Rin is actually a half-american and Half-Japanese, originally born in Japan. He didn't meet his mother, his father said that she died on giving birth on Rin.

Rin lived in depression when he knew that his father flew away from Japan and worked in California without even knowing it. Which he lived in a small apartment in tokyo

Rin's language accent are no different from the Japanese accent yet he speaks in english with no struggle at all.
