Katara POV:

"Hello everyone! Welcome to the third annual National Tea Appreciation Day celebration!" Iroh spread his hands out wide, grinning like a maniac. The fact that he was unwisely standing on a chair increased the effect, and didn't fail to bring a smile to every person in the enormous room.

Zuko stood a little to his left, secretly making sure his uncle didn't fall off the chair and trying to keep his extreme exasperation out of his expression. Though seeing Iroh this happy was enough to keep it mostly under control.

Aang and Katara were beind them to the right. Katara was almost overwhelmed by the beauty of a still healing country united to celebrate and share in Iroh's passion. Aang was trying and failing not to laugh at Zuko's clear discomfort and look at least a little bit dignified.

"We are so happy to have you here to celebrate with us! You all are welcome to as much tea as you wish! But first let us thank my nephew Fire Lord Zuko for making this all possible!" The room exploded with cheers. Zuko gave a strained smile and waved awkwardly. He shot a glare at Aang, who had lost his battle and was cracking up silently. Katara elbowed her boyfriend in the ribs as hard as she could to shut him up and sent Zuko a thumbs up, which he returned, his smile a little more real. "Now," Iroh continued. "Let's have some tea!"

Getting started was a little rough. Nobody seemed to understand the concept of a line, so as punishment, Aang was assigned to crowd control. He didn't mind it at all, and jogged over to the beginning of the "line" still chuckling.

Iroh and Zuko went to help make tea still within sight, leaving Katara to hand it out. With every cup of tea she gave out, she put a little piece of paper with it. She wasn't entirely sure what was on them, she didn't really have time to stop and read them.

They moved like a well oiled machine. The tea was made and put into cups to be carried on trays over to where Katara was handing the out, each type of tea arranged in a separate column. That defiantly made it easier on Katara, but she still got tired quickly. Just when she was about to call out for someone to come help her out, Aang materialized beside her, picking up the next cup of tea.

Katara jumped in surprise, nearly dropping the tea she already had in her hand.  "What are you doing?" she hissed, handing the cup off like it was a hot coal.

Aang looked at her innocently. "Helping you!"

"Well, who is helping with the line?"

"I asked my friend Zhi to help." Aang gestured over to a tall, burly young man who seemed to be keeping people in line simply by looking extremely intimidating. "He was very willing. I told him to consider being a guard. The guy was born to be in charge of something." Aang spoke fondly of him, like they'd been lifelong friends, instead of just having met in a line to get free tea.

He touched her arm carefully. "Do you need to sit down for a bit? You look really tired."

"I'm fine Aang."

"Ok," he relented. "Just trying to help."

"I know, Sweetie, thank you."

They continued handing out tea quietly for what felt like ages. Every so often Zhi would nod to Aang like he had everything under control. Aang would grin and shoot him a thumbs up. Katara admired his ability to make friends so easily. Every stranger that stepped up for a cup of tea, stepped away having accepted and returned a warm, friendly smile from Aang. Some people even blurted out introductions. Aang would smile and shake their hands like he was equally interested in getting to know them. Katara had no doubt he was.

He caught her eyes as she was looking at him and his smile softened. He took her hand and laced their fingers together. The woman who was next in line looked like she was witnessing the most adorable thing that had ever happened in the history of the world.

Aang honestly looked slightly flustered handing her her tea. The lady continued smiling as she left the line and walked away. It only got worse when she saw him notice that Iroh was peeking over his work making tea to look at them holding hands. The old man ducked his head when he realized he was caught and Zuko scolded him.

By then, Aang's neck and ears were a bright, violent red and tried to hide it by dragging a hand down his face. Katara helped out the next person in line, laughing in embarrassment. She leaned over and whispered to Aang. "We're their entertainment for the night."

Aang snorted softly. "Alright then." To her surprise, he spun her towards him and kissed her right in front of a good chunk of the entire Fire Nation. Katara felt her entire head get boiling hot, and yet the noise in the room began to grow distant. Aang pulled away too quickly and looked out at all the  people. "Are you happy now?!" he called.

All at once everyone started cheering and hollering like crazy. "YES!" cried the woman that had been smiling at them. Katara glanced back at Iroh and Zuko. Iroh was looking at Zuko with a sly expression and Zuko looked absolutely traumatized.

Aang squeezed her hand. Frankly, she wished that they were anywhere but there in front of all those people. But at least she knew that Aang was feeling everything she was. It made it better that they were blushing, embarassed messes together.

They kept handing out tea for a few more hours so it was an absolute relief to step back out into the night air. Zuko had invited them to stay the night, and they had accepted, but they'd agreed stepping out for a bit would be good for them.

"Sorry about that earlier." Aang blurted as they walked around one off the small palace courtyards. "I don't know what I was thinking."

Katara gave him a small smile. "It's ok."

Aang went on. "It made you really uncomfortable, and me too, I don't know I did it. I'm so sorry."

"Sweetie I already forgave you!" Katara said. She saw that he was genuinely distressed and she pulled him into a hug. "Oh Aang."

He hugged her back. "I know that you wish that we could be more private and live more quietly. I know you wish we- no I - didn't travel so much. I'm sorry I can't be that for you."

"Aang you know perfectly well that I don't want anything else but you."

"But-" he started.

"Nope."

"I-"

"Nope."

"Katara-"

"Nope."

He sighed in defeat. Katara broke away from the hug and took hand. "I think you're the tired one this time." He made a pitiful face and she rolled her eyes.  "Let's go."

So they went to bed and replayed the day about twenty thousand times each but were able to laugh some it off when they hadn't been able to before.
