It has been two days since Kamala, Doug and Devi were discharged from the hospital and have been home!

Kamala and Doug have been settling in and getting into a routine with their newborn baby boy - Devi Douglas Emhoff.

Kamala and Doug have been absolutely enjoying parenthood and they are so happy to have Devi in their lives. Devi is their miracle boy and he is everything that Kamala and Doug could have imagined he would be.

Kerstin, Cole, Ella, Sam and Greenley all just left DC  today after visiting Kamala, Doug and Devi for two days.

Kamala and Doug both really enjoyed the time they spent with Kerstin, Cole, Ella, Sam and Greenley and they both cannot wait for them to come back in town for the holidays!

Right now, Kamala is laying on the couch with Devi on her chest, while Doug is upstairs taking a much needed shower.

Even though Joe and Jill both told Kamala to not do any work for a few months so she can rest, relax and bond with Devi just like many women who take having maternity leave in the USA.

However, Kamala is extremely stubborn and is too work driven to just relax at home, so is she doing some work anyway. Kamala is still resting while she works so Joe and Jill couldn't get mad at her.

Also, Kamala doesn't want the press to talk bad about her not doing any work due to being on maternity leave, even though she knows most people will understand. Kamala knows how important her job of Vice President is and she wants to do as much as she can during her maternity leave.

Kamala is reading some important papers while Devi cuddles with her. Devi's favorite thing to do is to cuddle Kamala or Doug!

Doug walks into the living room where Devi and Kamala were sitting. Kamala looks up and smiles at Doug and Doug smiles back at Kamala.

"I love when your hair is wet like that. It's sexy." Kamala says causing Doug to blush before he bends down to kiss her a few times.

"And you look sexy too with my clothes on." Doug says, making Kamala blush and smile at him. 

"Thank you, baby. I love you." Kamala says with a cheeky grin at Doug.

"I love you too! Aw, you put the onesie that Cole got for Devi! So cute." Doug says as he kisses Devi's cheek.

"Mhm! I took a picture of Devi wearing it for Cole to see! He loves it." Kamala says happily to Doug.

"It feels so good to relax and not have to worry about any work." Doug says as he sits down on the couch by Kamala's feet.

"I know it's relaxing! But I'm keeping myself informed with everything by reading the briefings." Kamala says as Doug nods and smiles.

Devi opens his eyes for a few seconds before yawning and shutting them again.

"Hi, baby boy! Hi! Are you cuddling with Mama? Yes, you are!" Doug asks Devi in a babyfied voice causing Kamala to smile.

"He loves to cuddle with me. And you! He is a cuddly baby." Kamala says, rubbing Devi's head as he sleeps.

"He really is. We are so lucky." Doug says, rubbing Kamala's legs tenderly.

"We sure are, Dougie." Kamala says as she kisses Doug again.

Kamala's iPhone begins to ring and it is Joe. Kamala finds this small detail kind of strange because it is usually Jill who calls her or one of Joe's assistants who call Kamala if Joe needs to talk to her.

"Hey, Dougie?" Kamala says softly to Doug with a cheeky smile.

"Yes, honey?" Doug says as he walks over to Kamala and softly kisses her.

"Can you take Devi for a little bit? Joe is calling me. It might be about the Afghanistan war ending soon and I might need to sit in a Zoom meeting for a few hours." Kamala says to Doug as she softly kisses Devi's cheek.

"Of course! Come here, Devi! Let's look at some fantasy football things while Mama works!" Doug says in a babyfied voice at Devi as he coos and wiggles around.

Kamala fixes her hair some, even though the phone call isn't a FaceTime call.

"Hey, Joe! What's up? How are you today?" Kamala asks Joe as she then hears Joe crying on the other line.

"Joe? Joe? Joe? Are you okay? Are you okay? What's wrong?" Kamala asks in lots of worry, causing Doug to walk over to listen to Kamala and Joe's conversation as he holds Devi.

"H-h-hey, Kamala. And n-n-o... I'm not okay! I'm not okay a-a-a-at all! Something is terribly wrong with Jill! Something is really really wrong with Jill!" Joe yells as he cries out, making Kamala's heart absolutely break for Joe.

"Joe, take some deep breaths. Take some deep breaths for me. I need you to slow down your talking a little so I can help you, okay? What's going on with Jill?" Kamala asks Joe as Doug sits down next to Kamala on the couch with Devi.

"I-I-I don't know! I really d-d-don't know! She had some stomach pains last night after we went out to eat. She thought the stomach pains were just from the food she just ate, the food we had was s-s-spicy. And t-t-then this morning she w-w-was bleeding down there and she was in s-s-so much pain! I-I-I can't loose her, Kamala!" Joe yells, hyphenating and crying at the same time.

Kamala and Doug both tear up as they both hear Joe's pain and worry of his wife of over forty years. Kamala is really worried for her mother figure in her life.

"Where is Jill at now, Joe? Is she with you?" Kamala asks Joe softly.

"She is o-o-o-on her way to the hospital! They wouldn't l-l-let me go with her! I told Secret Service to tell the doctors to do anything and everything to save her! I'm packing up our things from Camp David and I'll be on my w-w-way to the hospital." Joe says to Kamala as he runs around the house getting everything to leave.

"Joe, listen to me, it is going to be okay. I promise you. I promise! Jill is such a strong lady and she will get through this. Does Hunt, Ashley and Hallie know?" Kamala says to Joe as she and Doug hold hands.

"N-n-no! I don't want any of them or that grandkids panicking! Especially Ashley. I really don't want her to go into early l-labor. I didn't know who else to call." Joe says to Kamala as he sits down and relaxes.

"I'm glad you called me, Joe. Please please please keep me updated on Jill, okay?" Kamala says to Joe.

"I w-w-will. Thank you so much for listening to me.  I love you, Kamala. Thank you for being here." Joe says softly to Kamala.

"Aw, I love you too Joe! Please keep me and Doug updated, okay? We will be praying for Jill," Kamala says softly to Joe.

"Thank you, Kamala. Talk to you later." Joe says to Kamala.

"Talk to you later, Joe." Kamala says ending her conversation with Joe.

Kamala then looks up and Doug and hugs him tightly, worried sick about Jill's health and Joe's mental health.

"God I hope nothing is wrong with Jill. Jill is Joe's everything. He will be a lost soul if she passes away." Kamala says with a frown.

"Don't think like that. Jill is going to the best hospital possible and they will help her feel better and recover from whatever health struggle she is dealing with right now." Doug says as Kamala nods.

Kamala kisses Doug and Doug kisses her back, before they cuddle each other on the couch.

Kamala, Doug and Devi spend the afternoon together as they wait for Joe to call them back!

- A Few Hours Later -
It has been a few hours since Joe frantically called Kamala. It has been radio silence since and Kamala is starting to think the worse.

Kamala is currently making a quick dinner for herself and Doug to have while Doug is feeding Devi his dinner bottle.

"Have you heard anything about Jill yet, sweety?" Doug asks Kamala as he begins to burp Devi on his shoulder.

Kamala sighs loudly and shakes her head no, causing Doug to frown.

"Nope. I am really staring to get worried, Dougie. I hope nothing is wrong or even worse." Kamala says to Doug and Doug nods, rubbing Kamala's shoulder.

"I'm sure Jill and Joe are just waiting for test results to come in. You know how slow hospitals can be. And plus due to the pandemic, hospitals are 20x slower it feels like." Doug says to Kamala and Kamala nods.

"I hope that's all it is!" Kamala says as she smiles at Devi and Doug together.

Once Kamala finishes making a family size Pan Stouffer's Chicken Lasagna, she and Doug walk into the living room to sit and watch TV as they eat!

Devi is comfortably sleeping in his swing as he holds onto his small koala bear that Meena's girls Amara and Leela got for him before he was born.

"Thank you for dinner tonight, honey. I love you." Doug says kissing Kamala.

"I love you too! And you're welcome! Thank you for everything you have done these past few days. It means a lot to me." Kamala says as Doug smiles at her, looking into her chocolate brown eyes.

"Anything you, my love." Doug says as he kisses Kamala before taking a sip of his Coke.

Kamala and Doug find a show on Netflix to watch and they begin to eat their dinner together.

A few minutes later, Kamala's phone begins to ring again. It's Joe and this time it's a FaceTime call.

"DOUGIE! It's Joe! It's Joe! He wants to FaceTime!" Kamala says with excitement, causing Doug to chuckle and smile.

"Answer it! Answer it!" Doug says with a smile as he wipes off his face with a napkin before scooting closer to Kamala. 

Kamala answers the FaceTime call and she and Doug see Joe standing in a hospital room with a humungous smile on his face. Kamala feels instant relief seeing Joe's humungous smile, because that's means Jill is fine.

"JOEEEEEE!" Kamala says loudly as she gets excited to see Joe smiling and not crying like he was earlier in the day.

"Hey, Joe! Kamala and I have been thinking about you guys all day today!" Doug says as Kamala nods in agreement.

"Hey, Kamala and Doug! And thank you guys so much for keeping Jill in your thoughts and prayers. It truly means a lot to the both of us. Today has just been a crazy day full of a whirlwind of emotions! Today has probably been one of the wildest but the most incredible days of my life." Joe says with a big chuckle.  

"How is Jill? How is Jill doing?" Kamala asks Joe, anxious wanting to know how Jill is.

"Jill is great! Jill had to have emergency surgery this afternoon and she is in some pain, but she is doing really well. You know she is strong and fiesty and will be up and at 'em in no time!" Joe says happily causing Kamala and Doug to both smile.

"I'm sorry that Jill had to have emergency surgery today! Surgery really sucks!" Doug says to Joe.

"Surgery does suck! Is there anything we can do for you guys?" Kamala asks as she takes a quick bite of her dinner.

"No no, you two need to rest yourselves. You two have a newborn after all. And well, this surgery had a surprise of an outcome actually. A very big surprise!" Joe says as he sits down next to Jill's hospital bed.

"A surprise? What do you mean by a surprise, Joe?" Kamala asks Joe curiously and Doug nods in confusion.

"Well, I'll show you two! And Jill wants to say hello! Jill thinks she looks awful but she looks drop dead gorgeous to me. She always does to me." Joe says as he turns his iPhone camera around and he shows Jill laying in her hospital bed holding a small infant on her chest.

The infant with blondish brown hair is fast asleep on Jill's bare chest, holding onto her Beau necklace.

"Hi, Kamala and Doug!" Jill says softly as she smiles at Kamala and Doug.

"Hi, Jill! You look great!" Doug says as he waves at Jill.

"Hey, Jill! We have been worrying about you! And who's baby is that? WAIT! DID ASHLEY HAVE HER BABY?" Kamala says with excitement as Doug giggles and smiles.

"You guys are grandparents again! Congrats!" Doug says happily.

"No no, this isn't Ashley's baby. She is still very much pregnant for another few weeks! This is Jill and I's baby." Joe says as he smiles at Kamala and Doug before looking over at Jill and the baby.

Doug and Kamala both gasp, confused and shocked by this news of Joe and Jill somehow with a baby. Where did the baby come from?

"So Jill has stomach pains last night and then today the stomach pains are worse, plus she was bleeding. Jill then goes to the hospital, has emergency surgery and now you two are adopting a baby?" Doug says trying to put these puzzle pieces together but nothing is adding up.

Kamala is also very confused and she is trying to figure this out and not look silly.

Jill and Joe both chuckle loudly at each other as they see Doug and Kamala trying to attempt to put the puzzle pieces together and they aren't doing well.

"Well, actually, the pains Jill was having today and last night were contractions. Jill was pregnant and her surgery she had today was an emergency c-section and hysterectomy. Now we have this little guy." Joe says as he holds the baby's hand and smiles at Jill.

"WAIT? WHAT?" Kamala yells loudly at Jill and Joe, causing both of them to chuckle.

"Wow! Did you guys know about this? And why didn't you tell us about the baby?" Doug asks both Jill and Joe curious on their answer.

"Right! Why didn't you tell us! We were pregnant together, Jill! That is so cool!" Kamala says as she laughs her famous laugh, causing Jill to also laugh and smile.

"That's the thing, Kamala. I had absolutely no idea I was even pregnant. I had no pregnancy symptoms, I didnt feel him move around or have anything happen for me to think I was pregnant in the first place. I obviously know what pregnancy feels like and this pregnancy and Ashley's pregnancy were completely different. I gained a few pounds but I just assumed it was stressed due to the campaign and the administration starting up. Same with my back pain, I just assumed it was stress and my age." Jill explains to Kamala and Kamala smiles.

"Oh my goodness! Well you clearly didn't look pregnant to us! You look great then and you look great now! What a little miracle that little guy is! Devi has a best friend now!" Kamala says as she cheers, causing Doug, Jill and Joe all smile.

"I didn't notice anything either, which really surprised me to be honest. Jill looked the exact same, her body didn't change any, still so beautiful even now she is beautiful. When Jill was pregnant with Ashley, I felt her move around all the time in Jill's stomach. I felt no movement from this baby. I felt nothing, not even gas bubbles. And Jill and I never really thought this wouldn't be a possibility." Joe says, all nestled up besides Jill in the hospital bed and Jill nods in agreement.

"We are in our 70s and we had no idea this could honestly happen! But we are so glad it did. It's a humungous shock, a lot of things are going to change but life is just going to be even better." Jill says as Joe smiles and kisses her and the baby.

"I'm an emotional mess right now! This is the craziest but the best news ever!" Kamala says as she tears up, thanks to her postpartum hormones.

"This is such wonderful news! Congratulations to you both!" Doug says with a big smile at Jill and Joe.

"Yes! Congratulations!" Kamala says with a cheeky grin.

"Thank you!" Jill and Joe both say in unison to Kamala and Doug.

"So, does your new little guy have a name?" Doug asks Jill and Joe.

"If he doesn't have a name yet, don't rush! Take all of the time you guys need!" Kamala says, causing Joe to chuckle and Jill to smile.

"Joe and I are thinking of naming him Jacob. Jacobs is my maiden name and Joe and I said if we ever had a boy then we would give him a name from my side of the family, but we had Ashley and the boys chose her name. Now we can finally use that name." Jill says proudly and smiles down at Jacob sleeping on her.

"But we have NO ideas on middle names yet!" Joe says playfully causing Kamala and Doug to laugh.

"We have some middle name ideas, we just haven't decided yet." Jill says playfully back to Joe, Kamala and Doug.

"Aw, Devi and Jacob! Born four days apart! They will definitely be best friends!" Kamala says with a big happy grin.

"We both can't wait to meet Jacob and for our boys to meet and be friends." Doug says happily and Kamala nods in agreement.

"And we can't wait to finally meet Devi! I am so excited to be his Nana." Jill says with a smile.

"Jacob can't wait to meet his Auntie Kamala and Uncle Doug as well." Joe says as Jill nods happily.

"Yes! You two will be Auntie and Uncle to Jacob. We want you guys to have a close bond with him just like Joe and I will have a close bond with Devi." Jill says to Kamala and Doug.

"Oh my gosh! I love that!" Kamala says, tearing up again and Doug smiles.

"Should I go get Devi from his swing so that they can see each other?" Doug asks Kamala and Kamala finds this very cute but not appropriate since the boys are both newborns.

"No, Dougie. Let Devi sleep and Jacob is sleeping too." Kamala says to Doug softly.

"Yeah, Doug. Let Devi sleep. You never wake up a newborn! You two need to enjoy the leave and quiet while you can. Jacob and Devi will have plenty of time to bond and okay together. I'm sure we've both got our hands full for a while now." Joe says, still not completely understanding that he and Jill just had another baby this late in life but he is excited for fatherhood for the fifth time.

"When are you guys coming home from the hospital? Doug and I want to be one of the first people to meet Jacob!" Kamala says happily.

"Probably a week from now. They want to do some more testing on Jacob just to make sure he is healthy since I had no prenatal care while i was pregnant with him. Also, the doctors want to keep me just to make sure my incision is healing well." Jill explains to Kamala and Doug.

"Well, Dougie and I will see what we have to give to you guys! I'm sure we have some preemie size clothes for Jacob to wear since he is smaller than Devi is." Kamala says to Jill and Joe.

"And we can always share diapers and wipes too! We have a million boxes of both!" Doug says with a grin.

"We really appreciate it you guys. Hallie, Ashley, Melissa, Val, the grandkids and my sisters told me they are in charge of baby stuff while I recover and Joe stays with Jacob and I." Jill says to Kamala and Doug, appreciative of their kindness to give Devi's things to Jacob.

"Aww, we will definitely help out too!" Kamala says happily and Doug smiles at Jill and Joe.

Kamala, Doug, Jill and Joe talk for a few more minutes before ending the FaceTime call!
