Aang's POV:

Aang and Katara lay stretched out on their stomachs, talking on the balcony of Team Avatar's house in Ba Sing Se. They were visiting the city with Toph, Sokka and Suki; Zuko and Iroh saying they would come as soon as possible if they found an opportunity. Sokka and Suki were out shopping, and Toph was on the porch, playing with her meterorite bracelet, and sending giant boulders rocketing into the air, sighing every five seconds.

"Where should we have it?" Katara was asking Aang, looking down at one of the scrolls in front of her and kicking her legs in the air, absentmindedly.

"We could have it at the South Pole if you want to." Aang suggested. "It would be easier for your dad and the rest of your family."

"Yeah..." Katara hesitated. "But maybe we should keep thinking." She finished quickly.

Aang narrowed his eyes at her in suspicion. That was strange. Katara loved the South Pole; she always seemed to be laughing and smiling when they were there. "Okay..." he said slowly, "Well what about here? In Ba Sing Se?"

Katara considered this. "Like here? As in, this house here?"

Aang shrugged. "Why not? We already said we didn't want a big one."

Katara nodded slowly. Aang couldn't help but feel a little worried. What was wrong? Katara wasn't really the evasive type when it came to this.

Aang put his hand on top of hers. "Katara, if you want to get married at the South Pole we definitely can."

Katara looked away. The dusky purple evening was forming a lavender halo around her and Aang's breath caught in his throat for a moment.  "I know it's just.... I love the South Pole and the Southern Water Tribe, but we've traveled so much, and been so many places, I've sort of realized that it's not so much as where I am, it's more of who I'm with." She blushed a strawberry pink. "That sounded stupid."

"No, I understand," Aang reassured her, blushing a little bit himself. "I am a nomad after all."

Katara laughed lightly. "You got me there." They were quiet for a moment, each lost in thought.

Then Katara's eyes snapped back to Aang's with a determined light. "Let's have it here."

"What?" Aang asked, as he had zoned out a little.

"Let's have it here." Katara repeated, this time with a little more certainty. "In Ba Sing Se. You're right that the house is perfect. Besides, we were here when I realized how much you mean to me." She ducked her head again, her face even redder than before.

Aang kissed her hand. "As you wish my lady." and then softer, "I'm proud of you."

Katara looked into his eyes and smiled at him softly before getting back to work. "Ok, enough dilly-dallying, let's focus. "What song should we dance to for our first dance?"

If Aang had been drinking water, he would've spit it out right there. "I know the perfect one!"

Katara looked like she hadn't been expecting any suggestions. She raised her eyebrows. "And what would that be?"

Aang cleared his throat and started to sing. "Two lover, forbidden from one another,"

Katara tilted her head to one side. "What?"

"A war divides their people, and a mountain divides them apart."

Katara just started at him.

"Built a path to be together..."

"Wait..." Katara said, starting to understand.

"AND DIE!"

She layed her head down one her arms. "You have got to be kidding me."

"Secret tunnel! Secret tunnel! Through the mountain! Secret, secret, secret tunnel!" Aang sang gleefully.

When he finished, Katara held up her pointer finger. "Let me just say, NO. Sokka would pass out with horror."

"Then would you care to practice with me?" Aang asked, climbing to his feet and holding out his hand to help her up.

"Practice for what?" Katara wondered, accepting his hand.

"Our first dance!" Aang exclaimed as he twirled  her around.

"But, Sweetie," she protested, "We've hardly gotten anything done and I-"

"Hey." Aang stopped her. "We have plenty of time for all that. Be here with me now."

She stilled looked hesitant and Aang tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. "I promise we can plan for as long as you want if you'll please dance with me. Please?" he made baby seal eyes at her.

Katara sighed, but her eyes were shining. "Oh all right."

"Yes!" Aang picked her up and spun her around.

Katara's laugh echoed all around his brain, making everything else around him but her fuzzy and unfocused. It wasn't in any way a spinny, jumpy, high energy dance, like they'd done in the Fire Nation when they were kids. This one was slower; his left hand on her waist, her right hand on his shoulder, their other hands clasped together and their foreheads touching. They swayed to non-existent music, breathing each other in.

"I can't wait to marry you, Avatar Aang." Katara whispered.

Aang thought his heart might explode right there. He kissed her forehead. "I can hardly stand another second, Sifu Katara."

For once, nobody interrupted them, and they stayed there for a long time, until the first few stars began to peak through the inky backdrop of the sky over Ba Sing Se.
