The vibrations of the car made her nose irritate slightly as her head leaned against the window of the back seat. She brought her hand up to rub it slightly and then adjusted the volume on her walkman to blockout the talk of Steve and boobies.
Stevie Nicks played on loop throughout her headphones, her lips moving to the words of edge of seventeen. "Just like the white winged dove." She whispered along with Stevie causing Steve to turn his attention to her.
Gracie couldn't hear him shout her name whilst trying to focus on road. Her body fell against the window as the cat swerved in the empty road. She pushed her headphones down her head looking towards Steve with wide eyes.
"What the hell?! Can you even drive?" Steve chuckled out playing a hand through his styled hair. "Gray- Gracie, tell Robin that Vickie likes boobies." He motioned towards his front where his chest was.
"Vickie likes boobies." She voiced with a straight face slapping Robin lightly on the shoulder. Her eyes trailed to Steve who was smirking to himself looking back to her in the rearview mirror. "Steve, please learn to drive."
She turned back to the window pulling her headphones back on when she felt her nose running. Gracie brought her hand up to her nostrils wiping her finger against her nose and pulling it back to find blood instead of snot.
Quickly, she wiped it off against the inside of her black t-shirt in hopes they didn't see. She didn't want people to go thinking she was weird again or worrying about something other than her mental health.
There was only one person who made her feel normal and he was the freak of the school. The two had never talked throughout the school days minus a few times but it wouldn't matter if they had.
Even though Gracie was one of the most beloved people at Hawkins some kids still labeled her as the weirdo since the mall incident. She didn't want him to have to go through more bullying because he was associated with the weirdo.
The car drove into the parking lot along with the buses and other students. "Hey! Wait for me!" Robin quickly got out grabbing her band gear as she saw one of her friends in the distance. Gracie opened the door and stepped out. She went to walk past the drivers side when a hand grabbed her wrist.
She nearly flinched away but saw the hand was connected to Steve and relaxed. "Hey, if anyone says anything to you about them or calls you names; you know you can came to me right? I'll teach them a lesson or tell them off." He saw her nose scrunch a bit which was a tell sign she was about to roll her eyes.
"Grace! Im being serious here. Just promise me you'll tell me." Her eyes glanced to the buses seeing Max step off of one. "Um, yeah. But, Steve- you know these kids don't mean it. They just think it's all a joke even though I know it's not, to me at least. I just block them out anyway."
She heard Max call her over as she stood on the sidewalk waiting for her like usual. "Look... I have to go. But, I'm good, okay?" She gave him a thumbs up and short smile as she backed away and jogged to Max who smiled at her.
The two girls bumped fists as they walked to the front doors of the school together. Steve eyed them before signing and hitting his head against the steering wheel.
"She's never going to tell me." He groaned when the sound of a car honking invaded his eardrums. "I'm going! Damn!" He reached his hand out of the window and flipped off the bus as he pulled out of the parking lot.
The two headed straight to the gym where the band was playing and the cheerleaders were dancing. Max led her to where Mike and Dustin stood clapping. To be honest, even after everything, Gracie felt out of place with her only school friends being ninth graders and she being eighteen.
She saw the two boys wearing a shirt labeled "Hellfire Club" with a devil like creature on it and D&D symbols. The shirt brought her back to him, the freak, their "meeting" was pushed back later because of a campaign he had that night.
The cheerleaders finished off and sat down at the end of the bleachers on the floor. "And let's hear it for your tigers!" The gym coach announced as the captain, Jason Carver, ran through the poster filled by the rest of the team which included Lucas Sinclair.
Gracie clapped lightly for Lucas even though he and Max had broken up and the girls were practically sisters. "Good morning, Hawkins High!" Jason yelled into the microphone that was stood in the middle of the gym.
He removed it from the stand and began to walk forward. Gracie tried to block him out but it was useless due to the microphone he held in his hand. She had never liked him, not that anything happened, he was just too cocky and was a version of junior year Steve and junior Billy mixed together. Which was a terrible combination as they were both incredible assholes during that time period.
"First off... Hey. First off, I'd like to thank each and everyone of you. Without your support, we wouldn't be here. Give yourselves a big hand." The gym erupted into cheers and claps while he smirked in his all mighty cockiness.
His eyes locked with Gracie's for a second which he smirked and gave a short wave to her. Jason liked to think he and Gracie were friends now that Chrissy had begun to talk to her more. But that wasn't the case, at least in Gracie's end.
The cheering died down and Jason continued his speech as he smiled around the gym. "And of course, I have to give a special shout-out to the best and the prettiest fans of all time, the Tiger Cheer Squad." Claps were once heard and the entire cheer leading teams held big smiles on their faces.
"Chrissy..." He smacked his chest a couple of times, "Chrissy, I love you, babe." She blew him a kiss as a couple of people in the gym awed at them.
"You know... I think I can speak for all of us when I say it's been a tough year for Hawkins. So much loss. And sometimes I wonder, 'How much loss can one community take?' In dark days like this, we need something to believe in. So, last night, when we were down by ten points at half to Christian Academy, I looked at my team," His voice grew to a loud roar, turning and pointing at his teammates who only stood their emotionless besides Lucas who smiled.
"and I said, 'Think of Jack.' 'Think of Melissa.' 'Think of Heather.'" Gracie's heart stopped as she knew he was going to say his name. She hated hearing his name roll of the tongues of people who never spoken to him or hated him because he was a "higher rank" than them in Hawkins.
"'Think of Billy.'" People began to look at Max and Gracie who kept their eyes forward to the other side of the gym. Gracie's throat began to feel a small pain as she held in her tears trying not to cry, flashbacks of that night soaring through her brain.
"'Think about our heroic police chief, Jim Hopper.'" That was when Gracie couldn't take the pain in her chest anymore. She hurriedly placed her headphones on her head and played Rock Me Like A Hurricane at a loud volume.
Her bag gripped in her hand as she pushed her way through the many people on the bleachers and made her way out of the gym.
It was when she got to the quiet empty halls when the tears started to fall. "Stupid fucking Jason." She tried to wipe the tears off of her cheeks but more kept coming.
The noise of the gym door closing made her glance back at who she assumed was Max. But her assumption was wrong, it was Hawkins very own freak. "Hey Gracie..." His voice trailed off, unsure if what he was doing was okay at that moment.
"I'm not going to ask if you're okay because that's total bullshit. But, like if you want to talk, here I am at your service." He chuckled a bit hoping to bring a smile to her face. "Um- can we like go somewhere else? I don't want to talk where anyone can hear."
He hummed in response wrapping his hand tightly around hers in a way that was comforting. Her stomach began to flutter and her heart sped up. Looking up to him, as she was a few inches shorter, he looked stunning under the fluorescent lighting.
It may sound dramatic, but Gracie always thought of him as her angel. He was always there when she was sad and he made her laugh without trying. She had begun to think their fling was more than just sex.
At least to her it was, she'd never dare ask him how it felt in fear he didn't reciprocate and end the fling suddenly.
He led her outside to his van, the paint chipping off but he didn't mind all too much. He opened the back door of the van, bowing down and tilting his head up with with a smirk. "My lady." He held out his hand waiting for her to take it and step into the van.
She breathed out a laugh and held his hand as he helped her into the van. Once she was sat down he looked around making sure no one saw them and stepped inside, shutting the door.
"So-" His words were cut off as his face was suddenly grabbed and her lips were pressed against his. His eyes closed out of grown instinct and his hands tightened on her hips pulling her onto his lap as he sat down.
He pulled his lips away from her mouth and brought them to her neck. "Eddie." She huffed, out of breath, hands propped on his shoulders as her head fell back. His fingers dug deeper into her hips when she accidentally rocked forward.
"Eddie, n-not the neck." She felt him smirk into her skin before glancing up at her. "Sorry." Eddie took her jaw into his hand, admiring her for a moment. "What?" Her brows furrowed into deep question.
"Nothing, it's just that you're uh you're just perfect." It felt as if she had a patch of feathers in her stomach at the words that flew from his lips.
She placed her finger on his open mouth and pulled herself closer to him. "Shh." A giggle escaped from her lips which was like heaven to his ears.
She smiled, a true smile, before bringing their lips back together to move in sync. He almost smiled as he felt her smile against his lips. The smile he loved to see when they were alone because he knew that he caused it. Eddie wanted Gracie to be his.
