.Chapter 14: questions.
We walk up towards the area with the pool table, needing more privacy to talk about our findings than the bar.
The young boy, Stanley, swings one of the pool sticks around, doing very bad karate.
"I'm so confused." Diego states, looking down at the book with all the information on our mothers.
"Shocking." Marah mutters, causing Diego to scowl and the rest of us to smile at the idea of having my Marah back.
"Well, someone killed our mothers, so we shouldn't exist." I state, needing to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible so that I can finally relax. "But clearly, we do exist, and the universe can't handle it,which is a problem. Big problem."
"Yah!" Stanley yells out, causing all of us to turn our heads towards the boy.
"Stanley!" Diego yells, scolding his son who looks nothing like him. "Now is not the time to be doing karate, okay?"
"Mom said I need to practice." Stanley argues, causing us all to nod our heads agreeing with his mother.
"Yeah, well, she's not wrong." Diego mutters, only letting us hear. "You're very bad."
"Well, I saved you're pathetic ass." Stanley retorts, causing Marah to let out a laugh.
"Okay, hold on." Viktor states, trying to stop a fight from brewing. "Five, so we caused a paradox. What does that mean?"
"It's hard to say." I state. "It's all been theoretical until now,but things have started to disappear."
"What things?" Allison asks, looking bored out of her mind.
"Right now?" I question, confused as to why she needs to know. "Uh, lobsters."
"And a shit ton of cows!" Marah exclaims with Klaus as they sit up on the pool table.
"But I have a feelingthis is just the beginning." I state, looking at each of my siblings and Marah.
"A feeling? Aren't you retired?" Allison states, a hint of anger in her voice.
"I want nothing more." I state, glaring towards her.
"You know, you can't drag us through hell because you have an itchonly an apocalypse can scratch and then expect usto deal with the fallout." Allison states, getting up in my face. Out of the corner of my eye I see Marah stand up and move closer towards her, her hands having heat radiating off of them. "You're not the boss."
"Fine, he's the messenger." Marah states, her hands cooling down as Allison steps away from me, a smirk finding it's way to my face.
"And I'm telling yousomething terrible is coming." I state, continuing with what I already know.
"Then let's go attack the Sparrows, get the briefcase, and go home." Allison states, a look of anger flashing through her eyes as she glances towards Marah, who's hands have started to heat up again.
"This is our home, Allison. Accept it." I state quietly, not needing a fight to happen right now.
Suddenly an object breaks in the distance, causing us all to turn our heads towards Stanley who stands next to a broken vase with a guilty look on his face.
"That's it! I'm telling your mom." Diego yells.
"Ooh!" Stanley mocks as Diego starts to walk towards him.
"Wait, where's Lila?" I ask, kind of liking this new information.
"Shower. I told her she could stay with us." Stanley states.
"Wait. When did Lila get back?" Viktor asks the question both of us are thinking.
I grab Marah's hand after she's cooled them down enough so that I don't burn my hand and we start walking off, looking for Lila, as much as I don't want to.
"Five, where are you going?" Viktork asks, causing the attention of my siblings to fall on me and Marah.
"Go talk to somebodywho only has half her head up her ass." I state, Marah scowling at the thought of seeing her again.
'me to love, me too.' I think to myself.
"Don't leave, Five. Don't leave. Don't take Marah from us." Klaus whines, not wanting to be left with our idiotic siblings.
"No, Klaus. We're leaving." I state, walking away with Marah's hand still sitting perfectly in mine.
We walk down the halls as we look for the bathroom that Lila's in. As we walk I glance over to see Marah with a slight blush on her cheeks as she looks down at our conjoined hands. Looking back up, a smirk forms on my face at the thought of finally getting her back.
"Five?" I hear Marah ask me, pulling me out of my trance. I hum, causing her to continue with what she was going to say. "Do you think it's weird that I've remembered so quickly?"
I blink at her, thrown off with her question. I stare into her honey colored eyes, with a hint of gold in them, thinking of my answer.
"No. I don't think it's weird." I answer, my voice is significantly softer than it was before. "Why? Do you think it's weird?"
I focus on her and not so much on her eyes, hoping she has the same answer as me. By now we've stopped walking and we're just standing in the hallway, outside of the bathroom Lila is in.
"I don't know." Marah whispers. I feel my face fall with the thought of her not wanting to remember. "I want to remember, I really do. But if I remember, will that make me forget my family?"
I look down towards her, moving my hand that's not clasped with hers to her cheek as I stroke it softly. "No. I don't think you'll ever forget your family. You'll just have remembered your old family."
She thinks for a second before a smile forms on her face, sending my heart to speed up slightly. I bring our connected hands up to my lips and I gently kiss her hand before pulling her with me into the bathroom, where we see Lila sitting in the tub.
"The hell are you doing in here?" I ask, though I already know what she's doing. 'god, I wish it was Marah in there instead of her.' I think to myself, snapping out of my thoughts at Lila's answer.
"Shaving my nest, you little perv." Lila retorts, lowering her leg back into the water. "Perv's girlfriend."
"Don't flatter yourself, Lila." Marah smirks, sarcasm dripping from her voice as she moves closer towards me.
"I like my women a little less likely to kill me in my sleep." I state, looking at Marah to see her already looking at me.
"We're all learning so much about each other." Lila comments. I see her start to reach behind her, causing me to be slightly on edge.
"Mm." I hum, moving Marah out of the way as Lila throws a knife straight for me. I blink away before it can hit me. I land across the room as Lila appears behind me.
We start hitting, kicking, and punching each other as I see Marah out of the corner of my eye creating flowers out of fire as she watches the both of us fight. The whole time, I keep my focus solely on Lila's face, not looking down once.
I grab a shampoo bottle and squirt it in her eyes as she goes to attack me again.
"All right, enough." Lila grunts, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around her body. Marah walks over to us and grabs onto my hand as she sits down on the tub.
"I'd forgotten how much I hate you, you puny turd." Lila comments, getting the shampoo out of her eyes.
"The feelings mutual, Lila." I reply, my thumb rubbing over Marah's hand. "As much as I'd love to stand hereshivving each other, I have bigger concerns than you."
"Yeah? Like what?" Lila asks, sarcasm dripping from her words.
"First of all the fact that you choose to go through a whole fight while naked." Marah comments, causing Lila to glare at her and me to bite my lip to stop myself from smiling.
"What do you know about the grandfather paradox?" I ask, having calmed myself back down. My thumb continues to move across Marah's hand as I talk with Lila.
