Izuku
[Not an Opinion up to date with new chpaters]
Re-ika: I have to speak about this one. This one and Kirishima will most likely have the most words.
Re-ika: Izuku and Katsuki are childhood friends. I see this ship as the classic fan-favourite trope: rival and/to lovers. Katsuki absolutely despised Izuku and he competes with him too. His attention was always on Izuku since childhood, trying to bring him down.
Re-ika: He used to view Izuku as a small pebble on his road to become number one.
Re-ika: Everything that comes out of Izuku's mouth seems like a challenge to Bakugou and he can't even acknowledge that Izuku admired/s Katsuki.
Re-ika: Izuku tends to copy Katsuki too and also wondered at times, 'what would Katsuki do?'
Re-ika: I think that's something I haven't really seen in rival's in anime before. So, in that perspective of Bakudeku fans, along with the typical rivals-lovers trope, I can see sort-of where they're coming from - sort-of.
Re-ika: And a lot of Boku No Hero focuses on them as rivals too, so they have plenty of interactions.
Re-ika: But - but - making my mind narrow once again, Bakugou hated Izuku. He bullied Izuku. He done awful things to Izuku. And, yes, I'm bringing this up again!
Re-ika: And people will argue, 'he's changed. Re-ika, his changed.' And, yes, I agree; he did. Also, yes, his relationship with Izuku also changed, and yes, the past doesn't necessarily mean they'd be in an abusive relationship.
Re-ika: But did it change Bakugou's overall personality without counting the negative traits?
Re-ika: No, it did not.
Re-ika: To put it shortly - and not start a war I'm pretty sure I've already started - the way Bakugou treats Izuku even as his more better self, doesn't strike me as potential romance. I only see a growing - better - rivalry between them not an unhealthy rivalry they had before Bakugou's character development.
Re-ika: I wanted to say I could imagine a bromance, but my brain can't do that. I imagine this scene with Goblin and the Grim Reaper, and tried to put that image onto Izuku and Katsuki but I can't.
Re-ika: The only contact I can see with them is Katsuki elbowing him or something. Or a scene where he yells at Izuku for losing a fight and breaking his bones.
Re-ika: I can't imagine it Bakudeku fans, I can't. How do you do it?
Ochako
Re-ika: Diving in, I can pinpoint two scenes that makes it easy for me to understand where this ship comes from.
One: their fight scene in the sports festival.
Two: in the manga, I read a scene where Bakugou turns around to shout at Izuku but finds Uraraka there. She tells him that Izuku went to the bathroom and also that she wants them to get along.
Re-ika: I personally loved this small moment between them. They end up picking a fight with each other and Uraraka responds with a fighting pose. I really laughed and loved that she just was ready to throw hands.
Re-ika: And the fight - their fight - in the sports festival. I absolutely loved that - especially in terms of showing Uraraka's effort. Her plan might not have worked, but it was a brilliant idea.
Re-ika: And also in terms of showing more of Bakugou's personality and way of thinking.
Re-ika: "What part of her was weak/frail." This line - I don't know if it's the exact words - sparked my Bakugou loving side. He treated her as an equal in that fight and took her seriously - didn't look down on her. Which I can see again, how people can ship it.
Re-ika: And I think part of me sees a lot of points in this ships, because of a Wattpad friend who is a multishipper. I got influenced by them, which helps me stay open-minded enough.
Re-ika: But looking into the flaws of this ship, just because I have to for each, they don't interact much. I feel as if Bakugou would see her as a friend of Deku's mostly or even Deku's lover...? A good fighter and potentially respects her as a pro-hero, but outside of that, I don't know. Maybe neutral as a person...?
Re-ika:
I don't know how to convey what I am trying to say.
Re-ika: Overall, I would love to see more quarrels between the two. I wanted to say a lot more, but there are other ships to ramble about next.
Re-ika: Adding on to the conclusion, the sports festival arc did wonders in showing off Bakugou's character and made me understood his character better.
