Everett looks at her sister, an eyebrow raised. "I never knew. I mean, Keely and Dick joked about it back in freshman year but...I thought Keelian was just bitter about what had happened before."

Evaline smiles, looking wistful and mystic as she always does. Evaline looks at her sister's unfocused, murky eyes. They never really had the same eyes, after all. Everett has her mother's eyes, clear green, both soft and startling all at once. It makes her the picture of clarity and calmness, but also gave her a rather pointed look, which she utilizes to her advantage.

But Evaline has their father's eyes. Murky green. Swampy. Unsure. Mysterious. Hers is an eery presence, neither here nor there, as if perpetually caught in trance. It makes her enigmatic, and ethereal all at once. It was the look their father had, and perhaps that's why their mother resents Eva so much. Elizabeth, their mommy-dearest, can't look her older daughter in the eye, as if it were a perpetual reminder of her husband.

"Well," Evaline says, still caught in her dazed trance. Everett knows she could see the ghost of Julie Moore before her, Julie as she was in the past, Julie as she was before Everett, Julie as she was alive, Julie as she was now - dead. "That was barely the beginning." A strange smile crosses her sister's face. "If you really want to know what happened, we have to start at the end."

"The end?"

"At least, the start of the end." Her swampy eyes collides with Everett's piercing ones, combining into a painter's fantasy.

She smiles mysteriously. "It all happened three months ago."
