Octavia! You must help her!" The guard looked at me like I had three heads. "Read what it says" he boomed I looked at the paper "Five ways to house train your dog to stop biting things" my knees get weak. "I don't understand" I said weakly, The guard shook his head and walked out of the cell. He slammed the door shut and walked away. I sat down on the bed scared. Aspen said he would be coming for me tonight. I could not allow myself to sleep. I started to pace the room hoping he would come. I needed to finish this once and for all. I kept staring at the door waiting for him to come through it. The silence that was once my friend now taunted me. Pressing down, making me second guess the note if I imagined it. Hours passed no sounds. Not even a mouse it was early quiet. I was going crazy. The thirst has gotten to me. I made the painful choice. I laid down and wrapped myself in the blanket. Finally letting myself succumb to the exhaustion. I woke the next day my heart pounding. Did Aspen visit Octavia last night? I need to find out any news I could. I heard the keys rattle in the door, and it opened. "Colton!" I said not realizing I rushed to him. He took me into his arms "Kayla what happened?" He asked. "The guards were talking about the crazy hybrid in the cell" he said. I bit my lip and looked away. "Hey its ok, tell me." He said taking my chin into his hand and slowing brining my eyes up to meet his. I signed and told him everything. The note what it said and what happened after I dropped it to the ground. "did sand get on the front of the note? He asked I looked at him in confusion. I took a step back "are you mocking me?" I almost yelled at him. "No, no just please answer did the sand touch the front of the note?" I tired to think. Sighing I said "Colton I cannot fully remember; the guards don't give me much when it comes to blood or food. With out proper feeds I cannot think as clearly." I walked over to the bed and sat down a tear escaped my eye. I wiped it away stubbornly no I was not going to cry. Colton walked into the cell and sat down on the bed next to me. "Colton, aren't you going to get in trouble if you get caught?" I asked he looked at me and smiled. "All the guards are at the Royal chamber something happened last night." His eyes fell to the floor. My heart caught in my chest. No, I shook my head no it can't be no I was going crazy from lack of blood this cant be happening. I looked at Colton "tell me." I said He bit his lip "Colton tells me!" I shouted. "The princess has been taken to the hospital wing." He said "what happened Colton? What happened to Octavia!" My hear was breaking into a million pieces. "Lord Devon attacked her. He brutally raped and beat her she was found laying in a pool of her own blood Lord Devon crying over her what have I done, Her blood was all over his hands. He is being detained and questioned right now." Colton looked at me "Kayla please don't do anything that will get you killed!" He yelled to late I was already at the door. He lunged and grabbed me. "You need to be stronger if you're going to take on Lord Devon stop fighting me!" I knew he was right, but I didn't care I needed to get to Octavia I needed to see her I needed to kill my cousin. Then he said something that stopped me in my tracks. "drink from me, get stronger Ill take you to see the princess but I need you to drink from me." I stopped fighting him, I turned to look at him, was this a trick? He took a knife out of his boot. I looked at him "Colton no, I don't want it." I lied "Kayla, you're not strong enough to take on anyone let alone cast spells or hide." He spoke "we will need you to create a body double spell if you want to see Octavia Just in case a guard comes to check in on you. We cannot have you not here." He cut his wrist and held it up. "drink" he said. He moved forward and put his wrist at my mouth. How am I going to do a spell when the prison is warded against magic? I tried to resist "I took down one of the wards Kayla" he said, "you will be at full power, but you need to drink." the thirst came over me. I opened my mouth and drank. I pulled away. "I know you don't, you pulled away when we kissed" I said. I started to walk back to the bed. He caught my hand. "Kayla, I do want you, but I don't want anything between us rushed. When we finally do decide to take the next steps, I want it to be you as a free woman. If we can find that guard you "Killed" we can get you freed, but you need Octavia's help." He held out his wrist once more "Drink" I looked at him. was this a trap? Was he just saying these things to me to catch me off guard? He couldn't do anything unless he had puncture marks. Hesitantly I opened my mouth. My fangs came out gleaming and aching for a bite. I took his wrist in my hands and bit down. "shit" he moaned I resisted the urge to lose myself in it. I said and shook my head He handed me a cloak "Here put this on, its spelled to make you look like someone else" I obeyed and put the cloak on pulling the hood over my head. He took me out and guided me down the hall. Instead of going left this time we turned right and followed a winding path that came to a set of gold doors. They gleamed weirdly there wasn't enough light down here to make them shimmer like that. I was about to ask what was up with the doors when they opened. I froze. "Ah Private Colton, I see you brought the security specialist to check the wards." The captain of the guard said. Now this guy is scary think Andre the Giant and Big Show had a baby, yea that was him. His name was Derek. "Captain Derek, yes may I introduce Summer, Summer this is the captain I was just telling you about." I shook his hand "Nice to meet you." I spoke. The captain stared at me for a few moments, my heart started racing does he recognize me? "I'm sorry, you just look a lot like my daughter" the captain finally said, "I do miss her, she died a few years back" "I'm so sorry for your loss" I said He nodded "Well Private Colton if there isn't anything else you need Ill let you keep at it." The captain said he walked past Colton and closed the door behind him. "Summer?" I asked with amusement in my voice. "It was the only thing I could think of. He laughed "Come on Kayla we need to keep going." I agreed and we started walking I didn't recognize where we were at first, I never explored this part of the castle, being a hybrid, I could heal myself. So, there was never any need for me to go to the hospital wing. It looked like what I imagined a human hospital would look like. White walls with signs pointing to the different wards to the left a sign for "Burns" to the right a sign for "curses" I doubt the human hospitals had a ward for curses. We kept going to straight until we got to a sign that said, "The royal hospital intensive care unit." I hesitated at the door. Colton must have seen my hesitation "Kayla, wait here he whispered, I'll be right back" He slipped through the doors. It felt like forever until he finally came out "I told them you where here to check the wards and you needed them to leave just in case." I nodded and he led me through the door. The smell hit me before the scene did, blood, I smelt blood. Colton grabbed onto my arm and whispered, "you can do this don't lose control think of the Princess." I shut my eyes for a moment to gain control of myself. When I opened them, it looked like a horror movie? There where people every where some gashed some coughing up blood others crying out in pain. "what happened!" I exclaimed "Lord Devon" Colton replied. I shivered, "Kayla, I hate to ask, but are you willing to talk about your cousin? He used to be so sweet mannered and cared for his people, now look" He said motioning all over the room. "you need to talk to Octavia; she can tell you more." I spoke. He led me to her room. "I'll keep a look out at the door, if someone is coming ill knock once then get the cloak back on." He whispered. I nodded and steeped in. I wish I didn't Octavia was laying there almost lifeless why didn't her healing kick in? what happened! I thought I could not say anything in risk of Colton hearing me. He knew what I was, but I didn't know if he would protect Octavia if he found out about her. I ran over to her bedside and tore off the cloak. "Oh Octavia," I cried "Kay? Is that you?" she asked she sounded so weak. "I'm here it's me I'm here O" I said crying as well "How?" she asked "Shh don't talk, I'll explain everything, just don't talk" She nodded. "What happened?" I asked she started to open her mouth and I stopped her "I said no talking." She rolled my eyes but grabbed a pen and paper that was sitting next to the bed. "When I got back to our room, Devon could tell something was different. I think he smelt you on me or maybe he found my blood stash, I don't know. He grabbed me, called me a whore, and flung me on the bed saying If you're going to have sex with others you will pay for it. He punched me in the face and flipped me over" Her hand started to shake "Its ok you don't have to keep going "I said she shook her head no and continued writing.
