Happy anniversary

"Yeh sab kya tha? Iss tarah door hoke anniversary manate hain? Tumhe anadaza bhi hai mujhe subah se kitni takleef hui... aisa lag raha tha main saans bhi nahi le paa raha hun." Sameer said breathlessly after a kiss that had to be ended only when they almost fainted.

"Saans toh abhi bhi nahi le paa rahe." Naina chuckled, also panting for breath.

He wrapped her in a bone crushing hug, "Aise saans ukhad jaane ko hi toh taras raha tha. Aur ek tum ho... ghar mein tumhare bina aisa lag raha tha jaise meri saari duniya veeran ho gayi. Yeh jaante hue bhi ki main tumse kitna pyar karta hun tum ek baar saamne tak nahi aayi."

Settled in the warm cocoon of his arms, she whispered against his neck, "Saalon purana ek hisaab baaki tha... woh poora kar rahi thi."

Perplexed, Sameer lifted his head to look at her, "Hisaab? Kaunsa?"

"Tumne meri nazron ke saamne rehte hue kabhi nazar nahi milai mujhse... maine do saal intezar kiya... tumhe toh sirf kuch ghanto ka intezar karna pada." She gazed into his eyes, speaking in a husky voice.

His eyes filled up with guilt again.

She cupped his face, and pecked his lips, "Maine yeh sab isliye kiya jisse tumhari aankhon mein dubara yeh pachtava na aaye. Ab hamara hisaab barabar ho gaya... tumne mujhe sataya, maine tumhe. Fir kabhi uss waqt ke liye dukhi mat hona."

He stared at her, stunned. Then his eyes softened. Leaning ahead, he took her for another kiss... invigorated by her effort to rid him of his guilt.

"Chodo ab mujhe change karne do. Pehle jaisi nahi hun. Bohot tight hai yeh uniform... badi mushkil se pehni hai." She remarked after a while.

"Nahi." He said quickly, pulling her closer, "Tumhare bina subah toh hui par meri zindagi tham gayi thi. Aisa lag raha tha koi chahat, koi ahsaas hi nahi rahe mujhmein... bejaan ho gaya tha. Lekin tumhari shayari ne dil ko fir se dhadkan di. Naina, har kagaz mein jaise tumhara dil dhadak raha tha... sivay uss alu paranthe wale ke."

She frowned at his smirk, "Usmein tumhare pet ke choohe kud rahe the. Mujhe pata tha khaoge nahi lekin bhook bhi bardasht nahi hogi, isliye likha tha."

"Bohot pyara tha, jaan. Main mazak kar raha tha." He cupped her face, holding her tighter when she tried to get away.

"Ruko na, Naina. Iss uniform mein kitni achhi lag rahi ho. Dekhne do, abhi maine theek se dekha kahan hai tumhe. " He insisted.

"Chup chup ke hi sahi, do saal dekha toh tha tumne school mein." She teased.

The glint in his eyes made her heart lose a beat, "Tab aise nahi dekh sakta tha... chahte hue bhi."

Her cheeks coloured with a deep hue when he stepped back and lazily let his gaze hover on her, lingering unabashed wherever he wanted.

"Hato. School mein the tum." She turned away from his intent eyes.

"Ab nahi hun." He held her wrist, making her swirl and fall in his arms again, "Ab meri biwi ho tum. Jaise chahu dekh sakta hun... jo chahu kar sakta hun. Mere paas raho, jaan, subah se tumhe dekhne ke intezar mein dil sookh gaya hai... usse wapas theek karne ke liye bohot mehnat karni padegi."

He peppered her face with desperate kisses, while his hands roamed over her form, searching for the feel of her skin.

He lifted his face from her neck shortly, exasperated, "Yeh kya hai, Naina? Ismein toh koi button ya zip hain hi nahi. Isse kaise nikalte hain?"

"Buddhu, isme hook hote hain. Lekin woh main tumhe nahi batane wali. Jaane do, mujhe change karna hai." She chuckled.

"Main bhi chalta hun. Kar lo change. Mujhse kya sharmana." He started to walk towards the room, keeping her in firm hold.

"Jee nahi. Tum jao aur khana tiffin se nikalo. Main abhi aati hun." She halted near the door.

"Naina, maine kaha na..." Her words were left incomplete when she put her fingers on his mouth.

"Please." Her voice was a mere whisper.

He saw something new in her eyes... a promise, or a determination... he wasn't sure, but he stepped back. Naina closed the door.

He was coming out of the kitchen with a jug of water when his eyes fell on her, entering the dining room. His jaw hit the ground.

The flimsy green saree darkened his eyes instantly. Naina halted, seeing him standing open mouthed. While she stood motionless, his eyes raced from her head to toe, and slowly drifted up. The saree hugged her so well that he was jealous. Transparent pallu flaunted her gleaming waist, making his throat go dry. As his eyes moved up, her accelerated breathing was evident to him. He dragged his eyes up, to find her hair tied in a pony. Without having to see it, he could clearly visualise how she looked from behind.

As if in a trance, he moved ahead, taking slow steps. She waited.

A loud gasp escaped her when he poured the water down her neck. His eyes turned midnight dark, when the saree stuck to her even more, turning see through to highlight her curves. Her gaze, however, didn't falter.

"Happy anniversary, darling. Iss mahine mein yeh bhi hua tha." Her voice was heavy with the feelings he was evoking in her.

Putting the jug aside, he placed his hands around her waist, "Aise tumhari kamar ko apne haathon se mehsoos karna chahta tha."

She swallowed.

His hands moved to her back, exploring the skin left bare by the deep neck, "Aise choona chahta tha unn boondon ko jo mujhse zyada khushkismat thi."

She shivered.

He lowered his head and pressed his lips to hers, trembling with the thought that had he done so that day what would have been her reaction.

"Yeh uss waqt toh nahi socha tha lekin ab ruk nahi paaya." He mumbled against her throat, his lips not ready to leave even after the kiss.

"Sam... Sameer. Bas. Aur nahi." She stuttered, trying to stop him before she lost her control completely with his hands tracing the curves and dips of her frame.

"Kyon?" He lifted his head, his brows creased at her refusal.

She placed her hands on his chest, to steady herself, "Woh... woh aaj ke liye kuch alag plan hai mera."

"Kya?" His eyes twinkled as he comprehended what her eyes held.

"Umm... uss waqt ka faasla aaj bhi rakhenge. Abhi din khatam nahi hua hai. Tumhare liye kuch aur surprise hain. Ek baar woh sab poore ho jayein toh yeh bandish nahi rakhungi." She looked hopefully at him.

His face fell, "Uss waqt hum majboor the, Naina. Ab nahi hain. Fir yeh faasle kyon?"

"Dekho, school mein choona toh door kabhi ek doosre ki aankhon mein nahi dekha, par aaj uss yaad ko jiya toh main tumhari baahon mein thi. Jis din iss saree mein dekha tha uss din tumne mujhe chua toh tha lekin jahan tumhari nazaren gayi wahan haath nahi jaa paaye... lekin aaj hum usse aage badhe. Ab jo hoga usmein bhi... hum thoda aage badh sakte hain lekin..." She hesitated, unable to speak out.

His eyes dropped down her face. The green saree had brought a storm in his life once, crumbling his resolve, breaking his self control, bringing down the walls that he had erected between him and Naina... how he had to hold back the words that choked his throat, that he loved her... how he had fought with himself to not give in to his desire of taking her in his arms, to feel her soft body melt against his burning one...  how he had to force his eyes to stay on her face and not wander down, to the dreamy shape that was enticing him insanely.

Today, she stood before him just like that day... draped, wet and alluring. The temptation was too strong for him to show restraint.

"Naina. Iss saree mein tumhe dekh ke maine ek baar kisi tarah khud ko roka tha... ab nahi ho payega." His voice came out from the back of his throat, guttural.

Her pallu was already on the floor before she could utter a single word. His lips hungrily sipped every drop that stuck to her skin. Dark green fabric of her blouse had become darker after getting wet, contrasting strikingly with her creamy, white skin. He pushed it down one shoulder and tasted the skin, giving her a mark of his love. Naina clutched his shirt, arching back as his lips continued their trail along her neckline. His fingers were already on the hooks at the back when the phone started to ring. Initial few rings were lost to them, the only sound in their ears being their own pounding blood.

"Sameer ph... phone." She shook him, when the persistent ringing registered.

"Bajne do." He did not lift his head.

"Sana ka bhi ho sakta hai." She pressed at his chest, pushing him.

"Uhh haan... haan." He swallowed, breathing hard.

"Hello." He tried to sound composed.

Sana chirped from the other side, asking him if he found her mom, and giggled heartily when he said he did.

"Mumma ne kaha tha aapke saath hide and seek khelna hai. Mazaa aaya na aapko. Lekin aap haar gaye. Mumma ko nahi dhoond paaye. Unhone aapko out kar diya." She jumped on the other side.

Sameer looked back at Naina, still standing in disheveled clothes, the red mark prominent on her shoulder where the hemline was lowered, her pallu trailing behind her... and his heart stopped beating.

"Mumma ne sachmuch mujhe out kar diya." He breathed into the phone.

Naina came to her senses at his words. She looked down at herself, and coloured deeply. Picking up the pallu, she grabbed the opportunity and ran back to the room. Sameer watched helplessly while his daughter enthusiastically narrated how many times Naina met her in the morning.

"Tum mumma papa ko miss kar rahi ho?" He asked, after her long story ended.

"Kar toh rahi hun par mujhe yahin rehna hai. Pata hai, nani ne mere liye halwa banaya hai, aur nanu toh bohot saari chocolates laaye hain. Main kal aaungi aapke paas. Okay?" She was happy and cheerful.

Sameer spoke to her for a few minutes before she put the phone down.

He darted to their room. The door was locked from inside.

"Naina. Darwaza kyon band hai... kholo na. Ghar pe sirf hum dono hain toh koi darwaza band nahi hoga." He knocked impatiently.

"Sameer, tum iss kamre mein nahi aa sakte. Aur jo maine kaha tha uske hisaab se bohot zyada mil chuka tumhe iss doosri anniversary ka." She hollered from inside.

He was dejected, "Tum saree change kar rahi ho?"

"Aage bhi toh badhna hai, Sameer. Kya tum nahi chahte?" Her voice held a promise that reminded him of the look in her eyes.

His heart bloomed again. She had made such elaborate arrangements. She had managed to involve everyone without his knowledge... even Sana. How did he not come to know that she was planning something... he was always with her. Still, she was spinning one surprise after the other since morning.

The door opened, breaking his reverie. His eyes rounded as he recognised the pink dress.

"Yeh... yeh toh tum college mein pehenti thi na?" His eyes travelled over her to appreciate how she still looked the same.

Her hair were open, like she used to keep for him in college.

"Naina, yeh kaunsi anniversary hai?" He raked his mind.

"Happy anniversary, darling." She held his hands, giving a beatific smile.

His eyes shone with mischief, "Yeh teesri baar darling kaha hai tumne... ab zara darling ko mauka bhi de do."

She ignored his remark, twirling around once to show him her dress, "Kuch yaad aaya?"

He stared at her, puzzled. She had worn it often in college but it did not bring any specific memory.

He stumbled back a few steps as she crashed into him, wrapping her arms tightly around him.

"Naina, yeh toh pehle bhi kiya tha." He blurted, perplexed.

She looked up at him, chuckling, "Buddhu, jab second year ke pehle din hum uss ped ke neeche mile the toh aise hi mile the. Haan pehle kiya tha lekin tab tak sirf aise waqt mein jab ya toh tum dukhi the ya main. Humne ek doosre ko sambhalne ke liye gale lagaya tha. Yeh pehli baar tha jab hum apni khushi se, pyar ke liye aise mile the. Aur pata hai kya hua tha?"

He shook his head instantly, without trying to think. Whatever it was, he was ready to relive it with her. She lifted his right hand, turned it and placed a kiss on his palm.

"Yeh thi meri pehli kiss, tumhare liye." She reminded him how she had kissed his hand for scoring a rank in examination... and how he had forwarded his left hand, saying that he was used to writing with both hands.

Sameer pulled her in his arms, "Uff jaan, tab se main jitna maangta hun tum uska aadha hi deti ho. Bohot kanjoos ho."

She rested her head on his chest, "Achha? Poori hug di aur poora ek kiss diya... woh toh maanga bhi nahi tha tumne."

He could now recall each and every moment of the day she was talking about. How he had marvelled at the way she had fitted in his arms... so perfectly, as if she was made for him.

She was.

He inhaled the fragrance of her shampoo, mixed with her own warm scent. The intoxicating effect hit his already heated blood.

"Woh kiss jo uss din reh gaya tha, aaj nahi chootna chahiye." His hoarse voice made her look up... and he captured her lips, plundering her soft mouth, filling himself with her taste.

He did not keep his hand away from her feel even while they were having lunch, keeping their chairs joined.

"Khana toh kha lo." She twisted when he drew patterns on her back.

"Khane se zyada kuch aur chahiye mujhe." He placed a kiss on her cheek.

She forced a bite of food in his mouth before he could speak again. After lunch, she placed the dishes in the kitchen and turned. He was right behind her. Placing his hands besides her on the counter, he locked her within them.

"I Love You, Naina." He stared at her adoringly.

"I Love You too, Sameer." She stated softly, her eyes shining with his reflection.

His fingers slowly traced every feature on her face, admiring the flawless beauty that had continued to grow with time.

"Tum bohot sundar ho." He said in a deep voice, trailing his lips on the same route that his fingers had taken.

She could feel the intensity even though the kisses were feather light. A mere touch of his hot breath on her skin was enough to drive her crazy.

"Sameer, abhi nahi." She whispered in a weak voice.

He buried his face in the crook of her neck, feeling her pulse throb under his lips. Slowly raising his head, he gazed into her eyes. They simmered with the flecks of passion that was raging in him. His own dark pools communicated the desire that had turned his blood to heated lava.

"Kab, Naina?" His voice was hardly audible.

She was tempted to give in. The tightening of her nerves was making it difficult to continue with the plan.

"Theek hai. Aaj ke din tum jo kahogi main maan lunga. Tumhara plan kharab nahi hona chahiye." He gently placed a kiss on her forehead before stepping back.

Naina took a deep breath, fighting for control over her frayed nerves. She had managed till now... she should not give up. He would love the grand finale that she had prepared for.

"Chalo thoda aaram kar lo. Tum yeh sab karne ke liye shayad bohot jaldi uthi thi subah." He wrapped one arm around her waist and started moving to their room.

"Yahan nahi. Guest room mein." She held the handle of the door when he tried to open it.

"Guest room... kyon?" He gave her a surprised look.

"Woh... woh yahan sab kapde bikhre hain. Sab phaila hua hai. Main baad mein saaf karungi." She fumbled.

He could clearly read the lie in her eyes. But did not ask further. Probably this was a part of her forthcoming sequence.

He did not make any attempt to go close to her, after making her lie down gently. She needed to sleep for some time. Also, he was sure after the long tormenting day, he wouldn't let her get much sleep through the night.

When Naina opened her eyes, the room was dark. It took her a while to get her bearing. Looking around, she realised she was alone in the guest room.

The bedroom... her eyes shot open, and she ran out.

"Sameer, Sameer kahan ho tum?" She halted near their bedroom. It was still latched from outside as she had left it.

"Aapke liye chai... aur daro mat, maine darwaza nahi khola." Sameer stood smiling, holding a tray with two steaming cups.

"Tumne kyon banayi? Mujhe utha dete." She frowned.

"Tum soti hui itni pyari lag rahi thi ki mann nahi hua. Aur chai kya, tum kaho toh main tumhare liye khana bhi bana dun." He grinned.

"Woh toh tum hi banaoge." She returned the wide smile.

"Maggi?" He raised one brow.

She nodded. He dipped his head to the side.

After tea, she said she wanted to freshen up and went to their room. Sameer waited for the next surprise.

He was not disappointed.

Her pink lucknowi kurta, with white patiala brought back the memories that stirred something in him the moment he saw her.

"Happy anniversary, darling." He beamed before she could say so.

She placed her hands on his shoulders, lifted her heels, and brushed his lips lightly, "Happy anniversary, darling."

His arms went around her, "Tum aise hi roz mujhe darling kaha karo na... dil uchal ke bahar aa jaata hai jab tum darling ya jaan bulati ho."

"Tumhe jitna milta hai hamesha usse zyada chahiye... thoda aur thoda aur karte rehte ho." She gave an impish grin.

"Toh milega na... thoda aur. Kyonki yeh hamari pehli kiss ki anniversary wala suit hai. Yeh mujhe achhe se yaad hai." He pulled her with a jerk.

"Abhi nahi. Pehle mahaul toh banane do." She stalled his leaning face.

He watched her as she went near the couch and pulled out a red dupatta from behind the cushion. When the veil descended on them, his lips found hers, reliving yet another beautiful moment that happened in this month few years ago.

"Naina, iske agle saal tak toh hamari shaadi ho chuki thi. Fir ab kya baaki hai?" He asked after a round of repeated kisses, because one was too less for him.

Her eyes glittered as she put the dupatta away.

"Bas ab akhiri baar change karna hai, Sameer." Her voice left him shivering with anticipation.

When she stepped out of the door, he had to blink a few times... to believe what he was seeing. She looked magnificent in a white nighty... like an angel, but the red, inviting lips were those of a seductress. And he was enchanted... falling under her spell all over again.

"Chalein?" She offered a hand when he remained glued to his seat, unable to move.

Holding her hand, he walked with her to the room. When she opened the door, his eyes popped out. The room was decorated with white flowers all over, just like their first night. A canopy over the bed and tall red blooms in vases all around completed the look.

"Happy anniversary, darling. Yeh anniversary har uss khoobsurat raat ki anniversary hai jo tumne mujhe di hai... har uss khusbu ki anniversary hai jo tumne meri zindagi mein bhar di hai... har uss saath ki anniversary hai jo mere jeene ke liye zaroori ban gaya hai... har uss ahsaas ki anniversary hai jo tumne mujhmein jagaya hai. Aur yeh anniversary hum har raat manayenge."

He stood mesmerised, gazing at the fairy who had made his life magical.
