Kaldur went to visit his queen in Atlantis for a few hours. He heard of this holiday on the surface called Mother's Day so it felt right for him just to see how she was doing since he hasn't gotten a chance for a casual visit. He was told by one of the guardsmen that she was in her quarters. He went to her room and knocked on her door.

"Come in," she called out.

Kaldur opened the door and smiled at her.

"Hello, Kaldur. It is wonderful to see you," Mera greeted cheerfully as she got up to embrace him.

"It is wonderful to see you as well my queen," Kaldur said as he returned the embrace.

"You have always been so formal Kaldur. What brings you to my room my son. Has something occurred?" she asked slightly worried.

"No no, my queen. Everything is well. I simply wanted to come by since we have not talked as of these past few weeks."

"That is awfully kind of you, my son, but Kaldur, I know you. You do not go anywhere without a specific reason."

"You know me too well my queen," he said with a small chuckle.

"I have had many years to know you. Sit my son," she said as she motioned to the bed.

Kaldur sat on the bed as his queen took his hands into hers.

"Kaldur, you are a son to me. I want you to be honest with me. I do not want there to be any secrets between us. Do you understand?" 

"I understand. On the surface, my queen there is a holiday called Mother's Day. One of my friends told me it is a day where were honor our mothers. I just wanted to come by and tell you that I appreciate all you have done for me over these years. I know it was not easy with all of my, issues, but you still took care of me. I never really got the chance to say thank you. So thank you," Kaldur explained in a soft timid voice.

Mera had small tears in her eyes. She wrapped her arms around her son.

"Kaldur, you do not have to thank me. When you came to us all those years ago, I made a vow to love and protect you. You will always be my son." Mera said softly in his ear.

"And you will always be my mother," he whispered back to her.

They say and talked for hours about Kaldur's adventures and comrades and his life. He got a call from Robin about a new mission and he said goodbye to his queen with a bow, kiss and a hug. He made his way to surface not knowing he was going regret his decision.
