Chapter 3✔︎
Y/N PoV
"It's another win for the bad guys. No one was there. His entire staff quit. He says he's not sure how long he'll be able to keep the doors open maybe not even a week." Jughead tells us. He went to Pops earlier, and he got the bad news, no more diner.
Archie nods, "It's because of what happened to my dad. People are freaking out. And I gotta be honest, guys. I don't see myself going back anytime soon."
"Delivery only." I purse my lips together.
"Wait, I'm sorry am I hearing acceptance?" Betty asks, "I'm not letting one psychopath with a gun dictate what happens to our place. Jug, you went crazy trying to save the drive-in." She puts her hand on Jughead's.
He gives her a glance and pulls his hand away, "I can't take on any more social issues right now. My hands are full."
"True, and as much as I hate helping my dad, the lawyers are making me," I tell them, avoiding looking at Betty. She has been flirting so much with Jug lately, I don't wanna engage with her, at all.
"With your dads, of course. And they should be your priorities." She looks around the table thinking, "I'll take point on helping Pop Tate."
"I'll help, too, Betty. Hey, anything to get me away from my parents, I'm in." Veronica volunteers.
"Sorry to say, Ronnie, but I agree," I sigh, "They aren't my favorite people to be around."
Veronica nods.
"Another B and V team-up. They should really make a video game about you guys with Y/N in it as well." Jughead grabs his bag, "We gotta jet, Y/N. We're off to meet our dads' court-appointed joke of lawyers at the sheriff's station."
Archie picks up his phone quickly, "I'm gonna come with you too. I gotta drop off some flyers for Sheriff Keller."
I get up out of the bench, and the boys follow. We walk away with short goodbyes from B and V. The Sheriff's station is down the road from our school, we walk.
"I have an idea." Jughead holds my hand while walking, "What if you were to join the art club, Y/N? Give you time to be away from the Lodges."
Archie chuckles to himself, "Y/N in a club? That's something I'd like to see."
I roll my eyes at him, "Since when does Riverdale high have an art club?"
"Since forever I guess." Jughead tells me, "I looked into it, after I saw your sketch book."
The station nears closer, but I stop and cross my arms, "You looked through my sketch book?"
"I may have had a small peek."
Archie smiles, "Me too."
I groan, "You guys have so respect for my personal property."
"Sorry, baby." Jughead says.
"I'm not that sorry." Archie glances at Jughead, "Don't call her baby, it's cringey."
We laugh at him, and continue on to the station.
After waiting for a long time, two nicely dressed men introduce themselves as our dads' lawyers. They don't say much about the case, except for Jughead and I need to talk to our dads about deals.
I expected to be in a room together, because last time we were, but we weren't. The lawyers tell us we are supposed to go to different rooms, while they talk to some officers. I don't want to be in a room with my father, alone.
Jughead doesn't mind my idea of me joining him and FP in there room. The both of us make our way towards the meeting room.
FP sits on the opposite side of the table as us in handcuffs. He doesn't say anything until the lawyer comes back in, and begins to review the case. The man doesn't say any thing about the deal, or important stuff.
Jug begins to get inpatient, "Let's talk about the damn deal."
"First, to review the charges you're facing, arson, destruction of evidence, making a false confession, obstructing justice, and not to mention this whole nasty mess of dumping a dead kid into the river."
"I know what I did." FP confirms, "What's the deal? What are they offering."
"You're gonna want to take it." The lawyer slides a big stack of papers over to FP, "I'm telling you, I've been doing this a long time. It's a strong deal."
Jughead looks at the lawyer with anger evident in his eyes, "How many damn years?"
"Twenty."

Betty gets up from her chair and begins to pace around us, "We can let the terrorists win!" She stops, "We need to host an event at Pop's that reminds the town of simpler times. Like, a throwback to when the shoppe first opened its doors."
"Betty, I like a good milkshake as much as any girl, and Pop's puts Serendipity 3's to shame. But, why this hill to die on?" Ronnie asks.
I begin to grow confused on the topic. Betty told me to meet here, but said this had nothing to do with Pops.
She thinks for a second, but eventually a happy smile appears, "Orange freezes with my mom and Polly after ballet. Chicken noodle soup with my dad after ice-skating. Grilled cheeses with Archie on the last day of summer vacation. It's where I met you for the first time V." She turns towards Kevin, "It's where u met you for the first time. Also, Jug..and Y/N," she adds on quickly, "You guys may lose your dads, but maybe I can save this one place for them, for all of us."
"Correction, I'm not losing him. I'm gaining space between us." I smile.
"Sorry." She whispers.
A knock comes from the door. Veronica's dad walks in with a bouquet of beautiful yellow flowers, "Hey. Veronica. May I speak to you?"
"Daddy?" Ronnie asks.
"Daddy?" Kevin and Betty repeat back.
I nod with a small smirk, "Daddy."
"I guess I'll see you guys at lunch?" Veronica leaves the room quickly, giving Kevin no chance to ask any questions.
Kevin leaves the room, to go find where Veronica is, and possible spy on them. What else is new?
"Well, that was..weird."
"That's Hiram for ya," I sit down in one of the office chairs, "So, why did you tell me to meet here Betty?"
"Jughead and I have decided that The Blue and Gold needs more variety. He mentioned how good of an artist you are, and that got us thinking. We are going to highlight a couple, different, artists each week in the paper." She tells me.
I shake my head, "I know where this is going, and no way. I'm not even in the art club."
"Okay, but hear me out. You are an amazing artist, and I know you love it. This could be a head start, for a career in art."
"Will I get complete freedom?" I ask.
She nods,"Yes, but I will have to look at it to make sure it's appropriate. Weatherbee has some rules on what can and can't be printed."
I sigh, "Fine. I guess art is something I can pursue."
"Great! I would love to have your first masterpiece in by Thursday." She claps.
'Yay..more stress', I think.
**Time Skip**
"Your Honor, I speak for myself and my mother when I say we forgive FP Jones for the part he played in covering up my brother's murder." Cheryl looks down at the table sadly, "And we humbly ask the court for leniency."
I glance at Jughead with confusion. Cheryl Blossom forgiving this? The girl who will make peoples like literal hell is forgiving someone apart of her brother's murder. Wow, bombshell isn't so mean after all.
"FP's guilt has been blown out of proportion to satiate what my father's suicide denied us. Closure."
The judge leans over towards her, "As much as I sympathize, I can't ignore the quality of Mr.Jones' crimes. There were no extending circumstances."
Cheryl looks towards Betty. She quickly blurts out, "My father threatened him. I overheard them talking in Daddy's study. Daddy said he would hurt Jughead if FP didn't comply. Is that extenuating enough?"
I am completely shocked. "What the-"
"In light of these revelations, I suggest we take a step back and reevaluate certain aspects of the case. At which time, we will revisit the sentencing." The judge grabs his gavel, "Adjourned."
Jughead instantly gets out of his chair, and taps his dad on his shoulder.
"Is that a win?" FP asks.
"It's a delay. So, yeah." He pulls his dad in for a hug. They don't let go of each other for a minute, until Jughead pulls away from him.
The officers don't let FP say anything else. They put him in handcuffs, and lead him into a different room.
I give Jughead a big smile, and a peck and the lips, "Finally, a win for the home team."
"Yeah, finally."
