Hanging Out With ReAnn
Song: Pocket full of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield
We have a short staff meeting before the shift starts and everyone drops the topic that was spreading fast. I knew my secret wouldn't stay quite long consider it is all over the news about the death of Mr. Harper. They all know who I am now. But after the meeting everything goes back to normal. Well almost, I feel that everyone is being super nice to me afraid that I might crumble to a million pieces. Thankfully we are super busy and I don't have time to think about anything.
However when I get home its an empty house I am just lost within myself. I try to wind down but nothing seems to work. I finally just say forget it and start cleaning the whole damn place from top to bottom. Everything is spotless not a speck of dust anywhere. It's after three in the morning before I finally crash on the couch.
The alarm on my phone keeps going off and I have to get up to find the thing sitting on the kitchen counter where I had left it the night before. I barely get down breakfast and end up throwing more than half of it away. I manage to get up and take a shower and get ready for another night at work.
I was surprised not to run into Mr. Moretti throughout my shift. Maybe telling him to stay out of my personal life was all I needed to say. The week passes on by and then another week. I go to school and then to work. I pay the bills and continue to clean the apartment up even though it is already spotless. It's really kinda of hard to make a mess when you are rarely ever home and when you are you don't even make a mess. Its weird being all on my own and lonely. I hate coming home to an empty place with no one to talk to and talking to myself is not the best of things to be doing.
Today ReAnn is in town and called me up she is coming over and then we are going shopping. I have the day off so that's a plus. There is a knock at my door around ten-thirty. I look through the peek hole to make sure it is her before opening it up. "Hey...finally you are here. Come in." I open the door for her.
She walks around and looks at the place. "Well, just like I remembered except a little cleaner. Girl tell me you don't have a maid."
"I don't have a maid, just a lot of time on my hands since Raine left."
She walks over toward me with a pouty face and open arms. "Oh...Ana...I'm sorry things didn't work out between the two of you."
"It's fine. I'm fine now...really. I'm making it work."
"I see that." She pulls away and looks at me up and down and then back up. "God you're so freaking skinny...beautiful as always though." She smiles wide. "Let's grab a bite to eat and then we could go looking around, looks like you could use something to eat," she laughs.
"ReAnn, I'm not that skinny. Stop worrying about me."
"Girl look at you. I can tell you are not eating right. Come on it's on me."
I take her to the old restaurant that I use to work at because they have like the best food ever and for a good price on lunch. Some new hostess sits us at a table and I ask if Harold is there today and I already know that he is. "Of course he is here; would you like me to get him for you?"
"Yes, just tell him Ana is here," I tell her as I hand ReAnn the menu. I don't bother looking at it because I already know what I want.
Within a few minutes he is coming out of the swinging doors and I can hear his voice before I even see him. When he gets to the table I jump up and hug him."My...my...my...tell me you are coming back I so miss you."
"I would but you know I actually love my new job. Harold I am learning so much there."
"I'm sure you are. I hope he is taking good care of you?"
I don't say anything as I look over to ReAnn. "Harold this is my best friend ReAnn...ReAnn this is Harold, I use to work for him."
"Yeah, until someone came by and made her an offer she wouldn't refuse."
"Oh really now; who is this mysterious person?" She gleams with excitement.
"No one really, just a customer that came in here and he offered me a job cooking in his restaurant."
"Uhm...sure...girl you got to tell me about this guy?"
"Who said he was a guy?"
"Oh...really! I'm sure it was," she snickers.
"Well I got to get back to cooking. Oh...Ana...it's so good to see you. Hey you know what, order whatever you want it's on the house alright."
"Harold!"
"No, really it's on me. You need to come around here more often," he tells me and gives me another hug. "It was nice to meet you ma'am," he says to ReAnn and then heads back into the kitchen.
"Ok, who is this mystery person?"
"No one really, I swear." But I know she doesn't believe me.
After eating we go to the mall and shop. I haven't been shopping in awhile so when I grab the size seven jeans off the rack to try on, I am surprised that they don't fit. It's not like I try to lose weight but apparently I have lost more than what I thought. I end up getting a size five and even they are a little loose on me.
"I told you girl; you are freaking skinny."
"Yeah...yeah...yeah." I wave her off.
Throughout the day I keep handing the sales reps my bank card and ReAnn notices that it's not a credit card. "This guy must be paying you good money or you're doing more than just cooking." I give her a look.
"You can have money when you never have time to spend it or on someone else."
"True, you are so right. But even I don't make that kind of money. God he must be paying you good."
"It's just a job, ReAnn." I roll my eyes at her.
"Ok, well I would like to know where this place is so that I can get a job there." She wrinkles up her nose and starts laughing again.
"Well maybe later we could stop by there to eat, would that make you happy."
"Hell yeah! I am dying to meet this mystery person."
"Again...he is no mystery, just a guy."
Later that night we stop by and normally you have to have a reservation however they keep two tables open for employees that are close to the back part of the house. I walk in and say hi to Mariana the hostess that replaced the one he got rid of the day he hired me. ReAnn looks over the menu and back to me. "This is highway robbery. God have you seen these prices...dear lord how can anyone afford it."
I laugh at her, "You would be surprised." I look around to a house full of customers. All of them of course are upper class; they are after all the only ones that can afford a place like this. I look back at ReAnn. "Just get whatever you want it's on me alright."
"Are you crazy?"
"No, really I will get it; do you know what you want?"
She shakes her head and when the waitress comes over she orders and I order my usual. The food comes out and ReAnn looks at it and then back up to me. "God this looks too good to eat." But then she dives right on in.
We are almost done eating when I see someone in the corner of my eye come up to the table. I don't look up at first because I am looking at ReAnn. She however is looking up at the figure standing beside me and I can tell by the way she is looking at him that she thinks he is some kind of God sent from heaven. I look up and sure enough it is Mr. Moretti.
"Hope everything is too your liking; can I get you two anything else?"
"Your phone number," says ReAnn under her breath. God I hope he didn't hear that but I know he did by the smile on his face.
"Oh! Uhm, ReAnn this is my boss, Mr. Moretti...Mr. Moretti this is my friend ReAnn."
He goes to grab her hand and turns it over to kiss it like a true gentleman. "It's nice to meet you; please call me Vincent."
She gleams at the gesture. "Vincent...it's nice to meet you. Now I know why she really took the job."
I kick her under the table and glare at her. He looks down and smirks at me, knowing that I just kicked her. "You have to excuse my friend here. I think she may have had one too many to drink."
ReAnn giggles and holds her empty wine glass up.
"Well, I hope you enjoy the service and the food. I got the bill tonight alright."
"Wow! Twice in one day; damn girl tell me your little secret."
"Twice in one day?" he says looking down at me.
I roll my eyes, seriously this girl doesn't know how to keep her mouth closed. "Yeah...we went by to see Harold for lunch and he paid for the meal and now here you are trying to pay."
"Oh, how was Harold doing I haven't been by there in a while?"
"He was doing good."
"Yeah, he seemed a little heartbroken though since you took Ana here away from him; he was practically begging her to come back to work for him."
"Really now."
"No! He wasn't; he just said that he missed me. Seriously ReAnn, you can't hold your liquor."
"Girl...I haven't even got started. You know we should go clubbing tonight. Get you out of that lonely apartment of yours."
"There is a really good Club over on Peach Street, you two should check it out."
I look up at him. "Really now; what kind of club is it?"
He laughs thinking of the last club I was at when I was looking for him. "It's a dance club...you two should go. I will tell Derrick that you guys are coming because it's hard to get into on a night like this."
When he walks off ReAnn is staring me down. "God...you said he was just a guy...damn that shit is hot what planet is he from. Tell me you haven't hooked up with him."
"I haven't."
"What are you waiting for...jeez...if I worked here I would never get anything done."
"That's why you don't work here," I laugh and then we leave to go down to the club.
