Kaia

This is not how I pictured spending my last free Saturday of the month. I've been laying here with this massive pounding in my head and a throat drier than Axel's jokes.

I swipe away a couple of notifications on my phone, hoping atleast one of them would be from Ashton. Guess he's still busy, huh?

Seeing as it was nearing twelve noon, I decide on getting out of bed and making my way slowly to the kitchen.

Soon as I enter the kitchen I'm greeted by the sight of Axel's bare back and black jeans that hung way too low. Here we go again.

"You know, you're not the only one in this house, right? Atleast put some clothes on" I scold him.

"Ah, you're up just in time" He says, moving aside to reveal two plates stacked with food.

"You cooked?" I ask in disbelief, gulping down some water with my painkillers. The cool liquid immediately quenching my thirst and soothing my aching throat.

Axel turns to me with folded arms and an annoyed look on his face.

"Of course I cooked. I'm the complete package, babe. Good looks, lots of charm and I can cook. I'm every woman's dream."

"Yeahhh, not mine" I laugh, moving to take a seat on one of the stools. I'm starving.

"Shut up" Axel mumbles, dropping a plate infront of me. "Here, eat up. A full English breakfas--- well, lunch."

"It looks so good, I'm very suprised you made this" I admit, scanning over the contents of my very large plate.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. I only do this on special occasions though" Axel tells me.

"Oh yeah? Well what's the occasion?" I ask curiously, picking up a fork and digging in.

Axel sucks in a breath and moves to sit by me.

"I want to apologise for last night. I got you so wasted you fell off your bed and hit your head and I'm just incredibly sorry" He rambles, giving me a serious look.

Oh...so that's why my head hurts like hell..

"It's totally fine" I assure him, continuing to feed my face. "And this makes up for it. Don't worry about the massive pounding in my head or my hangover. No big deal."

"Oh come on!" Axel argues playfully, bursting out in laughter. "Now you're making me feel so fucking bad. You're horrible, you know that?"

I couldn't help but laugh too. It was funny seeing him all uneasy over something I don't even remember. I shook my head and took a sip of my tea.

"Eat your food, it's getting cold" I tell Axel and watch as he quickly digs in, complying right away.

After filling my stomach till it was content, I tidied up around the place and started on my laundry. Axel volunteered to wash the dishes for me which was nice of him. Even though I was in the middle of doing chores, at the back of my mind it still bugged me that I hadn't heard from Ash so I made up my mind that I would call him later.

"Hey Kaia, I'm going to step out for a bit. I'll be back later" Axel calls out. I hear keys jingle and the sound of the front door opening.

"Okay, see ya!" I answer him from my place in the room. I hadn't realised I left this place in such a mess. Clothes scattered all around the floor. I couldn't tell which were dirty or clean. Looks like they're all going for a wash now.

While the load was on, I hopped up on the kitchen counter, phone in hand. I was done with Ash's ways. I was so ready to call him and give him a piece of my mind.

With anxious fingers I dial his number and place the phone to my ear.

Come on, ring...

Ring..

"...and straight to voice-mail. Why am I not suprised?" I tell myself, disappointed once again.

I wait till the beep so I can leave my message.

"Hey, umm.. it's been awhile. You haven't answered any of my calls or texts. I'm beginning to worry. I know you're busy but are you really that busy you can't even FaceTime your girlfriend for five minutes?!" I spit angrily into the phone. Just realised I had so much anger building up from how he was treating me.

"And when are you coming home? Can you please just call me for heavens sake! I can't keep waiting around my phone all day,  Asht---"

Your voice message has been recorded.

"Dammit! I wasn't done!" I say angrily through gritted teeth as if the operator could hear me.

I hop off the counter and head to check on my washing. It should be done by now. Just as I'm unloading the dryer, there was a knock on the front door. I left the clothes in my laundry basket and walked to the door.

"That was fast" I say as I pull the door open. He literally just left awhile ago.

"What?" Asks a very confused face.

I'm surprised when it's not Axel standing on the other side, but Dani.

"Oh" I gasp, slightly embarrassed. "Dani, come in" I tell her, moving aside to let her tiny frame in.

She steps inside and slips out of her jacket, placing it neatly by the couch before diving on it.

"I'm sorry I've been a shitty friend lately. This internship is driving me nuts. I feel like I hardly see you or anyone at all for a matter of fact" Dani rambles, sighing into a cushion.

"You're a busy lady now, I get it! Plus, classes start next week so atleast I get to see you" I remind her cheerfully.

"You're right" she answers happily, kicking her shoes off. "By the way, where's Ashton? I wanted to interview him for a pi---why are you looking at me like that? What's wrong?"

"It's nothing, really" I assure her, clearing my throat.

"Come on, K. You're my best friend, I think I know when something's up. Now spill" she presses further, patting the space beside her.

I move to sit beside her and sigh loudly. How do I explain how I'm feeling? I scratch my head abit, trying to figure out where to start. Dani watches me carefully, examining my facial expressions. She looks very scary when she does that. I swallow hard while under her gaze. Where do I begin?

"Well, getting straight to the point, Ash's been gone for weeks on a trip to Europe. He doesn't call me or text me that much. He can't hold a conversation for more than five minutes. He always says he's busy. I'm losing it, I can't take it anymore. I'm so used to being with him and hearing from him throughout the day, it's hard adapting to this new behavior he's giving me" I explain, feeling a little silly now that I've blurted all that out loud.

Dani shakes her head and smiles at me. I wonder if she heard everything I had just said.

"Kaia, do you trust him?" She simply asks, still smiling at me.

I think about her question a little longer than I should've. Of course I trust him. I don't have any reasons not to. Why would she ask me that?

"I do trust him" I finally respond, leaning back into the plush cushion. My eyes fixed on Dani.

"Then you have absolutely nothing to worry about" she tells me, giving my arm a playful slap.

I simply nod and give her a small smile. Did I really have nothing to worry about? How could she be so sure?

"Oh and darling, don't forget, the phone works both ways- you could always call him or text when he isn't blowing up your phone. You're his girl after all" she tells me before standing up and waltzing to the fridge.

"Don't you think I've tried that?! It's going straight to voice-mail" I call out from the living room. Dani was rummaging through my fridge. I could hear the countless glass bottles and whatnot being moved aside.

Few minutes later she reappears into the living room with some ice cream and spoons, her face tinted with concern.

"Well then, I guess you do have something to worry about."
