Y/N PoV
"What the hell was that last night?" Archie stomps into the room yelling at Betty.
I briefly look at him then back down to the floor. My eyes have been red from crying with tear stains running down my cheeks.
Archie doesn't notice me sitting in the corner, "Betty?"
"I lied to you. When you asked me if the Black Hood called again. He did." She wince, "And he said I had to cut Veronica out of my life or he'd..and now he wants me to break up Y/N and Jughead."
I nod, "Yeah."
"Betty why didn't you tell me?" He asks seeing my saddened tear stained face.
She scoffs, "Becasue I knew you'd try to talk me out of it."
"Your right." Archie reaches for his phone in his pocket, "It's my mistake." He dials a number and begins to walk out.
I get up and slap the phone out of his hand without thinking, "No! Listen to me, please, he hasn't attacked or killed anyone since he started calling Betty. This is distracting him."
"Y/N, he's torturing you and Betty. How are you going to put yourself through that?" He grabs his phone off the ground, "And you cracked it."
"I'm sorry, but he threatened to kill Jughead. I can't let him do that and I bet you would want him to either." I sniffle with a long sigh to prepare myself for the possible arrangement, "Could you maybe do it for me?"
"What?" Archie says in disbelief.
"If Betty tried to break us up, she might have problems with Sweet Pea. It would mean the both of us suffer so I thought maybe you can do it? I can take all of the pain not Betty." I frown thinking about the excuse that Jughead will need to believe, "Maybe...tell him that we just need to stay away from each other for a while. Something, anything to just keep him safe to appease the Black Hood." I wipe my tears away, but it's no use.
"Y/N." He shakes his head with his eyes closed imagining the events.
My tears travel down my face in the familiar path on my cheeks, "It doesn't have to be cruel, Archie. Just enough to make Jug believe it. We can walk it back later."
Archie sighs, "You mean, you hope you can?"
"No. We can. And we will. He will understand." I tell him firmly, "Please Archie. I'll do anything, just please."
————
I decided to block Jughead. If he called or texted me, I don't think I could act like I didn't want to be with him. It would hurt him even more coming for me.
All I did was sit in my bed and stare at the ceiling thinking about every second I've spent with him.
I smile thinking about them all...playing outside with our sticky popsicle fingers as a toddler. The first day of kindergarten. Learning to drive. His mom leaving and mine passing away. Our drunk fathers. Our first kiss. Laying in bed with him after a movie. Feeling safe with one another when the world was falling apart...the last time I seen him at Pops. It's just broken memories from the boy I love.
————
Archie called the next morning, "It's done." He whispers, "Can we meet up at Pops?"
"Yeah, sure." I hang up then go to the bathroom I share with Veronica and put on some makeup to hide my puffy red eyes. I don't do anything special with my hair, keeping it down.
I walk to Pops joining Archie about half way there. We don't say anything to each other, to be honest I think he's worried he would make me cry. He does finally work up the courage to say something though, "Are you okay?"
"Sure." I tell him dully the I take a look into Pops windows and see him. Jughead looks happy, laughing with Toni enjoying breakfast. My stomach drops, he doesn't seem bothered at all. I bite my lip concentrating on anything but him. My phone vibrates in my pocket as I swallow the lump in my throat, "Fred? What's up?"
————
"Riverdale's best and brightest." Alice gives us her best smile and sets down a tray of coffee and tea.
Mayor McCoy grabs a cup, "Alice, thank you for hosting."
"Of course, Mayor McCoy. When I heard what happened at Nick's party, I decided that we should come together to deal with this motley crew of liars, dope-fiends, and fornicators. Except for my Betty and surprisingly Y/N who were smart enough to leave the party before it descended into a bacchanalian free for all."
Her daughter sighs, "Oh my god. Mom, please stop."
Veronica rolls her eyes, "Oh great! Here we go again, Saint Betty and Succubus Veronica." She whispers loudly to Archie.
"So, this is for clarity, Alice. Your hosting this little get-together to what?" Hiram asks.
Ronnie continues to whisper for all to hear, "You know, I may have taken Jingle Jangle, but she's the one who had a psychotic break down. And Y/N. She didn't do anything to stop her, some friend she is."
"Cut her some slack, Veronica. She just broke up with Jughead."
Kevin looks at me shocked, "What? Hashtag Y/I-ughead is no more? And you didn't tell me?"
I look down at the floor sadly pretending I didn't hear anything about our break up.
Alice clears her throat to get us back to the conversation.
Hiram removes his arms from the back of a lounge chair, "Careful throwing stones there, acid-queen Alice. I'm not the only one in this room that knows the story behind that mugshot that your daughter printed in her paper."
"Well I for one want to know who brought the Jingle Jangle to the party?"
Everybody stays quiet but Reggie. He slowly raises his hand. Mrs.Mantle pushes it down immediately, "Reginald, not a single word out of your mouth until we get a lawyer."
Hiram looks at her calmly, "No, all Reggie needs to tell us, Melinda, is how he acquainted it."
"Some gang member who deals on the Southside." He admits.
"Oh my god, you have a dealer?!" His mother yells.
"Once again, Mayor, the Southside is the source of all our problems." Veronica's dad declares.
Fred eyes Reggie, "Was he a Serpent? Did he go to Southside High?"
"I think so, yeah." Reggie puts his hands in his coat pockets quickly, like he's lying.
I shake my head, "Serpents don't deal."
"Y/Ns right, not all Serpents are drug dealers." Archie tells us.
"Archie, not helping." His dad says.
Veronica crosses her arms and leans back, "Look, we shouldn't have taken the JJ, but Nick's the one who asked Reggie to get it and then pushed it on us. He's the one who should be in the hot seat. I mean he's the one who roofied Cheryl and tried to assault her."
I sit up, "What? Nick tried to assault Cheryl?"
"Prosecuting Nick St. Clair would be difficult given that all witnesses are high." The Sheriff informs us.
"Yeah, but Josie and I saw Nick with Cheryl the night after the party, and neither of us were on Jingle Jangle." The Pussycats nod at Veronica's statement.
"The drug stays in your system for three days. So if I drug tested you right now, you'd have a credibility problem."
Mayor McCoy gets up from her chair and walks over to her daughter. Her expression would make anyone feel disappointed in yourself, "Josie, you took that drug? You put that poison in your system, knowing the way your father struggled with addiction?" Josie nods, "I see. From this moment on, bringing the Southside under control is my number one priority as mayor. If it means razing it to the ground or arresting every single Serpent in sight, starting at that high school, so be it." She grabs Josie's hand and pulls her out of the house.
I grab my jacket from Alice's coat hooks, "Well this has been fun, but I'm leaving." I don't think I've ever seen the Mayor this set on something. If she really is, Southside High is about to get raided. I need to get Jughead out of there and I don't care if he doesn't want to see me. This is something I really don't want him caught up in.
————
I run through Southside High's hallways on the search for Jughead. He is outside a classroom texting some one. "Jug! Jug!" I sprint over to him.
"Y/N? What do you want?" He crosses his arms and gives me a dirty look, "Here to throw some salt in the wound?"
I grab his forearm and pull him towards the door, "Listen to me! We have to go now. Mayor McCoy's about to raid Southside High." The doors open loudly as several cops walk in grabbing different students, "Jughead please?" He stands there shocked looking at the kids being put in handcuffs. I pull him towards the door quickly.
He yells out for Toni to encourage her to run but it's too late. A Sheriff grabs her shoulders and puts Toni in cuffs.
"Jug, you can't help her behind bars, come on." Finally, he doesn't resists and we run out of the school.
We walk side by side, quietly. I take him to the car, "Do you want a ride?"
"No, I'll walk."
It takes a lot to turn away from him and open the car door, but I do it.
"I joined the Serpents." He tells me, "Thought you should probably know that."
"Ok." The car door slams louder than I wish because of the wind. I don't want him to think I'm mad at him at him. I mean, he thinks I hate him at the moment so like we said, it's more salt in the wound.
————
Betty is holding her phone outside of an empty class room. She sees me walking down the hall and before I know it she pulls me into the room with her. "What's going on?" I ask.
"Another call." She answers her phone, "I've done everything you've asked. Why keep calling me?"
"Because we're not finished. I spared Nick's life. Because of me, you don't have his blood on your hands. If you don't help me, you'll be responsible for far worse. Riverdale's streets will run red."
She scoffs, "Help you how?"
"While Keller and his men hunt for low-level dealers, we will go after the real sinner, the drug maker, someone who hides behind a name, the Sugar Man. A corrupter of children who deserves swift, brutal justice." The deep voice says calming, its strange how at ease he sounds.
She paces between two desks thinking, "The fact that you're asking me to find him means that you can't. I'm a school newspaper reporter!"
"Who also happens to be friends with the daughter of the Sugar Man's former supplier. Clifford Blossom. I'd start there."
I shake my head. Two teenagers finding the freaking Sugar Man? Crazy!
'Ask him, what happens if he finds him.' I mouth to Betty.
She nods "And if I do find him, what will you do to him?"
"Don't ask questions you don't want the answers to, Betty." He takes a pause, "Bring me the identity of the Sugar Man and I will put down my sword."
"And if I don't?" Betts asks, "If I refuse?"
"Someone will be purified. Don't test me on that." The phone call ends.
I get up from desk I was sitting on, "What now? I'm mean, this is crazy! Like craziest thing to ever happen crazy."
"We find the Sugar Man." The blonde puts her phone into her pocket, "But where do we start?"
"Cheryl." The bell rings but I ignore it, "She's not my jurisdiction so have fun. Call me if there's a break in the case." I grab my bag and begin to walk out but stop, "Also your boyfriend's high school just got raided. Might wanna go see if Pea is in jail or he got bailed out."
————
I decide to go to the art room, to blow off some steam. It's been too much for me these last couple of days and it's worse without Jughead. The sketch I've been making doesn't have much use anymore. I started it a couple of weeks ago for Jughead's Christmas present.
The basic outline of us was done. If I finish it, the sketch will be of his favorite pictures, one of many Kevin took of us.
Here is the picture...(pretend Betty is you.)
It was probably one of the better drawings I've done, and now I'm not sure if anyone will see it.
I decide against not finishing it. We can figure things out and it might help me cope in some messed up way.
After an hour of working, Sweet Pea walks in with a smile, "Y/N L/N."
I smile, "Person who's real name is unknown!" I set down my pencil and take a look at him, "Nice black eye."
"Thanks. Your boy gave it to me."
My jaw drops, no way! "Jughead did that?" I ask.
"No! No, Archie did." He shakes his head chucking, "Serpent verses Bulldog fight."
I groan, "The Bulldogs are such morons." They are the stupidest meat-head I know, especially Reggie,"So how's life been lately?"
"Great. I really like Betty, she's the best." He sits down on a stool next to mine, "How about you? I watched Archie break up with Jughead for you, pretty rough."
I frown, "Yeah, it is."
He smiles and points to my sketch to change the subject, "That's really good."
"Thanks. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift." I smile a little, "Though it might be sort lame."
"No way! This is prefect." Pea looks into my eyes, "You really are an amazing artist."
"Thank you." A blush creeps up onto my face without control, "What do you do that's not Serpent related?"
He chuckles lightly, "Not a lot actually. My life's pretty boring." It seems like he shifted towards me, getting closer by the second and I like it.
"It's sure your life is pretty fun." I move closer to him slowly, "You would be one fun person to be around. Serpent business and hanging out at the bar. You sound like a perfect guy."A small smile forms on his face as his lips inch closer to mine, making me forget everything. The feeling inside my stomach I haven't felt for awhile surfaces. The last time butterflies flew was in Pops when I was with...Jughead. I quickly pull away from him with an awkward smile.
He realizes what happened and stands up with speed, "I should go."
"Me too." I gather my things, "I'm being forced by Keller to do some community service because of a drug party that I didn't actually part take in."
"Fun." Sweet Pea shakily pushes his chair under the desk, "Can..can I see you soon?"
"Yes." I let a small breath escape my lungs I've been holding in, "Very soon."
————
I did the shitty community service ignoring everyone. Betty was trying to talk, but I stayed away from her considering I almost kissed her boyfriend. Keller came by to check on us once or twice and a third time to tell us we're done. Betty was at Fred's car after I turned in the awful orange vest, "Hey, what's up?" I ask awkwardly.
"Veronica and I are going to go bust the Sugar Man."
I purse my lips, "Aren't you guys like enemies?"
"We made up. Are you in? Please say yes." She begs, "It wouldn't be a proper mission without you."
"Ugh, fine." I sigh internally, wondering if I should tell her. It would ruin my chances with Jughead but I liked the small moment with Sweet Pea. What the crap does this mean? Why are guys are so confusing!!!!!!!!! (That's low-key just me all the time.)
She claps her hands together once, "Yay! Meet us at the Southside in 10 minutes, don't be late." Betty turns around and walks away.
"Wait!" I yell, "What am I doing exactly?"
"I'll explain when you get there!" She yells back.
————
I sit behind a stinky dumpster waiting for Veronica's call. Turns out all I have to do is follow the dealer back to wherever he's going to. It sounds okay, but the dumpster is making it suck.
Some guy runs by at full speed into an ally way. Betty's phone rings and she answers, "I've got eyes on him."
I take off in a sprint behind the man. She runs after me with not as much speed. She begins to lose us, but I keep going until he goes into some random building. I wait for Ronnie and Betty to catch up.
They find me, "Why are you so fast?" Betty asks, panting from the long run.
I shrug and nudge her jokingly, "I don't know. Why are you so slow?"
She shakes her head with a small smile then opens the door, "Ready for this?"
"Always." Ronnie walks in first. We find the man in the hallway walking in.
"What are you doing?" He yells at us, "Get out!"
"No." I take out my old switchblade, "Take us to your bosses or you can get skinned." I hold it up to his throat, "And I'm stronger than you think."
The dealer puts his hands up in surrender, "God, fine." He takes us into a room, "They were following me, tried to get in the garage." He tells the boss.
When we look over to the boss our boys are standing there.
"Veronica? Betty?" Archie asks.
Jughead looks at me, "Y/N?"
"Archie?" Ronnie's jaw is slightly dropped making a random guy in the corner chuckle.
"Jughead." I breathe out sadly, "What are you two doing here?"
A Ghoulie points towards us angrily, "Wait, so there are your bitches?"
"I beg your misogynistic pardon?" Veronica crosses her arms.
I hold up my knife, "Wanna call us that again because I can do some damage and," I point to Jughead and Archie, "these two know it."
"Y/N put the knife down." Jughead instructs me but I don't listen, "Y/N, do it!"
I'm taken back by his sharp tone, "Geez, fine." I put the blade back into my pocket with a frown, "That could've been fun." I whisper to myself.
"Why don't you take your shanks and get the hell out of here." The man tells them, "Until you make me a better offer, there'll be no race."
Jughead shakes his head, "If you win, we'll give you the Whyte Wyrm. You can expand your drug-dealing horizons, and upgrade out of this literal hellhole."
The guy steps closer to Jughead, "We'll take the Wyrm, and Sunnyside Trailer Park."
I look at Jughead shocked. Will he actually risk everything the Serpents have? For what, some silly race? "Jughead no!"
He nods ignoring me, "Deal."
"Good, now get you and your girls out of here." He crosses his arms, "Right now."
Jughead nods, "Fine. See you at the race." He grabs my arm and leads me out of what they called the garage.
Once outside, Archie shakes his head disappointingly, "What were you guys doing there?"
"No, there's no time to talk. We need to find a car and a mechanic." Jug tells us.
I shove my hands into my pockets, "I know where you can get a car and a mechanic."
————
"God bless Reggie Mantle and his inferiority complex. His car's a lot like him, it's beautiful to look at, but not much going on under the hood." I tighten a couple bolts next to the radiator, as much as I can, "Umm, 5/6 crescent wrench, please." I learned how to fix up old cars from my mom, she was a wiz at all of this.
He grabs it and gives it to me. Jughead turns around, facing the wall.
"Thank you." I whisper. The next bolt is tougher to unscrew, but I manage it, "I sort of miss it. The stuff the Serpents do for fun." What I actually miss is him.
He gets up and faces me, "Just go ahead and say it, Y/N."
I've been trying to bring it up all day. "You said you weren't going to join them after they kick me out, Jug." I pause from what I'm doing and look at him.
"And you said you loved me, and then you dumped me, via Archie, which by the way, way worse than via text."
His words were hitting me like a car. Hard and damaging, "I'm sorry, Juggie. This won't make any sense, but I'm doing it to protect you. Betty told me something about.." I sigh with small tears forming in my eyes. I hear Betty, in my head, don't tell anyone, "The point is, I didn't want to and I wouldn't of if everything wasn't imploding."
He nods frustratingly, "Y/N, you did the one thing that could actually hurt me."
"Listen to me." I put my hand on his, and luckily he doesn't pull away, "I will explain everything to you, Jug. I will, and I need you to know I miss you so damn much."
The boy scoffs and turns away from me.
I begin to tighten stuff again until a thought popped into my head, "Jug?"
"What?" He asks bitterly.
"Do you still love me, or did I mess up that badly?" I move a little closer to him.
He thinks for a second, "Honestly, yes I do, but you really did mess up."
"Ok." I whisper back, "I'm gonna go check the tires." Reggie said something about how they are and I quote frickin shitty pieces of cheap crap.
Jughead gives me a small nod as I go to the back of the car. I check if the tires are full and Reggie is right, they are crap. I unscrew the 6 bolts on each tire but a shadow over my head makes me stop.
"Y/N?" The voice asks, "Can I ask you something?"
I stand up nervously facing Jughead, "Anything."
"Do you still love me as more than friends or do you just mean you miss me as a friend rather than a boyfriend?" He leans on the car patiently waiting my answer.
"Yes, I do still love you." My answer makes a small smirk appear on his face. We stay in our position for a couple seconds, staring at each other, slowly moving towards each other. I turn away from him, "I should get back to work. I have a race to get you through."
————
Race day, the most exciting day of the week for thousand of people all over the world, except for the ones in Riverdale. The Serpents have been rallied up from the possibility of losing their home.
I've been dead set on telling Jughead about what happened in the art room. The longer I don't tell him, the more it sounds like I'm trying to cover it up. To be honest, I would love to cover it up, but that would be worse if Jug or Betty found out.
I was told, by Betty, to wear something that would match with the Serpent's vibe. That should be easy, considering I was in the gang. I grab this outfit...
(I'm to lazy to describe it and you'll get a better visual also this with a leather jacket, not a Serpent one though.)
I left the Lodges, and when I arrived at the race, Ghoulies and Serpents were everywhere. The car Jug and I built was in the center of it all with him next to the car. I walk over to him as Tall Boy starts to yell, "All right! Who's ready race?"
Everybody cheers with him and gets prepared for it. I go over to Jughead to admit what happened. He crosses his arms when I approach him, "Before you get in the car, I want you to know something." He walks closer to me and the butterflies find their way back, "Y-you actually already know this but I love you so much. I'm not sure if I can stop." I bite my lip, chickening out, "Also remember, don't ride the clutch, and don't let it slip between gear shifts, okay?"
He smirks with a tiny nod, "You're an enigma, L/N." Jug gives my arm a small squeeze, then turning around, but it's not enough for me. I pull him into a hug.
The relief of feeling him in my arms again makes me sigh happily, "Don't die." I whisper into his ear, squeezing him tighter.
"I won't." He pulls away from me with shaky breathes, not ready to let go as well.
"Let's do this!" Tall Boy yells at everybody, "Drivers in your cars and get your cars on the road!"
I give Jughead a nod to reassure him and reluctantly make my way to Fred's truck with the crew sitting on the front of it. "Are you guys ready?"
"Yup!" Reggie holds up his drink, "You got this Jughead!"
The nerves make my stomach turn, "If I disappear at any point, I'll be behind some bushes getting sick."
Veronica pats my shoulder, "It'll be okay. The boys will return in one piece."
"Okay." I whisper. Cheryl steps up to the flag girl's spot and smiles. She holds her scarf up with anticipation. The Ghoulies' car lets out a low rumble as she drops her hands signaling the start.
The cars take off down the road as everybody runs up to the starting line for a better look, cheering them on. I bite my lip staring down the road waiting for the return of the boys. It seems like the seconds ticking by are hours longer than they should be.
They still do't return after minutes of impatiently waiting. All I want to do is take off down the road running to see if my boys are in one piece. The minutes drag on longer than I want.
I get off the hood of Fred's car as a guy runs over to everyone, "Everyone scatter! The cops are rounding up Ghoulies!"
The Ghoulies run in different directs yelling at each other on where to go. I tap my foot, impatiently, as the boys' car comes into view. The breathe that has been stuck inside my lungs leaks out slowly.
They pull up and immediately pop out. I run over to them as Jughead yells at everybody to get out of here, not caring about himself. Tall Boy pushes through people to get to Jug, "You called the cops?! You won't throw with the Ghoulies but you will with the cops? Where's the honor in that?"
He gently pushes Tall Boy out of his face, "Calm down, Tall Boy. You think I knew Keller was going to be there?"
"I called Keller." Archie tells us simply.
The raven haired boy turns to him with his jaw dropped, "What the hell, Archie! Did my dad tell you about this too?"
He shakes his head, "No, this was my idea to get rid of the Ghoulies and it worked! They get arrested for street racing, and now they're off the chessboard."
"For how long? One month? Three months? You know what they're gonna want on the other side?" Jug pushes Archie's shoulder harshly, "Your head on a stake! All of ours!" He backs away from his friend and over to me ushering me into the car with him.
I look at Archie getting into his dad's car, one less thing to worry about I guess.
Jug drives us away from the mess of people running everywhere. He runs his hands through his hair, worked up about everything.
"Jughead, calm down." I tell him.
"No! I can't, the Ghoulies are going to come after us in a couple of months harder than ever! It will be a blood bath!" He speeds up going well over the speed limit.
"Pull over." I instruct.
"No, Y/N, why would I pull over?"
I point to the speedometer, "Because your going one hundred miles per hour. We'll get killed if you don't listen to me!"
He slows down, "I'll slow down, but I'm driving." The frown on his face grows, "Can you distract me? Tell me about something."
(Sure thing Edward Cullen...)
"Umm," I think for a second, "I had to do community service."
He laughs, "What did you do?"
I smirk lightly, "Nothing. One of Veronica's old friends was in town so he had a small party. He brought some drugs and everyone but Betty and I took them. Then a night later, he drugged Cheryl and almost assaulted her."
"What?"
I nod, "I know."
Jughead turns towards me with a worried expression, "Did he do anything to you?"
"No." I frown, "Except asking to get my number."
Jealously overtakes him as he turns back to the road, "Did you say yes?"
"No, this was when we were still..together." I whisper sadly.
"Oh." He nods as an awkward silence fills the car. It stays quiet until he parks the car next to the Andrew's house, "Thanks for uh..helping with this race."
"Anytime." I grab my bag and sling it around my shoulders, "I'll see you soon?"
"Yeah.." he nods, "Soon." His eyes meet mine, and I can't look away. It's the worst being away from each other and Sweet Pea is confusing me along with my feelings. I decide to stop caring about everything for a second to just stare at him. He's so handsome. I can tell he's thinking the same as he smashes his lips against mine in a fiery passionate kiss.
Jug's hands rest on my cheeks, pulling me closer to him. I wrap my arms around his neck desperate to feel him close again. I end up half-way on the center-console. The kiss deepens as Jughead's hands slide down to my waist.
The way he kisses me is different than anything. I feel so alive and every touch is like a new flame. I push of his jacket wanting more, and he gladly lets me.
His hands return the action when my leather jacket slips off to the floor.
I wish air wasn't a problem to humans. We both pull away to get some breathe and recollect my thoughts. It is almost impossible to get him out of my head and even harder to even think about leaving him. I look down, unable to say anything.
He looks at me, breathing heavily, worry in his eyes, "I'm sorry if that overstepped a boundary I shouldn't have. I've just missed you so much and I-"
I cut him off with another long kiss, "Don't apologize for that." I whisper against his lips, "I've missed you too, and it will make sense soon. Only a couple days." Only a couple more days I repeat to myself.
————
My phone rings and flashes with Betty's contact. I leave my thoughts about Jughead's kisses and answer the phone, "Hey." I whisper.
"Hey. I got a call, Cheryl gave me the name." He says happily.
"Oh my god! Cheryl Bombshell for the win! Who was it?"
I can feel the mood drop, "An English teacher from Southside High."
"No!" I yell completely stunned, this guy has a perfect cover. A teacher, that Jughead probably had, "That's heavy."
"I know and I told the Hood to stop calling me or I would find him. I scared him a little I think." She tells me sounding proud of herself.
I realizing what I can, finally, "Does that mean?"
"Yes. Go get your man back."
"Thank you so much, Betty." I jump up off my bed, "I gotta go, see you tomorrow."
"Bye." She hangs up the phone.
I walk up the stairs and over to my jacket, slipping it on quickly. The car was back, meaning Archie was too. I drive over to Jug's trailer, and speed walk over to the door with the biggest smile. Then I knock loudly.
Jughead opens the door with a dopey smile, "Y/N? What are you doing here?"
"I can tell you why I had to do everything."
"Okay, yeah come in." He lets me in and then we sit down on the couch ready for the story, "So what happened?
I explain everything in full detail from the beginning. The calls. The breakup. The stupid reasons why.
"Wow.." he sighs, "That's a lot."
"I know."
He looks up at me, "Thank you for explaining."
I nod, "Yeah. So" I get a little nervous, "Are you mad at me or are we..?"
"Back together? Yes." He agrees happily, "I love you."
"I love you too." My smile is huge from ear to ear, but it slowly fades, "Can we talk about the Serpents?"
Jughead nods.
"Why did you join them after I asked you to not?"
A big sigh escapes his lips, "Survival at Southside High and to protect my dad while he's in jail."
"Okay." I whisper, "Can I see your tattoo?"
He chuckles, "Do you want to see the tattoo or me with my shirt off?"
I push his shoulder playfully, "I wanna see the tattoo...but also you without a shirt." He shakes his head with a smile with taking off his S t-shirt. I blush slightly and linger on his frame rather than the tattoo. My eyes find it on his forearm and it looks amazing, "Wow, who gave you this? Its better than mine."
"Toni."
I push the sad realization to the back of my mind, "That's cool." The snake is so well drawn I can't help myself from touching it. I trace the serpent and the words with my fingers remembering mine.
"Can I see yours now?" Jug asks.
I nervously laugh, "Not right now."
"Why?"
"Its in a," I think for a second to find the words, "Different spot than yours."
Jughead laughs loudly, "Of course it is, but can you at least tell me where?"
"Nope. You'll find out sooner or later," I tell him with a small yawn. It's gotten late since the race, "Can I spend the night with you?" I've yearned to stay with him at the trailer for days.
He smiles, "Yes. Come on, you can wear one of my shirts. I know you like them."
I smile back, "I do."
"Good."
————
The next morning, we decide to stay in bed all day with each other. He holds me close to him, giving me small kisses every couple minutes.
I've decided to leave what happened with Sweet Pea alone. It's not my place to tell Betty, he can say something if he wants. Besides, nothing exactly happened, not even a kiss, we just got lost in the moment.
I got up and made us breakfast because, no surprise, he was hungry. The paper was sitting on the counter and I read it. 24 hours to prove we aren't sinners, that's morbid, and the Sugar Man is officially dead. The news was shocking and it got me thinking about the Blackhood's identity. We eat quickly then return back to the bed.
"I thought we finally outsmarted him, Jug, the Black Hood." I whisper, "By having Mr.Phillip arrested, I thought we were saving his life, but instead.."
Jug rubs my arm, "Hey, Y/N." I look up at him sadly, "Phillips didn't deserve what happened to him, but he was a high school teacher dealing drugs. I mean, Y/N if it-"
"And how the hell did the Black Hood even get into the Sheriff's Station?" I cut him off, thinking hard. Who could this be? A man with access to the station twenty four hours a day. Only one man does, but no way, "I mean, unless he.."
"What?" Jug pulls me closer to him with an amused smile, "What is it, Poirot?" He jokes.
I am too lost in thought to laugh. Keller has access to the station 24 hours a day, and considering a high school teacher was dealing, it could be him. "Nothing. No. It's too crazy." I sigh as Jug's phone rings.
He rolls out of bed with a grunt and lays back down, "Hello?" The expression on his face is panicky, like something bad is about to happen. Jug gets up and walks over to the door talking to the person.
"Jug?" I sit up in bed giving him a look, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." His phone gets tossed onto the bed, "I have to go meet someone at Pops, Serpent thing."
Serpent business, somethings making me wish I got the call and he didn't, "Can I come with?" I ask hopefully.
"Uh no." He gets a shirt back on and his beanie, "I have some stuff to do that only I have to do."
That's really suspicious, "Ok. Will you be back soon or,"
"It will probably take a while, why don't you go see what Veronica and Betty are up to? I'm sure they are ready for another team up because of that letter." His soft lips give me a small kiss, "But, I will see you really soon. Bye"
"Bye."
After laying in Jug's bed for a while, I get some jeans I left here a while ago (Not like that, just extra change of clothes). I keep Jug's shirt on, and honestly I am stealing this thing.
Turns out Betty and Veronica were ready for another team up. Betty even had the same theory as me, but I am not completely sold on it yet. I know our town is darkly twisted, but I've know the Sheriff for years, being friends with Kevin.
Betty splits up with Veronica and I, to prove her theory as I go to prove Ronnie's theory, he is having an affair.
She got Kevin to agree to a sleepover at his house. That will be our time to investigate.
---------
"And if you roll a six, you can take over the Kingdom of Theodore," Kevin explains. His time has been spent on an odd board game that he plays all the time.
I didn't listen to half of it, but I continue to act interested for the sake of Kevin, "That's interesting."
"It is," Ronnie agrees. Her phone rings, and she covers it up so Kevin can't hear it, "I am going to go get a bevvy. You want anything?"
"A glass of milk would be great."
I stand up, "I'll help." We leave the room and Ronnie answers the phone on speaker, "Betty?"
"You're having a sleepover at Kevin's? Without me guys? In the middle of an investigation?" She asks.
Veronica walks down the stares with me behind her, "This isn't an investigation, okay? This is me helping a friend deal with his gather's infidelities."
"Oh, so you're there snooping to prove that Sheriff Keller's having an affair?"
I nod, "That's exactly what we're doing."
"Can you please add looking for evidence that suggests Sheriff Keller's the Black Hood to your to-do list? I'd start in the home office."
"Sure," Veronica goes over to the door and tries to open it, "Its locked. And, no, I don't have any bobby pins."
Betty scoffs, "Y/N do you have a bobby pin?"
I laugh, "In what world do I carry bobby pins around?"
"Okay true, check the basement."
Veronica sighs, "Yeah, I'm sure that's where he keeps all his spare hoods." She opens the door and sees how creepy it is, "No way. I am not going down there."
"I will," I walk down the stairs slowly, looking at he backroom that Kevin used to hide in to scare me, a habit now. When I get to the bottom of the steps, I see the Sheriff working out. V makes her way down, and quickly hanging up on Betty.
He gets off a bench, "Oh, Y/N. What can I do for you?" Intruding on his workout makes it awkward, especially because he has no shirt.
"Hey, Mr.Keller. Veronica and I were looking for juice or diet soda or something. The fridge in the kitchen is empty and we are thirsty."
The Sheriff opens a fridge, "Well, there's some here, I think," He opens a couple bottles and gives them to us, "There you are."
"Thanks," We both take a sip of the sodas, "I didn't know you worked out so much, Mr.Keller. I mean, Archie Andrews, watch your back." Ronnie laughs.
He shakes his head, "I don't do it for vanity. I do it for discipline and to push my limits."
I take another drink, "I'm sure that comes in handy on the job."
"Yeah."
Ronnie decides to push him a bit, "Kevin mentioned things have been stressful lately, with the Black Hood and everything. It must get super hard. With all the pressure, without Mrs.Keller. Where is she stationed, again?"
"Bahrain. Uh, some Naval Base there," He tells her.
She puts her hand on her hip while leaning into the fridge, "That can't be easy. How do you..cope?"
"N/N, Veronica?" Kevin calls from the stairs. He walks down half the stairs sipping on his glass of milk, "What are you two doing down here?"
"Hey, pal." His dad greets.
I hold up my soda, "Drinks. Well it was nice to see you, Sheriff, but we should get going, Kevin is showing us how to play a game."
"Yeah, good to see you too." He moves back to his workout and we go back to Kevin's room.
"Okay," Kevin gives us a mischievous smile, "Time for the best part of sleepovers! Gossip and truth or dare."
I laugh, "Sure."
"Ooh I can get behind a game of truth or dare." Ronnie says, "Who's asking first?"
Kevin's hand shoots up, "Me! Y/N truth or dare?"
————
Ronnie and I have been pretending to sleep for hours, but if nothing happens soon I'm actually going to sleep. It's 2 a.m. and I don't sleep as it is. Lucky, Kevin is already asleep next to me, on the floor.
The front door shuts loudly. I jump out of my sleeping bag and run over to the window with V, "Where's he going?" I ask as Mr.Keller gets into his car and drives away.
————
"We saw Kevin's dad sneaking out in the middle of the night, and he came home, like, at 4:00 am." Veronica tells Betty.
"Look." She holds up the paper with today's headline, drug addict found dead on Southside railroad tracks, "A Jingle-Jangle addict's body was found by the tracks this morning."
I shake my head, "It says here this guy was hit and killed by a train."
"Yeah, because he was pushed in front of it by Sheriff Keller."
Ronnie hums, "Or he stumbled into its path."
"No, think about all the locked doors in his house. Why?" Betty says.
"Because he's a private person. Look, Betty, let's not confuse wanting a solution to this mystery with actually having one, okay? This is Kevin's father we're talking about."
————
Betty calls me again, later, to tell me about the plan. Both of them aren't giving up on their theories, so we're going to follow the Sheriff.
They pick me up in the Cooper's old car and we go to the Keller's to wait for him to leave. It takes a while, but about 2 milkshakes later, he pulls away from the house. Betty drives behind the Sheriff slowly while taking a couple different streets to look discrete. He pulls into the mini hotel parking and walks to a room.
Betty panics, "He's about to do something terrible. His next victim could be in that room right now!"
"Should we call the cops?" Ronnie asks.
I shake my head, "Ronnie, he is the cops."
Betty runs out and sneaks behind a tree, investigating him. I follow her close behind as the Sheriff knocks. The door opens and..the mayor pops out. The mayor?
She gives him a kiss and pulls him inside.
I look away from them, "It's so wrong to watch this. Ronnie your right and Betty your not, can we go now?"
Betty scoff, "Fine. Can we go to Pops?"
"Yes." V replies quietly.
————
"I'm in shock!" I declare while taking a drink of my milkshake, "Crazy. It's all crazy, like usual."
Veronica shakes her head lazily, "Me too. My women's intuition told me Sheriff Keller was having an affair, but with Mayor McCoy?"
"Oh, God. Riverdale's list of sinners keeps expanding." Betty groans.
The bell rings. Jughead and Archie walk through the door together with very weird looks, "Hey, look, it's the boys. Shall we ask to join them?" Ronnie requests then looks a little closer, "On second thought, it looks like they're having an intense broment."
Betty changes the subject quickly, "Veronica, Y/N? How are we gonna tell Kevin about this?"
"I dont think we do."
"Yeah, Y/N's right." Veronica whispers, "I think this is one of those secrets we keep. For Kevin's sake. Let him keep thinking his dad's a good guy."
"Fine." Betts looks at her watch, "It's really late, almost morning. Do you guys need a ride?"
"No it's okay." I get out of the booth as Pop's phone rings. I grab my jacket, putting it on.
Pop answer it then walks towards the booth's like he's making an announcement, "That was him on the phone. The Black Hood."
I stop in my tracks, "No." I whisper.
"He says that we've failed his test. That we're all sinners. That the reckoning is upon us."
