Chapter 1✔︎
Y/N PoV
Everything was supposed to be okay.
And it was, the morning after the Jubilee. I get to wake up in the arms of the boy who loves me, and only me.
I feel his soft lips being pressed against my forehead. It makes me smile as I open my eyes, "Good morning."
"Good Morning." Jughead whispers back, "Did you sleep well?"
"Cuddled up with you? Yes."
"I'm glad." He gives me a long kiss on the lips, "I love you."
"I love you, too."
He smiles, "Say it again. I love when you say it."
I kiss his jaw, biting down gently, "I. Love. You." I tell him in between kisses. My phone interrupts me.
Jughead sighs and lays his head back down, "Why couldn't they wait five minutes?"
"It's Archie, he can wait." I put my phone down and cuddle up against him. Then my phone rings again so I pick it up, "Could you stop? I'm busy."
His voice cracks on the other side of the line, "Dad's been shot."
"W-what do you mean? Are you pranking me?" I ask quietly. He constantly tries pranks me and it's become hard to believe him sometimes.
"It's not a prank." Archie cries, "You need to get to the hospital now. H-he.."
I begin to cry, "He what, Archie?"
"J-just get here as s-soon as possible." He hangs up as I break down into sobs.
Jughead pulls me into his arms to comfort me, "Whats going on, baby?"
"F-Fred...Fred was, he was shot." I cry into his chest remembering all the lovely memories I've had of Fred.
Adopting me as his own.
Gone
Fighting for me when no one else did.
Gone
Making sure I was okay every step of my life.
Gone
Gone, it's all gone. I can't bear the thought of him dying, what if Archie told me to come to say goodbye? What if that's the last time I'll see him?
"Y/N?" Jughead interrupts, "We should get to the hospital, Archie needs you."
I continue to cry but I'm able to get out a simple, "Okay." I get out of bed and put on my shirt that laid forgotten on the floor.
Jughead does the same as me. He pulls me into a tight hug allowing me to wrap my legs around him. I don't want to walk or do anything anymore.
I get carried to a tarp. "What's this?"
"My dads motorcycle. There's no other way to get there."
He sets me down on the seat and puts a helmet on me, "No one else is getting hurt today." I hear him mutter while sitting down in front of me, "Hold on."
I hold onto him, tightly.
On the way there, the thoughts of losing Fred weighs heavily on me. I squeeze him and choke out through my tears, "What happens if Fred doesn't-"
He cuts me off, "Don't say that. He will make it. Fred's a fighter."
Once he pulls into the hospital, I jump off the bike and practically rip the helmet off. I grab Jughead's hand. We run into the hospital meeting up with Betty and Veronica on our way to Archie.
Archie paces in the waiting room staring at the floor. His jacket is covered in our dads blood and his pants are no different. It makes my tears fall heavier.
"Arch?" Betty tries to get his attention away from the floor.
Veronica rushes towards him, "God." She engulfs him into a hug. The rest of us, follow her, pulling him into a group hug. We stay there for a while, comforting Archie.
I'm the first one to pull away to wipe my tears away, "Archie? What happened?"
He looks at me with a sad expression, "Can we sit down, first?"
"Yeah, for sure." Ronnie leads us to five empty seats. I sit on the opposite side of Jughead and Archie.
"So, at Pops, I came out of the bathroom and there was this man, thief. Wearing this hood, with a gun on Pop Tate, and then he pointed it at our dad and he fired." He shakes his head, "And then he..."
"And then he what?" Veronica presses.
"...and then he bolted. Then I was holding our dad, Pop Tate called an ambulance and it didn't come so I drove here and I don't know maybe I should've waited, maybe I made it worse." He sighs and bites his lip.
Jughead puts his arm on his shoulder, "No, dude, are you kidding me? You saved your dad's life. First Cheryl, and now your dad. If you keep this up, you're gonna need a superhero name. Like Pureheart the Powerful." He smiles and sits back.
Alice walks over to us with a rare sympathetic smile, "There isn't any new information. Your dad's in surgery. He's gonna be there for a while."
"Uh, Archie. Have you spoken to your mother about any of this yet?" Hermione leans down.
"No. No, I haven't called her. I'll be right back." Archie walks down the hall, away from us.
Alice sighs and looks at me through narrow eyes.
"What?" I furrow my eyebrows.
"Mom! Do not start this!"
I frown, "Start what?"
"Well, of course, I can't help but wonder if your Southside associates had anything to do with what happened to Fred." Alice gets shushed by her husband.
I scoff, "Unbelievable. At least you can't accuse FP of being the shooter, considering he's in jail."
"What about your dad, Y/N? Can I get a quote?" She answers.
"I don't give a shit about him! He's in jail too so stop this nonsense," I stand up, "Also you better not threaten the Serpents, they are my people."
Veronica shifts in her chair, "Oh, my god. I can't handle this."
I sit back down to think about this more clearly, it could be a Serpent. An angry one. A Serpent who is going crazy possibly? It doesn't make any sense but in Riverdale nothing makes sense.
Archie comes back and stands next to the parents, "My moms coming on the next flight."
"Good." Ronnie smiles.
I get up, "Archie?"
"Yeah, Y/N?"
A sigh escapes me, "I love you and I love your dad-"
"Our dad, Y/N." He pulls me into a long hug.
I return it with a nod, "Whatever happens, good or bad, I'm here for you and dad. You guys are my real family."
Me gives me a sad smile.
Sheriff Keller enters the waiting room with heavy footsteps. He walks over to Archie and I, "How's your dad doing?"
"He's still in surgery." I tell him.
He nods, "Archie, I know this is a hell of a time for you, but perhaps we could go somewhere and talk about what happened."
"Is it cool if I tag along?" Jughead asks.
I look at him with my eyebrows furrowed, "What?" This is something he shouldn't mess with.
"Actually, if you don't mind-"
Archie cuts off Keller, "Yeah, that'd be great, Jug."
"Okay then, follow me." The Sheriff leads Archie and Jughead away from us.
I sit back down in the uncomfortable chairs with Betty and Ronnie beside me, "Hey, can I talk to you guys about something?"
"Of course V." Betty smiles.
"What's up?"
Veronica sighs, "There are certain things no one does better than Veronica Lodge. Makeovers, party planning, dance-offs, dropping vintage bon mots as if they were bonbons."
Betty giggles at her.
I think for a second,"I can confirm the makeovers but what the heck is a bonbon and whatever else you said?"
"I'll explain it later. Conversely, there are things that I'm not good at. Grief, bedside vigils, comforting boyfriends." Ronnie says slowly with her head down.
Betty shakes her head,"Okay, well, that's the old Veronica talking."
"Old Veronica would've bolted by now, but new Veronica doesn't want to let Archie down." Ronnie taps her foot on the floor in an annoying pattern.
"And you won't," I put my hand on hers, "I know, from experience these last few weeks, that comforting boy-"
Betty looks over at the door, ignoring me,"They're back."
Jughead and Archie exchange a few words quietly. After seconds, Jughead leaves the hospital with a very fast pace, it's weird and I wish he didn't go.
A doctor comes over to Archie with a small grin, "Archie Andrews? I'm Steven Masters. I'm your father's doctor."
I jump out of my chair and rush over to them, "How is he?" Everyone here for Fred, swarms around us awaiting for answers.
He puts his hands on his hips,"Well, we got the bullet out. And we've stopped the internal bleeding. But what's most worrisome is, he's not breathing on his own yet."
"I need to see him." Archie demands.
"And you will, Mr.Andrews. As soon as we've got him set in a room, you'll be able to sit with him. Should be an hour or two at most." The doctor tells him.
I roll my eyes,"And until then, what is he supposed to do? Nothing? This is an Andrew he's gonna do something."
"Maybe," Veronica steps forward, "Maybe you should go home and get changed."
Archie crosses his arms angrily, "No I'm not leaving."
"No, Archie, wait. Veronica's right." Betty sighs.
A nurse, behind the doctor, holds out a big bag,"Here are your dad's clothes and personal belongings. Everything he had on him."
"Okay, well, yet another reason to go. You can get your dad a change of clothes. Veronica will go with you. Right V?"
I nod slowly, "And I guess the rest of us will hold the fort down here. If there is any updates, I'll call you right away."
Archie grabs the bag, "Fine."
"Lets go, Archiekins." Veronica loops her arm around his, and leave.
I'm left sitting in the hospital chairs with my great pal, Betty. We don't say anything to each other. Time passes by without any relief until Kevin comes in with a big smile and coffee, "Who wants coffee?" He sets the drinks down on a table.
I grab one as Betty does the same, "Thanks Kev."
"It's no problem." Kevin gives me a smug smile, "So..."
"So...?" I take a drink but burn my tongue.
Kevin sighs,"Of course all any of us can think about is Mr.Andrews. But if we weren't so focused on his well being, I would be asking if you and-"
"We didn't. Jughead and I didn't do it," I set my coffee down, "If that's what your asking."
The blonde jerk bites her lip to hold back a big smile in victory of still being able to claim him.
Kevin gasps,"But wait! Like no,"
I take a deep breathe, "He told me he loved me."
Kevin practically squeals,"Wait what! Yes! This is great news! Jughead Jones said I love you? Mr.I'm weird, I'm a weirdo?"
"And I told him I love him back." I smile back.
"Well, this is amazing!" Kevin states happily.
"Are you sure you love him though?" Betty asks.
I look at her with a death glare,"Excuse me?"
"I just wanted to know."
"I do, a lot." I cross my arms and sit back in my chair.
Kevin scoffs, "Can we not start fighting? What's in the past can stay there please."
"Okay sure." I sigh.
"Whatever." Betty tells us.
I begin to smile,"On a better note, I am formerly inviting you both to a small gathering. I was planning for it to be sooner but since Fred's in the hospital, I'm waiting for him to wake up." The idea has been tossed around my brain for quite sometime, it would help me be happier given the circumstances.
"Ooh a party! I'm in." Kevin squeals.
I shake my head,"It's not a party. I don't do parties, it's a sleepover. And because I'm living with Veronica starting today, I asked her mom, she doesn't care. Archie and Juggie are coming."
"Fun, sleepover with the boys. I know we are waiting for Fred to wake up but what if it happens sooner than later? It could cheer Archie up." Betty suggests.
Kevin frowns, "Archie's not gonna cheer up until his dad is awake."
I nod, "One last thing, that you might hate. My other friends are coming."
They get confused, "You have other friends?" Kevin asks.
"Yes," I sigh, "Like my Serpent friends."
Betty's jaw drops, "What? You want us to meet them?"
"Yes and because Jughead's a semi-Serpent-"
Kevin puts his hand up to stop me from speaking, "Jughead is a Serpent? When did this happen?"
I exhale loudly, "Last night, after saying we love each other..things got complicated."
"Okay, weird." Betty tells us.
"Yes, very weird, they got him a jacket so my boyfriend is kind of a Serpent now which is, to me, amazing."
Kevin shakes his head, "Y/N no! No way! I mean, did you learn nothing from me and Joaquin?"
"Kevin, I'm a Serpent and Joaquin was..nice," he begins to interrupt me so I get louder, "But, not all Serpent dump bodies in rivers. The ones your gonna meet are good."
Betty sighs, "Really?"
"Yes really," I smirk, "You've probably heard me talking about a charming Serpent named Sweet Pea, right? He is-"
Kevin gasps, "I swear if your about to say your cheating on Jughead,"
I laugh,"No no! Oh god no, all I'm saying is, Betty might want to meet him? Get to know him a bit? He's single you know." I tell her.
"I'll meet him but dating is out of the question." She purses her lips together.
"Oh yeah, forgot about mama Cooper." I mutter.
Kevin looks away from us to the hallway, "Oh my god." I follow his gaze and see Cheryl, in her white dress, slowly walking after a gurney.
"What'd she do now?" I get up, along with my friends, and run over to her making my stitches hurt a bit more than they have been, "Cheryl, what's going on?" I ask.
She seems taken back by our concern, "Oh, you haven't heard? There was a terrible fire at Thornhill last night. I might've perished if not for Mommy's heroics," we look at her with shocked expressions as she continues, "It was awful."
"Oh my god! Is this the apocalypse?" Kevin asks.
Cheryl shakes her head,"After my ordeal, at Sweetwater River, I was asleep when the fire started. They think it was a breeze knocking over a lit candle catching the curtains. Mommy got home from the Jubilee and rushed headlong into the blaze, risking her life to save me. Unfortunately, she suffered third-degree burns and acute smoke inhalation." Her weird expression turns into a smile, "What are you three doing here?"
I look down at the ground, "Fred..was shot."
Cheryl gasps, "How awful!"
"Yeah." Betty whispers sadly.
"Well, I should go check on Mother," the red head smiles brighter, "Toodles!" She spins on her heal and begins down the hall.
I run after her, "Cheryl wait, where's my jacket?"
She faces me with an eye roll,"The filthy thing is at Veronica's. She told me to leave it there because your coming there tonight or something."
I nod, "Thanks."
Cheryl frowns, "I'm sorry, I should be thanking you, thank you for saving me. It was very nice of you."
"Yeah sure I guess. In exchange, would you stop calling my boyfriend names?"
"Fine." She walks down the hall into a room without arguing, a first.
The hallway clears out and I am left alone. I sigh because everything was supposed to be okay, but it isn't.

I didn't know how to end this. Also this wasn't my best work but I'm busy and I'm not sure how to start things!
Thanks for reading!
