[Preface]
This book is a mixture of history, fiction and my understanding of the emotions of the characters. It will mainly be based on POV of Kayadhu. Her Birth and meeting with Demon king is fictional.
Hiranyakashipu was born to Diti and Kashyapa, a daughter and son of Daksha, the son of Brahma. He had an elder brother named Hiranyaksha, who was a powerful and cruel asura. Hiranyakashipu grew up admiring his brother, who often challenged the Gods and conquered the three worlds. He also had a sister named Holika, who had a boon of being immune to fire.
One day, Hiranyaksha attacked the earth and dragged it to the bottom of the ocean. He wanted to make it his own kingdom and rule over all the creatures. The Gods were helpless and prayed to Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, to save the earth. Lord Vishnu took the form of a boar called Varaha and dived into the ocean. He fought with Hiranyaksha for a thousand years and finally killed him with his tusks. He then lifted the earth on his snout and restored it to its original position.
Hiranyakashipu was devastated by the death of his brother. He blamed Vishnu for his loss and vowed to take revenge. He decided to become immortal and overthrow Vishnu from his throne. He went to the Himalayas to perform a severe penance. He stood on one leg for many years, without eating or drinking anything. He endured the heat of the sun, the cold of the winter, and the attacks of wild animals. He chanted the name of Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, and asked for his blessings.
Lord Brahma was pleased with his devotion and appeared before him.
Then Hiranyakashipu asked a boon to be immortal. Then Lord Brahma said that it was not possible for him to give that boon.
Then he thought for a while and asked for a boon -
"I won't be killed by any living entities created by you.
No one can kill me within any residence or outside any residence, during daytime or at night, nor on the ground or in the sky.
I won't be killed by any weapon or by any human or animal"
Lord Brahma agreed to give him the boons but also warned him not to misuse his powers and to respect other beings.
Hiranyakashipu was overjoyed by his boon. He returned to his kingdom and declared himself as the supreme lord of the universe. He ordered everyone to worship him instead of Vishnu or any other god. He banned all forms of devotion, sacrifice, and charity. He tortured anyone who disobeyed him or spoke of Vishnu. He conquered all the worlds and made everyone his slave.
