*Ashoka was born to the Mauryan emperor, Bindusara and Subhadrangi.
He was the grandson of Chandragupta maurya.
*From the various sources that speak of his life, Ashoka is believed to have had five wives.
* Buddhist legends state that Ashoka was bad tempered and of a wicked nature.
* While the early part of Ashoka reign was apparently quite bloodthirsty, he became a follower of the Buddha teaching after his conquest of the kalinga.
* Ashoka ruled for an estimated 36 years and died in 232 BC.
Legend states that during his cremation,his body burned for seven days and nights.
* Ashoka was the role model that he provided for the relationship between Buddhism and the state.
