33. Old Enemy Returns

Somewhere amidst the majestic Himalayas, the mystical chants of Brahmadev's name echoed through the dark, enigmatic caves. A determined man stood in the formidable trikonasana pose, his body drenched in sweat from years of unwavering austerity dedicated to invoking the blessings of Lord Brahma.

For seven long years, he had persisted, enduring the foul stench that clung to his body and the incessant swarm of insects that accompanied his arduous journey. But in a breathtaking moment, a brilliant light pierced through the darkness, illuminating the cavernous depths as Lord Brahma materialized before the steadfast devotee. The deity found himself torn between denying the man's request for a boon and acknowledging the immense pain and sacrifice that had defined his relentless devotion.

Sighing deeply, Lord Brahma blinked his eyes, causing all the insects that had plagued the devotee to vanish instantly. "Rise, my child," the divine voice resonated through the cave, breaking the man's grueling penance. Opening his eyes, he beheld the awe-inspiring presence of Lord Brahma standing before him. A smile spread across his face, fueled by the thought of seeking retribution against Karna, his nemesis.

"What boon do you seek?" Lord Brahma inquired, his gaze unwavering.

"I can only be vanquished by the combined powers of the tridev, and it must not be the tridev themselves who deliver the blow. Only one possessing the might of the tridev can end my existence. Furthermore, I beseech you, O, Lord Brahma, to bestow no more powers upon mortals henceforth," the man declared.

"Tataastu, my son," Lord Brahma acquiesced, and with that, he dissolved into thin air, leaving the devotee to fulfill his vendetta against Karna.

At the realm of Brahma, Devi Saraswati couldn't help but laugh heartily. "This Trijatasur is indeed a foolish being," she remarked.

"He remains oblivious to the fact that Karna wields the combined powers of myself, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva," Brahmadev chuckled in amusement, thoroughly entertained by Trijatasur's folly.

"Let us now witness the demise of Trijatasur," Devi Saraswati suggested.

"Yes, Devi," Brahmadev agreed.

In the grand city of Hastinapur, the musketeers and Shon frolicked with their children. Vrishasena had become the leader of the boisterous gang, much to the chagrin of the adults who struggled to rein in their wild energy. Meanwhile, Madirakshi immersed herself in a solemn puja at the Lord Shiva temple, fervently praying for the well-being of her family. Bhanumati and Amrita diligently cared for Rekha, while also assisting Gandhari with matters of the state. As always, Dushala wandered through the serene garden, lost in her own thoughts.

Gandhari found solace in witnessing the joy radiating from her beloved sons. She had tirelessly prayed for their happiness and was relieved to see them treading the righteous path. All her sons were now married, and she was particularly grateful that they had resisted Shakuni's manipulations, staying committed to the path of dharma.

Dhritarashtra, too, found solace in the knowledge that his son would soon ascend to the throne of Hastinapur. Though he longed for Duryodhana to rule over the entire kingdom, he took solace in the fact that his son, at least, reigned in the capital.

Shakuni seethed with anger, desperately attempting to contain his frustration. His meticulously devised plans had unraveled, leaving him embittered. He directed his ire at Karna, as the latter had foiled his political machinations aimed at sowing discord between the two sets of brothers. Even his magic had proven futile against his own nephews, intensifying his vexation. Tensions mounted as he pondered Krishna's involvement with the Pandavas. His efforts to forge an alliance between the Kurus and the Yadavas had crumbled when Duryodhana refused to marry Subhadra, who subsequently wed Arjuna. Shakuni yearned for success and constantly searched for an opportune moment to turn the tide in his favor.

In contrast, Bhishma and Vidur celebrated Karna's pivotal role in averting a civil war in Hastinapur. They lauded him for employing his powers to caution Dhritarashtra. Heeding Karna's counsel, they remained vigilant, preparing for the worst-case scenario.

Engrossed in play with the children, Karna abruptly sensed an impending malevolent force threatening Anga. Hastily leaving the play area, he instructed his friends, "Take care of the children. I have urgent matters to attend to." With those words, he mounted his steed and swiftly rode towards Ang.

Harnessing his magical abilities, Karna erected a formidable barrier to protect Ang from the encroaching danger. Galloping with great speed, he reached the city, his face etched with concern. As news of the imminent peril reached Madirakshi, she redoubled her prayers, pouring her heart and soul into the sacred rituals. The royal courtiers, too, grew apprehensive witnessing the worry lines etched on Karna's face.

Spotting an opportune moment, Shakuni set about searching for the mystical artifact and the dark magic book that Karna had hidden within the confines of Hastinapur. Bhishma and Vidur, however, remained watchful, keeping a vigilant eye on Shakuni, while advising Duryodhana and his brother to remain within the palace, ensuring their safety.

Upon his arrival in Anga, Karna immediately sensed a disturbance in the environment. Aware of the looming threat, he ordered all the people of Anga to remain within their homes, forbidding them to venture outside under any circumstances.

Summoning his celestial Vijaya Dhanush, Karna drew back its string, imbuing the entire Aryavrat with an electrifying transformation upon releasing it. In the midst of this momentous change, Trijatasur emerged, a vindictive fire burning in his eyes. "Who shall come to your aid now, Karna? You killed my father during your reckless adventure, but now the time for vengeance has arrived. Brace yourself," Trijatasur warned, brandishing his bow.

Launching a barrage of astras towards Karna, Trijatasur found each one countered with skill and precision. Undeterred, he resorted to deploying his divine weapons against Karna, only to witness them transform into delicate blossoms, thanks to the boon bestowed by the tridev.

Mocking Karna, Trijatasur taunted, "What sorcery do you employ, Karna? You cannot slay me. I possess a boon that decrees only a being with the powers of the tridev can end my existence. Alas, no such entity dwells in this universe."

Karna burst into laughter, responding, "Who misled you, you fool? I possess the combined powers of the tridev, and now you have unwittingly revealed the means to your own demise."

Enraged and fearful, Trijatasur attempted to flee, but Karna, having already unleashed his tridev powers, immobilized him, stripping him of his weaponry and rendering him defenseless.

Back in Hastinapur, Madirakshi recognized the invocation of Karna's tridev astra, while Shakuni recoiled in horror, confronted with the impending atmosphere of destruction. Bhishma and Vidur, too, were stricken with dread, resorting to fervent prayers. Gandhari and Dhritarashtra trembled under the weight of Karna's wrath.

In Indraprastha, bewilderment gripped everyone as they bore witness to the unfolding cataclysm. "Nath, I believe the mighty Karna is consumed by fury," Devika observed.

"I concur," Yudhishthira affirmed.

"Jyesht, we must ensure the safety of our people," Bhima declared.

"Yes, Anuj. Arjuna, Nakula, it is your duty to protect our people," Yudhishthira assigned, urging his brothers into action.

Responding promptly, Arjuna and Nakula set about rescuing the citizens of Hastinapur from imminent danger.

Amidst the fierce battlefield, Karna readied his Tridevastra, releasing it towards Trijatasur. Thunderous fire engulfed the earth, raging with unstoppable ferocity. As the Tridevastra fulfilled its purpose, Trijatasur was vanquished, liberated from the curse of Durvasa Rishi.

Kneeling before Karna, Trijatasur humbly touched his feet and expressed his gratitude, "Dhanyawad, Angaraj. You have freed me from the shackles of Durvasa Rishi's curse. From this moment on, I am your loyal servant."

Karna's smile widened, and he responded, "You are not my slave, but an independent individual."

"No, Angaraj, I am bound by Durvasa Rishi's decree to serve my liberator," Trijat insisted.

"Very well, you may serve, but you shall not be my slave. Henceforth, you shall be under Sahadev, the governor of Magadh," Karna decreed. Soon, Sahadeva arrived and whisked Trijat away under his care. Karna, too, embarked on his journey back to Hastinapur.

Upon his return, Karna wasted no time in informing everyone about Trijat's defeat and the means to end his existence. Relief washed over the crowd, except for Shakuni, who found himself at a loss, confronted by the realization that his adversary wielded the powers of the tridev.

Meanwhile, news of the encounter reached Indraprastha, bringing a sense of relief to its inhabitants. Little did the bring forth an insurmountable challenge during their grand Rajsuya Yagya.
