.Chapter 13: kicked the bucket.
After Klaus's big reveal that all of their mother's don't exist in this timeline, we race back to the hotel looking for the rest of the Umbrella's.
We run into the hotel, hearing the voices of Diego, Viktor, and Allison in the bar. We race over there to see Diego and Viktor at a table as Allison is up at the bar.
"Can I get another one?" Allison asks to the bartender behind the bar.
"Okay, gather round, people." Five states, gathering his family. I jump up on top of the bar, not really sure if I should be a part of this conversation as it's not my family. "Where is...Where's every...Where's Luther?"
"Haven't seen him." Diego states.
"Who knows?" Viktor answers.
"Anybody know where...Okay, you know what?" Five starts, cutting himself off to focus on the problem at hand, that their mothers don't exist. "We got bigger problemsto worry about right now."
"Like what?" Allison asks, who looks like she just wants to drown her sorrows at this point.
"This." I state, pointing to the book, wanting to be included now.
The three other siblings look at the book confused, not knowing what they need to be looking at.
"Who are they?" Viktor asks, asking the question both Diego and Allison wanted to ask as well.
"These are our mothers. Excluding Marah's." Five states, adding that last part quietly as if to not alert his siblings of that fact.
"This one's mine." Klaus says softly, pointing to the woman from the photo of the Amish farm we were just chased out of.
"They're all dead. They all died on the exact same day," Five says, stopping to build suspense for whatever reason. "October 1st, 1989."
"That's our birthday." Viktor states the obvious.
"Not anymore, it isn't." I state, reaching over the bar and grabbing a random bottle and opening it up, taking a sip.
"They all died before we were born." Five adds on, looking at all his siblings before his eyes land on me and the bottle.
"That's dumb If we weren't born, how can we exist?" Diego asks, not realizing the severity of the issue.
"Exactly." Five answers, agreeing with everything Diego just said.
"What are you saying?" Allison asks, a new emotion swirling in her eyes, one that makes me take another sip of the liquor to hide my slight fear of her.
"I'm saying, when we jumped here,we created a time paradox." Five starts to explain, but my head starts to get a little fuzzy so his voice becomes slightly muffled. "All right? Not just any paradox. This is the grandfather paradox."
"What the hell is a grandfather paradox?" Viktor asks, not knowing how severe the situation is.
Paradox Protocol
The Complete Commission Guideto Temporal Anomalies. Chapter 68, "The Grandfather Paradox."
"It's New Jersey, 1953, and Elmer Tatelman hates his grandfather." the narrator starts. "Elmer blames everythingon his grandfather. His mother's pain, his father's death, and his own sad life."
"How many times do I have to tell you,no goddamn peas!" the actor playing 'Elmer's' grandfather states harshly towards the actress playing 'Elmer's' mother.
"You don't like what I cook, you can make it yourself!" yells the mother as the grandfather flings the soup towards the mother.
"This could have beenjust another sad tale about soup," states the narrator, continuing with the story. "except for one thing. Elmer is about to invent...time travel. You see, Elmer has decidedthe key to his future happiness is to go back in time and kill his grandfather."
"Sidney Tatelman?" says the actor playing Elmer, as he stands in a set that looks like an old dinner set in the 1920's.
"That's me." says the actor playing the younger version of Elmer's grandfather. 'Elmer' pulls out a gun, aiming it towards his gradfather.
"Whoa!" gasps the young Sidney, causing the other patrons to freak out. Elmer fires the shot just as the frame freezes.
"Elmer completed his mission, but he's made one crucial mistake." the narrator continues. "He went too far back in time."
A woman moans in the background, as a new set is shown, of a young girl and a young boy in a car. "You're so beautiful." murmurs the young man. "Oh baby!" moans the young girl, looking up from the young man.
"You see, murdering his grandfather in 1905" states the narrator. "meant that Elmer's motherdidn't exist to meet his father in 1925. Which made certainthat Elmer himself was never born. Elmer killed his grandfather,so his mother was never born. But if his mother was never born,Elmer no longer exists. But if Elmer no longer exists, how could he possibly killhis grandfather?
"And around and around we go. Elmer has created a paradox, the grandfather paradox." the narrator continues. "The most pernicious problem in The Commission Handbookof Paradox Protocols. This story is not true. But if it were, Elmer would have placed and every living thing in grave peril. Don't be an Elmer! We've been lucky so far.
"With your help, constant vigilance, and a little strategic violence, the Commission will make certainnothing like this ever happens. Or God help us all.
As the rest of the siblings deal with their paradox problem, Luther stands outside of the Sparrow Academy with Sloane.
"Go on. Go!" Sloane laughs, pushing Luther away.
"But when will I see you again?" Luther asks, not walking away until he has an answer.
"Go on. Go before someone sees you." Sloane states, smiling.
Luther sighs with a smile on his face as he walks away from the Sparrow Academy and away from Sloane.
He walks through a park heading back towards the hotel. He smiles to himself as he looks around at everything around him. Luther stops as a homeless man throws up in front of him, the smile never leaving his face.
"Beautiful evening, isn't it?" Luther asks the couple that stands next to him. The couple shares a weird look as they look at Luther confused as to why he's so happy, no one knowing the real reason except for him.
Luther continues his way through the park, passing by a man with a cart full of items. Luther looks around before he grabs a thing of minutes.
"Yeah. How much, chief?" he asks the man working the kiosk.
"Two bucks." the man states, his cigar in his hand.
"Two." Luther says, more to himself. He reaches for his wallet as he notices the condoms on the wall. He looks up and starts to point towards them, not really knowing what to say. "Oh, and, uh...Some of...Some of those."
"Condoms?" the man asks, confused as to why Luther's so embarrassed.
"For sex." Luther says, causing both men to chuckle. "Which is a thing I do now." The man gives Luther a once over before he hands him the pack of condoms.
"Anything else...hmm." the man asks. Luther shakes his head just as a wave of energy pulses around him, causing all the lights and music to suddenly turn off.
Luther turns around, having heard the sudden silence and darkness in the park, he notices that the park is now empty. "Well...shit." Luther mumbles, knowing this isn't a good thing.
Luther turns back around ready to pay the man back. "Hey, did you..." Luther notices that the man isn't there anymore, only his half burned cigar sits on the ground. Luther looks around confused, before grabbing his mints and the pack of condoms and walks off towards the hotel to tell his siblings what he just saw.
