Sameer bent down to touch Phulla bua's feet when they were leaving.
"Mere nanu hamesha aisi hi baatein karte the jaisi aap karte ho... aapke paas aata hun toh lagta hai nanu se fir se mil raha hun... thank you, bua dadi." He smiled with misty eyes.
Phulla bua stepped ahead and hugged him, "Tera jab jee chahe mujhse milne aa jaana... tere nanu ki kami toh poori nahi kar sakti par main bhi tujhse apne dil ki baat keh hi deti hun... I love you."
Naina smirked as Sameer bit his lower lip, blushing.
They left for their friends' house after Phulla bua assured them that she would soon meet them in Ahmedabad.
"Kitni der laga di... main subah se intezar kar rahi thi." Sonali chirped the moment she opened the door.
"Subah hi hai abhi... sone bhi nahi diya tumne yaar." Rahul cribbed, yawning.
"Isko dekho, Sameer, zara apne dost ki aankhen khulwao... isko batao barah baj rahe hain... sabka good afternoon ho raha hai aur iski good morning bhi nahi hui abhi." Sonali made a face as they all settled in the living room.
Rahul was sprawled on the sofa, still in his tracks, drowsy with sleep.
"Kya Rahul, itni der tak kaun sota hai... uth kyon nahi raha?" Sameer nudged him.
"Yaar Sameer, itne mahino ke baad sar se yeh bojh utara hai exams ka... ek din bhi sona allowed nahi hai kya? Main toh do teen din tak lagataar so sakta hun." Rahul streched his arms over his head.
"Tum na, soye hi raho... Sameer, tum sambhalo isse... main aur Naina bahar jaa rahe hain." Sonali gave an exasperated look to Rahul before turning to Sameer.
Sameer was instantly alert, "Bahar? Bahar kahan jaa rahe ho? Akele kyon? Hum bhi chalenge."
"Main kahin nahi jaunga... bas keh diya... agar tumko jaana hai, Sonali, toh Naina ke saath chali jao." Rahul covered his face with a cushion.
"Pagal hai kya... akele kyon jayenge yeh log? Hum chalenge Sonali... Rahul, uth jaa na... wapas aake so lena." Sameer could not think of being away from Naina.
"Dekh Sameer, main toh uthne wala hun nahi... tujhe dikkat hai toh tu chala ja." Rahul declared.
"Theek hai, main chala jaata hun inke saath." Sameer accepted.
Naina glared at him, "Sameer, agar Rahul ghar pe hai toh tum bhi ruk jao na... waise bhi humein kuch khaas kaam nahi hai... woh Preeti ne kuch samaan mangwaya hai bas wohi leke jaldi hi aa jayenge."
"Lekin main... akele kaise... tum bhi..." Sameer was not happy the way things were shaping up.
"Arre bhai, yeh log kaunsa ek mahine ke liye jaa rahe hain... aa jayenge ek do ghante mein." Rahul tried to calm Sameer.
"Achha Rahul suno, maine tum dono ka khana banwa diya hai... hum log aaj chaat khayenge... tumhe jab khana ho John ko bolna woh laga dega." Sonali instructed her husband.
He nodded sleepily.
"Rahul tujhe sona hi hai na, toh bhai tu soja... main chala jaata hun inn dono ke saath... akele kyon bhejna inko." Sameer tried to find some excuse to go with them.
"Akele bhejna se kya matlab hai tumhara? Pehli baat, tum nahi bhej rahe hum apni marzi se jaa rahe hain... aur doosri baat akele kyon nahi jaa sakte? Kya tum body guard ho hamare?" Naina was clearly miffed.
He was now in a fix, "Mera woh matlab nahi tha Naina, main bas isliye keh raha tha ki tum mere bina kaise jaogi... "
Her expression told him he had again put his foot in the mouth.
"Sonali, main zara yeh samaan andar rakh ke aati hun." Still glowering at Sameer, she picked up her suitcase and went to the room.
Sameer gulped, picked up his own and went in after her.
Sonali nudged Rahul when they were gone. He opened his eyes... and sat up.
"Achhi acting ki na maine?" He grinned at his wife.
She pinched his cheeks, "Haan, bohot achhi... mujhe hi neend aane lagi thi tumhe dekh ke."
"Achha yaar ab toh bata do aisa kya kaam hai jo mujjse yeh sab karwa ke Sameer ko ghar rukwa rahi ho." He prodded.
Sonali had asked him to do all the drama of being sleepy and lethargic and refuse to accompany the girls to the market... making Sameer stay at home as well. He had asked numerous times but she didn't say anything about the purpose of their going out. Now, after he had played his role so well to give them the chance they wanted, she was happy.
"Naina ko Sameer ke liye kuch surprise gift lena hai... usse bata diya ki uske liye hi lene jaa rahe hain toh surprise kahan rahega." She rewarded him with the information he was dying to get.
"Oh! Isika faayda hone wala hai aur yeh gadha naraaz karke baith gaya apni biwi ko... mana le toh theek hai... warna surprise ki jagah Naina koi shock na de de." He rolled his eyes.
Sonali gave a light smack on his arm... and they laughed, waiting for the other couple to come out of the room.
Naina stomped into the room, placing the suitcase noisily on one side and started to move towards the washroom.
Sameer dropped his suitcase near the door and took long strides to reach her. She was almost near the door when he pulled her hand to make her turn.
"Naina, please ek minute suno toh... main tumhe gussa nahi karna chahta tha... main sirf itna keh raha tha ki mujhe bhi saath jaana hai." He looked at her earnestly.
"Sameer, mujhe sach mein bohot bura laga... tum bhi aisa sochte ho ki main akele bahar na jaun?" She asked with a sombre expression.
He cupped her face, "Haan, main nahi chahta ki tum akele kahin jao."
Her eyes clouded.
His voice turned soft, "Kyonki main tumse ek minute ke liye bhi alag nahi rehna chahta, Naina... main khud bhi akele bahar jaana nahi chahunga agar bohot zaroori na ho... bas mujhe itna chahiye ki tum hamesha mere paas raho... tumhe bandhna nahi hai... tumse bandh ke rehna hai... Naina, tumse door ab rehna hi hoga wapas jaake... kam se kam tab tak saare pal jee lene do apne saath."
The gloomy features relaxed with his words.
"Sameer, bandh ke nahi humein judd ke rehna hai... aur hum judd chuke hain ek doosre ke saath... itni si der ke liye tum itne udaas ho jaoge toh hamare aane wale dinon mein bohot mushkilen aayengi... tab kya karoge... aur agar tum itne dukhi rahoge toh kya main woh sab kar paungi jo mere parivaar ko manane ke liye karna padega? Nahi Sameer, humein himmat se kaam lena hai... mujhe bhi tumhare saath hi achha lagta hai par kaam toh karne hi padenge na? Kal tak hostel mein bhi hum alag hote hi the... aaj bhi bas kuch der ke liye jaana hai." She managed to ease his restlessness again.
He took a deep breath... and smiled, "Theek hai... par jaane se pehle kuch deke jao na."
Her eyes glittered... raising herself on the heels, she kissed his foreheads.
He furrowed his brows.
She went up again and kissed his cheek.
He pouted.
She turned his face and kissed the other cheek.
He scrunched his nose.
She pulled his head down and kissed the tip of his nose.
He grumbled, she kissed his chin.
He puckered his mouth, expecting it to be the next when she rested her lips in the hollow at the base of his neck.
"Baaki baad mein." She whispered and ran out to the living room, leaving him standing with a frown.
"Yaar Sameer, itna kya dukhi ho raha hai... aa jayenge thodi der mein." Rahul saw his sullen face when they were seated together after the girls were gone.
"Nahi woh baat nahi hai... Rahul, tujhe pata hai na ab kya mod aane wala hai hamari zindagi mein... yaar main toh bas Naina ke papa ka soch ke ghabra jaata tha par yahan toh uske tauji taiji bhi aayenge beech mein deewar banke... chachaji aur chahchiji itne achhe aur samajhdaar hain toh baaki log kyon unke jaise nahi hai?" He wondered aloud.
Rahul patted his shoulder, understanding his fears.
"Mujhe Naina ke liye bohot darr lagta hai... jaisa usne bataya hai pehle, woh log haath uthane se pehle sochte tak nahi... Rahul, sach bata raha hun... meri Naina ko kisi ne chua bhi toh main ek second bhi usse rehne nahi dunga uss ghar mein." He clenched his fists.
"Sameer, shaant ho jaa bhai... woh log Naina ki family hain... agar tum dono chahte ho ki sabki haan ke saath, sabke ashirwaad ke saath ek rasmon riwaaz wali shaadi ho toh usse pehle thoda drama toh jhelna hi padega... dekha tha na meri shaadi mein mere tauji kaise bhadak rahe the... Naina ki problem yeh hai ki woh tauji taiji saath wale ghar mein hi rehte hain aur har baat mein apni chalaate hain... lekin aadhe ghar wale tumhare saath hain toh Naina akeli nahi padegi... aur fir tumhari bua dadi bhi toh hongi... sab theek ho jayega... tu darr mat." Rahul consoled him.
Sameer took a deep breath, hoping Rahul was right.
Sonali took Naina to the big shop which had a huge collection of all types of nightwear.
Naina was amazed to see the pieces on dummies, wondering how someone could wear such things to bed... they looked too delicate and expensive.
Knowing Naina's hesitation, Sonali took her to the counter which had nighty and gown sets.
"Colour toh pink hi chahiye hoga tujhe." She asked in a hushed voice, knowing Sameer's fascination about pink.
Naina remembered the pink nighty he had already bought for her, "Nahi, koi aur colour."
Sonali gave her a shocked look, then shrugged, asking the salesgirl to show all colours.
Initially, Naina was reluctant to check the pieces but seeing Sonali do it with ease, she came out of her reticence and started to observe the patterns.
All nighty sets were of beautiful satin fabric, similar to what Sameer had bought. The delicate designs of lace made them look more alluring. Some nighties had only thin strings to hold them... no sleeves... Naina wondered how someone could wear such a thing. She selected two sets for herself... one in light frosty blue and one in red.
Sonali was not satisfied... she wanted Naina to take some more... something that was a little bold.
"Tera dimag kharab hai, Sonali... main kabhi aisa kuch nahi pehen sakti... woh bhi Sameer ke saamne." Naina was appalled at the thought.
"Dimaag tera khraab ho gaya hai... Sameer ke nahi toh kya apni taiji ke saamne pehnegi?" Sonali chided her.
Naina widened her eyes... wondering how taiji would react if she stepped out of her room in something like these pieces... she would have a heart attack then and there, for sure.
She burst out laughing, attracting states from other customers around. Sonali tugged at her arm, asking her to take it easy.
"Naina, kya kar rahi hai... sab dekh rahe hain... Sameer ke reaction ke baare mein bahar jaake soch lena." She whispered, leaning towards her friend.
"Sameer nahi main toh taiji ke reaction ke baare mein soch rahi thi." Naina covered her mouth to control her giggles.
Sonali jerked up her head to look at the tearing eyes... cracking up herself.
"Tu shayad poore Mumbai mein akeli hogi jo aisi cheezein khareedte hue apni unn hitler taiji ko pasand aayega ya nahi yeh soch rahi hai." She clutched her stomach, joining her friend.
When Naina was making the payment at the counter, Sonali got another set packed for her.
As they stepped out, she handed it to Naina, "Yeh meri taraf se gift...aur kuch bolna mat."
With a smile, naina added the packet to her shopping bag.
As they boarded an auto to go back later, Naina gave the shopping bag to Sonali," Isse tu apne paas rakhle...jab Sameer nahi hoga kamre mein tab main leke apne suitcase mein rakh lungi... warna woh sau sawal puchega."
Sonali took the bag,"Main rakh toh lungi par yeh bata sameer ko keh nahi sakti ki yeh kuch private hai... matlab zaroori hai batana usse?" She gave a crooked smile.
"Sameer kuch nahi sunta...usse sb janna hota hai... usse chupana bohot mushkil hai." Naina sighed.
"Hayee, Kitna pyara hai tera Sameer...naina tere liye bohot khush hun main... Sameer jaisa pyaar karne wala iss duniya mein koi nahi ho sakta." Sonali was genuinely happy for her friend.
"Hann, woh toh hai... Sameer jaisa koi ho hi nahi sakta... woh toh bas ek hi hai... Mera Sameer."
There will be no evening update. Samaina will meet you all tomorrow morning.
SORRY!!
