest get in," he explains. I nod letting him know I heard and make my way to the classroom. When I arrived at the classroom only Momo and Shoto were inside.
"Are you okay? I saw you getting into trouble with Vlad earlier," Shoto questions as I sit down.
"Yeah, I'm okay. Not really in trouble. Just Vlad being Professor Snape to my being Harry Potter is all. I'm more in trouble with my dad if anything," I inform him.
"So you'll find out the punishment later then," he follows up.
"Yeah, pretty much.Unless he doesn't really punish me after seeing the footage. Which I know better than to believe that," I explain.
"Maybe, but your dad can be rational at times," he reminds me.
"Trust me. I'm well aware of how rational he thinks," I joke. He nods his head in return as our classmates begin pouring into our class waiting to begin.
"Good morning, class. I see we can be in our seats and ready to start on time. Uzumaki, stay after class. I'm sure everyone saw your stint this morning. If not, let me remind everyone you are not to use your powers outside of school. Unless in an emergency situation. I understand that you felt threatened and you were concerned about your friend, but that doesn't make it okay, so there are consequences we have to discuss," Eraser says. So much for waiting until we get home, dad.
"Yes, sir. I'm sorry about that, but you are correct. That was a misuse of my powers even if I felt threatened. I should have called for assistance louder," I say standing up and bowing to apologize.
"All good kitten, I wanted to make sure that the rest of them don't get any ideas about how to deal with the reporters. No punishment, but you do have to help do dishes and laundry tonight"
"Sounds fair dad,"
"Now moving on. "Decent work on yesterday's combat training, you guys. I saw the video feeds and went over each of your team's results. Bakugo. You're talented. So don't sulk like a child about your loss, okay,"
"Yeah, whatever," Bakugo replies.
"And Midoriya," Eraser continues, "I see the only way you won the match was by messing up your arm again. Work harder. And don't give me the excuse that you don't have control over your Quirk. That line's already getting old. You can't keep breaking your body while training here. But your Quirk will be really useful if you can get a handle on it".
Deku nods and gasps in surprise.
"So show a little urgency, huh,"
"Right," Deku replies.
"Let's get down to business. Our first task will decide your future," Eraser states with a serious tone, "You all need to pick a class representative".
"Pick me, guys! I wanna be class rep," Kirishima states excitedly.
"I'll take it," Denki says.
"Yeah, you're gonna need me," says Jiro.
"Someone with style would be best," Aoyama says.
"I'm, like, totally the right pick," Mina says, waving her arms.
"I wanna do it," Mineta says. Then chaos happens and everyone is making noise to be picked for class rep. I sit back and smile around enjoying the chaos around.
"Silence, everyone, please," Iida yells out, "The class representative's duty is to lead others. That's not something just anyone can do. You must first have the trust of every student in the classroom. Therefore, the most logical way to fill this position is democratically. We will hold an election to choose our leader".
"It's pretty obvious you want us to vote for you," everyone states.
"Is this really the best idea?" Denki questions.
"We've only known each other a few days, how do we know who we can trust," Sui replies.
"Besides, everyone'll just vote for themselves," Kirishima questions.
"You're partially right Kiri. Most people will. But there will be others who vote for someone other than themselves. It might just mean one extra vote from another person is all that they need to win as class rep," I inform him with a smile, "Sorry Iida. I guess I took the words from you".
"No you're right. It's the best way to see who would be best for the job.Voting would be the best way, right, sir?," Iida questions turning to look at Eraser who is placing his sleeping bag on to take a nap.
"Do what you want, just decide before my nap's over," our teacher informs us.
"Thank you for your trust," Iida replies.
Class rep votes:
Kairi Uzumaki- 4
Izuku Midoriya- 3
Momo Yaoyorozu- 2
Everyone else except for Mina, Iida, Ochaco, Shoto, Toru, and Bakugo.
"How did I get four/Three votes?" Midoriya and I shouted in unison.
"Okay, you idiots, who voted for him," Bakugo shouted.
"What, did you honestly think anyone was gonna vote for you," Sero questioned.
"What did you just say," Bakugo shouted over to him.
"Hey, calm down. It's not worth getting worked up over," I say calmly.
"Pipe it down over there princess just because you got four votes doesn't make you special," he says, turning his anger over at me.
"Alright, dynamite. I don't think I'm special. I didn't even vote for me, nor did I vote for Midoriya. There's always next year. Just think about how you can do better and maybe you can be the representative then," I inform him calmly, "I will even help you out with how to earn the votes if you ask nicely".
"Like hell I need your help," he yells back before sitting down.
"So you voted for someone else, huh," Momo questioned.
"But you knew it was best to vote for yourself, right? What were you tryin' to prove here, Iida," Sato asked.
"All right, the class rep is Uzumaki," Eraser says, "and ou-"
"Like my favorite Game of Thrones character states, I don't want it, give it to the next runner up. I didn't even vote for myself, and honestly while I could manage it and extra things outside of the class I don't really have the desire to," I state cutting off our teacher.
"All right, well since Uzumaki declines the position it goes to Midoriya, and our deputy is Yaoyorozu," Eraser states.
"Really? Uh. It's not a mistake," Midoriya questions while standing up in front of the class.
"This might not be so bad," Sui states.
"Yeah, I can get behind Midoriya I guess," Kirishima states,
"Yaoyorozu was totally on top of it when it came to our training results," chimes in Denki. We went through the rest of our classes before the start of lunch. I go and sit with Shoto and Hitoshi for lunch.
"So I was voted as class rep today," I informed Hito as we sat down.
"Really that's cool," he says.
"I turned it down, John Snow style," I told him with a smile.
"Of course you did. Still I wonder who would vote for you," he tells me.
"I did," Shoto tells us.
"Really? Why," I questioned.
"Because you can calm down Bakugo. You can be calm and collective when the time arises, and I think you would be a really good fit for the class. You are considerate towards others and always looking out for your friends," Sho explains.
"He has a point," Hitoshi states, "Do you know who else did,"
"Probably Mina, Toru, and Bakugo," I explained. Shoto looks at me surprised.
"They were talking last night when she got home," Hitoshi informs him with a smile.
"Shut up, nerd. He was just telling me about what happened after he left. He looked torn up after our battles and I thought he needed someone to listen to him without being friends with him," I explained.
"Sure. So. when you two start going out, can I quote you on that. Though I'm still cheering for you Todoroki," Hitoshi states with a smile pointing over to Sho.
"Cheering for me to do what," Sho asks, confused.
"To be Kairi's boyfriend. Like her actual boyfriend that goes on dates," Hitoshi explains.
"But I am-," Sho starts.
"No, Shoto. We've talked about this. We are friends and we hang out, but we don't go on dates," I explain before he digs us into a hole, I can't dig us out of.
"Oh, that's right. What if we," he is cut off by an alarm going off.
Announcement comes on, "Warning. Level Three security breach. All students please evacuate the building in an orderly fashion".
"Hitoshi, Sho let's go. We need to get out of here. Someone has broken past the security systems," I say as I get up and grab their hands leading them to the hallway where everyone was pushing and shoving their way to get out. Shortly after entering the hallway I was pushed out of the grips of both Shoto and Hitoshi. I could feel myself getting pushed around and with all the panicking thoughts around my brain was starting to overload with everyone's thoughts. Suddenly I was elbowed hard in my nose.
"Hey watch it," I yelled out, moving my right hand to my nose as I could feel the blood pouring out of it. Great, it's broken. Despite wearing my bracelet I could still hear all the thoughts due to how loud everyone was panicking. I could feel myself getting lightheaded from the thoughts, blood loss, possible concussion, and my quirk to heal trying to fix my broken cartilage.
"Weird hair, grab princess," I hear a voice call out as a hand wraps around my left upper arm. I'm pulled back and pushed between two bodies.
"Holy shit, Kairi are you okay," I hear Denki ask. I shake my head feeling even more lightheaded. I feel two sets of arms wrap around me, one from my front to wrap from my back and one from the back to wrap around my front.
"Crap, Kairi. Don't pass out," I hear Kirishima say, "Put pressure on her nose to stop the bleeding Bakugo".
"Don't tell me what to do," I hear the angry boy reply before one of the arms move and suddenly searing hot pain erupts from my nose. I try to move back, but with Kirishima behind me I don't go very far.
"Kairi, Don't move, we have to stop the bleeding," Kirishima tells me.
"It's gotta be fixed, before it heals," I mumble.
"What?! Hey stop pushing, we are trying to hold someone up over here," I hear Denki yell out.
"Everyone! Stop freakin' out,'' Kirishima yells out. I can feel things starting to get fuzzy and words getting muffled. How hard did that person hit me? My head freaking hurts. Suddenly things start to calm down and I can feel less panicked thoughts in my head, making my head hurt a little less, but I can barely feel conscious at the moment to hear what is going on around me.
Slowly but surely I can feel less people around me, but I am still being moved about. I feel someone sit me down and shake me a bit. I shake my head a little to help regain some of my vision that had gone black for a moment. Around me I see Bakugo standing up looking down at me, Kirishima, Midoriya, Ochaco, Tenya, and Denki crouched down looking over me with concern.
"I think we should take her to the nurse," I hear Denki say.
"That would be best, she seems to have lost a bit of blood and her nose doesn't look normal," I hear Tenya reply.
"Yes, I need to see the nurse. I probably have a mild concussion, and my nose definitely needs to be reset since it has already healed in its current position," I mumble out.
"Kairi you're awake," I hear Ochaco say with excitement.
"I've been slightly conscious of what was going on, so that's a good thing. Can someone help me get to Recovery Girl, I'm not too sure if I will be steady on my feet just yet," I inform them.
"I'll take you. Kirishima, can you help carry her," Denki says.
"You weaklings. I'll carry her, she's not that heavy. Move let me get to her," Bakugo says, moving them away from me.
"Hey, be careful. She's injured and doesn't need you manhandling her," Denki says.
"I know! But you two can't carry her, she's light compared to the books we carry to and from school," Bakugo yells back.
"Please stop yelling, my head hurts. Look I don't mind them he-," I get cut off.
"Kairi/ Kar," I heard two voices call out.
"She got hit in the face while in the crowd. She seems to have a mild concussion as well," Denki explains.
"Thank you for watching out for her. We can get her to the nurse's office," Hitoshi explains.
"Watch it Icy Hot!," I hear Bakugo yell.
"Please stop yelling, it makes my head feel worse. Sho, can you carry me, and use your cool side to help with my nose," I questioned.
"Yes. Let's get you taken care of. Shinso is letting your dad know what happened so he will be informed," Shoto says as he walks over to me. He picks me up bridal style with my head resting against his left side.
"We'll take care of her, you can get back to class. We will let everyone know when she's doing better," Shoto informs everyone before walking towards the office. When we get there, Recovery Girl injects my nose with a numbing agent and then proceeds to re-break my nose so she can put it back in place. She also takes off my bracelet and hands it to Hitoshi, telling him I need to leave it off until I am completely healed tomorrow morning. After she writes him a note to return to his class and wraps my nose up but you can still see the bruising on my face. She hands me and Shoto a note to return to class and tells him if I start to look like I will faint to bring me back to the office and she will get me sent to the hospital for a CT scan of my brain. The walk back to class I held on to his arm to keep my steady and because I was nervous on how I will look to everyone in the class.
When we opened the door Tenya and Momo were standing in front of the class.
"Kairi! What the hell happened to your face," I heard Mina call out.
"Someone hit her in the nose during the issue in the hallway. Recovery Girl fixed it, and she said she should be better by tomorrow," Shoto explained. I leaned on him as a silent thank you.
"Are you okay," Momo asked, walking over to me.
"Yeah, my head hurts but like Sho said by tomorrow I will be back to my normal self. If we are voting for other class offices. I can be the Secretary, if that's still open. If it's okay with you sir, can I go lay my head down in the back," I state then move over to our teacher to hand him the note from Recovery Girl.
"Yeah that's fine. I'll keep an eye out in case you close your eyes and fall asleep. Recovery Girl's note says to watch out for your concussion," Eraser says after reading the note.
"Thank you, sir," I state then with Shoto following behind me to make my way to my desk.
Voting continues and I become Secretary while Midoriya becomes treasurer.
The bell rings to end the day and I remain in my seat knowing I need to talk with dad.
"Hey Kairi, I'm going to wait for you to finish with Mr. Aizawa by the entrance," Shoto tells me.
"No need for that Todoroki. She's getting a ride home today, with what happened the school wants to make sure she's being watched by an adult until she gets home," dad informs him. Shoto nods his head and walks out leaving me alone with dad.
"Who broke the gate," I questioned.
"We don't know. We think it could have been a villain, but nothing was taken that we know of," he informs me. I nod understanding.
"Is Hitoshi coming home with us or did he already leave," I questioned.
"No, he's waiting in Nezu's office for me. With what happened Nezu wanted to make sure you and him were kept safe," dad explained.
"Can we go home now, or do we need to stay around here more," I questioned.
"You two will go home with Seto. Nezu is letting him come and pick you up while we see what we can find about what happened. I will be home a bit later, but he knows to watch you. I'm having you sleep in my room so Shinso can get some rest while Seto and I do checks on you and your brain," he explains while packing up his sleeping bag. I nod again and move to grab my bag, but before I can pick it up dad lifts it and carries it with him and we begin our walk to Nezu's office. From there he has Hitoshi and I sit there until Seto arrives and takes us home. True to dad's word, every 2-4 hours I was woken up during the night to make sure I wasn't in danger with my injury.
