Book Title: Forever Broken
Review: Free
Blurb, Chapter 1
Blurb:
The blurb is very powerful. Any book about bullying is not going to be a book that anyone particularly wants to read, but we find ourselves itching to take some inspiration from it. Including suicide too, also sends a strong message. It breaks your heart before you even click "read" because you know there's people out there going through it and you don't know how to help them. Many readers will relate to being bullied or are currently being bullied, and that will speak to them in ways that real life can't. I just hope this has a good ending for Isabelle :(
Chapter 1
Okay, first thing I want to address is when you speak to us readers. Don't do it. You're speaking to us as an author and not as the character. Like when you put:
Finally, and I'm sure you all saw this coming, the popular kids.
You're probably telling me to shut up and get to the point.
Don't talk to the readers, it makes me instantly disconnect from the story because I know Luke can't possibly speak to me. Just keep it to his thoughts. You can write humor in without engaging directly to us.
I want to PRAISE you for writing in the opposite gender! Most won't do it because they find it difficult, but you really did well with it. I'm currently having to write in the opposite gender for my sequel and I'm like "no, a guy wouldn't think that... would he?" haha! You write it with such confidence though.
When Luke's describing the change in Isabelle, that just broke me. At least he's noticing it though, he knows her well enough to know there's something wrong. It's so easy to go from smiling and laughing one day to completely blanking the world the next. I know this feeling well, and it's nice that someone notices.
This becomes apparent in the second half as well. He's suspicious, but it's not clicking right away. I guess this is what depression does to someone, even your closest friend becomes someone you can't turn to. That's if she has depression, I'm just speculating.
I think it's very powerful and eye-opening. It's easy to read and the flow is balanced amazingly, making your skills as an author stand out.
Isabelle is keeping something from him. Maybe something happened online that he doesn't know about? He doesn't seem like the type to just accept it, so I hope he pursues it and in turn, saves her from what is not changing her, but controlling her.
It's not a nice feeling.
Amazing job!
My only critique is to edit out when you directly speak to the reader and there's just a few mistakes that I've pointed out, but your writing in general is very professional and thought-provoking. You send a message with your story telling, a strong one, and I hope it ripples.
