.Chapter 34: stargazing.
I stand up after Reginald's speech is over, walking over to the 'DJ' booth, I request a song, wanting to sing from my heart for Marah. Now this may just be the drinks talking but I think it's time to serenade her.
"Hey, man. Can we do 'If the world was ending'?" I ask, Chet, who's djing for us.
He nods his head, grabbing the microphone. "Time to turn those frowns upside down! This one is for all the party peoplein the place."
He hands me the microphone before starting the music. I see that everyone is in their own worlds, the only eyes on me being Marahs.
I was distracted
And in traffic
I didn't feel it
When the earthquake happened
But it really got me thinkin'
Were you out drinkin'?
Were you in the living room
chillin watchin television?
It's been a year now
I think I've figured out how
How to let you go and let communication die out
I know, you know, we know
You weren't down for forever and it's fine
I know, you know, we know
We weren't mean't for each other and it's fine
But if the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
You'd come over and you'd stay the night
Would you love me for the hell of it?
All our fears would be irrelevant
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
The sky'd be falling and I'd hold you tight
And there wouldn't be a reason why
We would even have to say goodbye
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
Right?
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
Right?
I smile as I see Marah stand up from our table and walk towards me, stumbling slightly. By now, all the conversations have stopped as everyone watches us. Marah holds onto the microphone with me and starts singing as well, looking into my eyes.
I tried to imagine
Your reaction
It didn't scare me when the earthquake happened
But it really got me thinkin'
That night we went drinkin'
Stumbled in the house
And didn't make it past the kitchen
Ah, it's been a year now
Think I've figured out how
How to think about you without it rippin' my heart out
I know, you know, we know
You weren't down for forever and it's fine
I know, you know, we know
We weren't mean't for each other and it's fine
But if the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
You'd come over and you'd stay the night
Would you love me for the hell of it?
All our fears would be irrelevant
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
The sky'd be falling while I'll hold you tight
No, there wouldn't be a reason why
We would even have to say goodbye
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
You'd come over, right?
You'd come over, you'd come over, you'd come over, right?
I know, you know, we know
You weren't down for forever and it's fine
I know, you know, we know
We weren't mean't for forever and it's fine
But if the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
You'd come over and stay the night
Would you love me for the hell of it?
All our fears would be irrelevant
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
The sky'd be falling while I hold you tight
No, there wouldn't be a reason why
We would even have to say goodbye
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
You'd come over, you'd come over, you'd come over, right?
If the world was ending
You'd come over, right?
I look at Marah and smile, pulling her in, I kiss her softly as the cheers of our siblings erupt in the background. I set the microphone down and pull her in tighter, deepening the kiss. A new song plays throughout the ballroom.
Everyone walks over to the steps, sitting down as we all take in the night. Looking out the windows, the world is pink, red, orange, and yellow outside. I bring the bottle of champagne to my lips, drinking about half before Marah takes it from me and drinks the other half.
"Hey, you know something?" Luther asks, catching all of our attention. "Tonight is all I ever really wanted."
"To get hitched?" Marah slurs, showing just how much we've drunken.
'Ah fuck it, we got married.' I think to myself, smiling as I pull her impossibly closer.
"Just... everybody coming togetherwhen it really matters." Luther answers, a smile on his face. "One big real family."
I couch before throwing up, the alcohol not mixing well with the little I've eaten.
"Whoa! Whoa!" I hear everyone yell around me. I feel soft hands rubbing circles on my back.
"Oh, I think I'm gonna hurl." I hear Marah whisper beside me. "Actually, uh, I think I'm hungry."
I stand up slowly, grabbing Marah's hand and pulling her up with me, her balance slightly off as she stumbles into me. "See ya, guys. We're gonna hit the buffet."
We walk away, hand in hand as we go to the buffet. Grabbing a bunch of food we start to make our way back upstairs. A bowl of cereal sits in one hand and Marah's hand in the other, while Marah has a bowl of fruit.
We make our way through the floors, stumbling throughout each floor, making our way to the top floor where our room is.
Marah falls to the ground, pulling me down with her. She giggles, letting me know she's okay, me still laying on top of her, using my arm strength to make sure I don't crush her.
"I quite like this position, Mrs. Hargreeves." I whisper, placing kisses on her neck to her shoulder.
"Me too, Mr. Hargreeves." Marah smiles, leaning her neck more to give me more access before flipping us over so that she's sitting in my lap. She leans her lips by my ear, whispering in my ear and biting my ear, causing a shudder to flow through me. "But I quite like this one more."
"With everythingwe've discussed," I hear the voice of our father say. Looking to my right, I see the door is slightly open in the suite and I see Reginald standing in the middle, talking with someone. "it'd be folly to wait. There is no time. I can't do this without you. Do we have a deal?"
He holds out his hand and shakes it with the other person he's talking to. I sit up, holding Marah's thighs and try to blink us away, but the alcohol has taken over as I blink us against the nearby wall.
"Why don't you show me to our room, Mr. Hargreeves?" Marah whispers, her voice sultry as she leaves kisses from my jaw to my lips, having not heard what her father was saying.
I nod my head, kissing her back on the lips as she starts on unbuttoning my shirt more as I carry us back to our room, forgetting about what Reginald had said.
