The cafeteria was loud. She didn't like that. The sounds echoed off of the walls and sent a ringing into your ears. When she stepped out of the line with just a roll and a milk she looked around as per usual.
With Steve graduated, Billy gone, Max unfound, Lucas on the basketball team, and Dustin with Mike at the "freak" table. She had nowhere to sit. She figured Dustin wouldn't want her to invade on their lunch conversation of Dungeons and Dragons.
So like everyday she stood scanning the room for place to sit. But, it was when she noticed Chrissy was waving her over after Eddie's lunch room fiasco she found somewhere nice and not on the floor like Monday.
"Hi..." she whispered, sitting down beside Chrissy. She received a smile in return. Something was off about it though. It seemed forced and as if there was worry emitting off of the cheerleader.
"Is something wrong?" Gracie asked the girl.
"Have you ever had this feeling- y-you weren't alone even when you were?" The blonde stuttered, eyes switching back from the floor and Gracie.
"To be quite honest... I have. Why? Are you hearing things? Seeing things?" Her eyes went wide- she brought her gaze up to Gracie with small fear behind her eyes.
Was it that obvious? "How did you know?" She gulped eyeing everyone at the table, making sure they didn't intrude on the conversation. "I used to hear these things after-after my dad and Billy, you know..."
Chrissy nodded along in understanding. She picked at the peeling of her cuticles, leaning closer to her and whispered, "How'd you make it stop?"
"Uh, drugs. It helped me and after a while I just stopped seeing it all together." Gracie informed her.
"W-Where'd you get them? Do you know someone who sells? Please, Gracie. I don't need them now but later."
She pleaded, desperate to get rid of the visions and voices in her head.
Gracie's eyes traveled across the lunchroom to where she saw Eddie talking with Mike and Dustin who were stood with him. "I know someone."
She slowly rose from her seat and strutted over to his table.
"What the fu...?" Dustin trailed, his eyes locked on his old babysitter coming over to them.
"Is she coming over here? Do I look okay? I haven't spoken to her in like a month, what do I say?" He began to freak out, hand up to his mouth as he breathed into his making sure his breath was okay.
Eddie pinched his side with a tight lipped smile, "Calm down, Henderson."
When she stopped in front of them they all had fake smiles full of nerves and eyes wider than saucers.
"Hi Dusty! Michael." Dustin smiled wildly beginning to bounce on the tips of his toes. "Hey! Gracie!" He went in for a hug which she quickly gave before her full attention was on Eddie.
"Can I uh talk you, like now?" Mike and Dustin's face grew to become bewildered, the two making sly eye contact. "Sure..."
She gripped his wrist, leading him over to the wall near his table. "I need you to do me a big favor." He smirked stepping closer to her. So close she could feel his breath hit her cheek.
"Oh, yeah? What kind of favor?" He brought his hand up to her cheek, stroking it slightly out of view from the rest of the club.
His fingers played with a strand of hair, moving it out of the way letting his rings slide against her skin. If there was one thing Eddie loved; it was flirting with Gracie Hopper.
"Do you have any drugs?" Eddie's eyes grew wide, nearly forced to lean against the wall for support. He dropped his hand from her face, letting it slowly fall back down to his side.
"I thought you stopped doing drugs?" He sounded disappointed.
Gracie hated that. She hated when people began to grow disappointed in her for her actions but she had great reasons.
"It's not for me it's for a friend." From the look on his face he didn't seem convinced. Eddie was worried in fact.
She stopped doing drugs a few weeks after their fling started. At least he thought so, she's making him question it all over again.
"I promise, Eddie. She's seeing stuff, hearing things. She needs something by tonight. Eddie, I'm begging you." He didn't want to accept this 'favor' as part of him didn't believe her.
But the other half? Totally smitten and would do anything she said, wanted, needed, asked for, anything.
All because Gracie Hopper had him completely and utterly wrapped around her little pinky finger.
"All right, after the laundry basket game tonight... you two meet me at my van. I'll take you home afterwards, so don't worry about that." Gracie smiled brightly at him. She was glad she was helping Chrissy even if it did involve drugs.
She just didn't know what she was going to tell Steve when she came home later than usual. She hated lying. But, what she hated even more were excuses.
"Okay, okay. Thank you, Eddie." She patted his shoulder before walking back towards Chrissy's table.
"Dude, why the hell were you talking to Dustin's babysitter?" Mike questioned him. "Ex-babysitter." Dustin corrected him but was waved off.
Eddie ignored them. Eyes focused heavily on her retreating form. Watching as she smile with Chrissy and how her eyes reconnected with his across the busy room.
He loved the attention she gave him.
Gracie could feel his eyes on her body when she was walking back. She could see him him out of the corner of her eye when she greeted Chrissy.
Her eyes trailed the room to find his and she loved the way he looks at her. His eyes were always filled with emotion. She loved it.
She loved the attention he gave her.
