Chapter 19: "The door is listening."

(Yoongi POV)

Three.

The most important number in existence right now.

Three minutes. To pull off the greatest escape plan in history.

Yanna is trusting me. I can't lose her again. She's standing in front of me with her blindfold tightly gripped in her hands. I can see the fear in her eyes, and yet, she keeps standing tall because I asked her to. This is my chance...so I gotta make it count.

(Yanna POV)

"O-Okay... I trust you."

Did I really just say that? Is that even true? I honestly don't know who or what or how anything makes sense right now. My own thoughts don't even make sense right now! All I know for sure is that Yoongi is desperately trying to save us. He kept his mouth shut the entire time Jungkook hit him, kicked him, and god knows what else he did to Yoongi. But as soon as Jungkook's attention turned to me, Yoongi spoke up and even attacked.

Just thinking about it makes it hard for me to breathe. I'm trying to keep a confident facade, but I'm failing miserably. I can't keep myself from shaking.

Yoongi has been subtly scanning the room, taking mental notes of every detail. His sight pauses on a few items including the blindfold in my hands, the gas tanks on the opposite wall, and a small reflective blade on the ground. I know that his brain working overtime has paid off when a small smirk lands on his lips. Quickly, he turns to me, "Yanna, can you do something for me?" He asks as he catches my attention fast and keeps it right in his eyes where he wants it.

I nod just as quickly, "Y-Yeah, of c-course."

He signals to the other side of the room with just his eyes and whispers, "Do you see the blade on the floor?"

"Why? What does he want me to do with that?"

Okay, it was fine seeing all those big fancy weapons in Yoongi's Safe House because I knew for a fact that I was never going to use them, and hopefully, I was never going to see Yoongi use any of them. Good to know that confidence is crashed!

I swiftly dart my eyes to the side and catch a glimpse of the knife. It's blurry, but I can see a general outline of some kind of object on the floor that must be what he's referring to.

Yoongi bites his lip for a moment... is that a hint of excitement in his eyes? Maybe it's just the adrenaline rush. He starts with his instructions, "Okay. I'm going to distract the guard. I need you to get that knife and--"

Yoongi pauses when I flinch (not that I meant to or anything). Honestly, I can't stop myself from shaking!

I didn't expect him to notice, but he did.

"Hey," Yoongi's voice lowers to a soft mono toned hum almost. A soothing, reassuring hum that makes me feel more sleep deprived than I ever was, "We're gonna be fine." He assures me.

But even with his calming words flooding over my ears, I still can't steady my rapid heartbeat, "I'm just scared." I admit.

If I'm honest, I don't expect Yoongi to react to my confession. Yoongi obviously has been in places worse than this before. As long as I survive and he "protects" me, he's done his job. He shouldn't care about how I'm feeling right now when there are much more pressing matters at hand.

But then he carefully takes my hands in his and gently squeezes my fingers, "I promise. I'm going to get you out of here. I will never let anything happen to you."

"Yoongi?"

My chest relaxes automatically, and I take in a deep breath, "I trust you, Yoongi."

"And I trust you, Yanna. Are you ready now?"

I nod quickly, "Yeah. Yeah, I'm ready."

"Alright, time to escape." He tells me with a confident smirk. Lie number... I lost count to be honest.

Yoongi starts to explain the plan, but I notice the glare coming from the door. The guard's eyes are glued to us, taking in every whisper and every move of my lips. I shift uncomfortably under his gaze.

Yoongi pauses again to ask me, "What is it now?" He sounds very irritated.

I bite my lower lip, looking down at the ground between my shaking knees, "The door is listening." I mumble.

Yoongi furrows his brow for a moment until he can make sense of my words. His expression turns from irritation to pure frustration.

The guard inches closer and closer to us until finally--

"I'm sorry!" Yoongi quickly whips himself around, only to come chest to face with the guard who obviously knows nothing of personal boundaries, "I am trying to say goodbye to my girlfriend, and I would really appreciate it if you would give us some space considering I only have two minutes left with her. Thank you." He turns back around and winks at me.

I don't know what to do so I just watch the guard slowly walk back to the door.

"Girlfriend? Did Yoongi just say... girlfriend?"

Ah, I don't have time to think about these things right now. My legs feel like they could give way at any second. My eyes feel gunshot. My chest feels like two giant knots have formed around my rib cage and are tightening by the second. But I also feel a fire in my body, like shots of electronic energy rushing through my veins making my senses spike.

Yoongi sighs loudly, obviously wanting the henchman to hear his next words, "Now I can properly tell her goodbye."

"Yoongi--" I gasp when he pulls me into his chest, holding my body pressed to his as if he's catching me from falling. He buries his face in the crook of my neck, his breath slightly tickling but also enchanting me. My mind races a thousand miles per hour because... what the heck is he even doing?

He's very warm and despite his body being bruised, he still holds me close. I slowly bring my arms around his waist, finding the strength to grip his shirt between my palms.

He turns slightly to whisper to me, his lips against my ear and his voice the softest I've ever heard it, "Okay, change of plans. Listen closely."

I listen to his every word.

"What?" I ask in disbelief when he finishes explaining, hiding my expression in his shoulder, "That makes no sense? What are you planning after--?"

"Shh," He shushes me while still holding my weakened frame in his arms, "Just do it."

"Yoongi, I can't faint on command. W-Why do you even need me to faint?" I whisper through clenched teeth.

"Come on," He cups the back of my head, his two fingers pressing into the back of my neck harshly, "I know this plan sounds crazy, but it can work. We don't have much time left, and you need to faint now, okay?"

I hold my breath while he keeps his cheek pressed to mine, "Yoongi, I-I just don't know if... I can... fake..." My words trail off into the echo of the room.

"Whoa, I suddenly feel really... dizzy...?"

"You don't need to fake." I hear Yoongi say, "You just need to sleep." And a split second later, my world is black.

Although the rest of my senses are useless at this point, my heart is still beating. And my mind seems to be flooding with images and thoughts.

"Mom?"

"Dad?"

"Are you there? I need to know something..."

"What is your story exactly? Is it bad? Will it hurt me? Is it your fault I'm here?"

"Questions, I know. They suck. But I have a lot of them."

"I wish I had answers though. I would much rather have answers. Answers seem so much nicer to have."

"I know you have something to do with all this mess. There must be a reason. Isn't there?"

"Answer me. Wherever you are and tell me. What did you do when you were young that's causing so much trouble now? And why did you?"

(Yoongi POV)

"Yoongi, I-I just don't know if... I can... fake..."

Yanna's words fade into silence as she passes unconscious. What? You think I don't know about pressure points? The two at the base of a person's skull are probably the easiest to find and the quickest to activate. For me, at least.

"You don't need to fake. You just need to sleep." I whisper gently as she falls asleep.

Yanna wasn't going to follow my plan without at least two minutes of convincing, and I have just barely a minute. So, I did what I had to do.

"Yanna!!" I gasp and scream as she collapses into my arms as if I wasn't expecting her to randomly faint.

Agent 223 immediately runs to us. I can see the state of panic setting in his eyes. He looks over my shoulder as I pick up Yanna bridal style and take a few shaky breaths.

I quickly turn to the agent, "What do we do now? She's passed out and Jungkook will be back any second! If he sees her like this... there's no way he's showing mercy to either one of us." I make sure to lower my voice and keep that fake, scared expression staring up at the guard standing head and shoulders above me, "We'll both be done for, Agent 223. We have to get out of here before Jungkook comes back."

There's no way I can take this guy while I have Yanna on my back. If I was alone then sure I could pull a few strings and make it out in no time. But not while I have Yanna to protect. I had to think of something else. Something to help me gain the upper hand.

When Jungkook comes back, it'll two against one. I need someone on my side as well (someone other than an unconscious girl). Since there's no one else, I'll just have to make do with Jungkook's agent. Fear is the only thing great enough to make a man question his loyalty. If I can convince Agent 223 that Jungkook is coming back for his neck too, then I can have my cake and eat it too.

The agent looks between me and the girl who is draped in my arms. He hesitates, but I don't have time for that, "Come on!" I try to push his already racing mind because, well, we are in kind of a hurry.

He shakes his head, "I-I'm not supposed to let you leave."

I sigh and roll my eyes, "Listen to me! Jungkook doesn't give a crap about me or you, but he does care about this girl, and when he sees that she's fainted with no signs of waking up while she's under YOUR watch, there's no telling how upset he will be." I look down at my tattered, bruised self, "You think what he did to me was bad? These bruises are nothing compared to the beating you'll get when Jungkook comes back and sees Yanna like this." I raise my eyebrows at him, hoping my lie sounds convincing enough to make his logic waver.

"That's it. I'm out of time. Something has to happen now!"

The agent's eyes scan me up and down until I can practically feel the sweat dripping from his brow, "Let's get out of here." He says obviously scared.

"Okay, barricade the door with those gas tanks." I tell him quickly, and Agent 223 runs to do so.

I grab the knife from the other side of the room and tuck it into my sleeve while his back is turned, and then we both run towards the window.

I know what I'm about to do is mean. At least, that's what I imagine Yanna calling it. If she knew what I was about to do, she would scold me and say something like "that's so cruel, Min Yoongi!".

Well yeah, but I'm saving her! This is how I'm saving her! And to be honest, I don't care what happens to anyone else as long as I can get Yanna out of here and get us to safety. I wasn't going to admit this but... I do need to tell her something before this mission is over.

Agent 223 opens the window, "Hurry up! Jungkook will be back any second!"

Just as planned, Agent 223 lets me go first with Yanna. I have about twenty seconds until my three minutes are up. That's exactly how much time I need.

With Yanna safely hooked to my back, I climb my way up to the windowsill and turn to look back down at the agent who is reaching his hand up to me.

"Help me up!" He says while quickly jumping as if to hurry me along.

I look down at this agent who probably won't make it out of this. And just like all the other times, I don't feel a pinch of regret for what I'm about to do.

The agent's eyes turn confused when, instead of reaching for his hand, my hand pulls out a small kitchen knife and aims is directly at the gas tank barricading the door and locking him inside the room.

The blade slices through the top funnel, making a large hole for the gas to leak through and fill the room. I close the window and watch for only a second as the fog spreads from the door to the back wall, completely encompassing everything in the room in a poisonous cloud, including the agent I just tricked.

I jump from the window onto the grass and begin my run away from that warehouse. Jungkook should be bursting through the door any second now only to find his prisoner gone, his enemy escaped, and his agent suffocated.

"I only hope Yanna understands... why I did what I did."

With the warehouse a little ways behind me, I can slow my steady sprint to a much more comfortable pace and--

"Wha--oof!" I grunt when my face hits the grass. The ground shook underneath me like an earthquake, and the darkness lit up like fireworks behind me.

Yanna's body, thank goodness, only rolled a few inches from me after I fell. I swiftly pull her back into my arms, holding her secure in my lap while I watch the scene behind me.

Above the trees I can see it. Fire rises high into the night sky and black smoke makes even the stars disappear and now there is no shine from the moon either.

Was there fire? Was there a spark? I didn't mean for the warehouse to blow up. What could I have missed? I figure the gas I released played a part, but still. The building... exploded that easily?

Jungkook. Was he still in there? Does this mean he's... or maybe he survived?

I don't know. But as I once again secure Yanna onto my back and carefully run as far away from that place as I can take us, I know one thing for sure.

Yanna is almost safe. And I won't stop until that "almost" is a "definitely".
