Thank You
Naina sat behind him, hands on his shoulders as they left for college.
Halfway through, Sameer stopped the bike outside a small restaurant.
"Yahan kyon ruke hain, Sameer? Abhi toh khana khaya hai... tumhe fir se bhook lag gayi kya?" Naina asked as she got off the bike.
He narrowed his eyes, "Kya main tumhe bhukkad lagta hun?"
"Aur kya", she shrugged, suppressing a smile.
He pulled her cheek, scrunching his nose, "Chalo."
As they reached the door, he held her hand, "Saath mein chalte hain."
They opened the door together... flower petals showered on them.
Before she could comprehend what was happening, Sameer presented a red rose to her.
Naina was astonished, "Yeh... yeh sab kya hai?"
Sameer smiled when she took the rose and pulled her as he moved. She looked around... there was nobody in the restaurant... but... she was captivated by the decoration.
The passage was lined with petals too, there were balloons everywhere, on the ceiling, walls, floor... there were beautiful pink roses on all tables. As Sameer took awestruck Naina to the end of the room, she saw a huge white screen on the wall. It had three words written with red rose petals :
THANK YOU NAINA
She just stared at it open mouthed.
Sameer shook her a little "Naina..."
"Huh... " She could not understand what this was all about.
"Sameer, aaj mera birthday toh nahi hai... na hi Rahul ki tarah tumhe propose karna hai... fir yeh sab kya hai... yeh thank you kisliye?" She finally managed to ask.
He handed her a gift.
Totally confused with everything, she accepted the box, asking him, "Dekhun?"
He nodded.
There was a beautiful pearl bracelet in it. Naina gasped at the delicate piece of jewelry.
"Waise toh tumhe kisi jewelry ki zaroorat nahi hai par fir bhi yeh ek chota sa gift tumhare liye... shayad isko tumhari zaroorat hai." He said in a low voice as he clasped the bracelet on her wrist.
Before Naina could open her mouth to say something, he presented one more box, much bigger.
She threw her hands in air, "Ek aur gift... Sameer... baat kya hai... please batao?"
He held her hands and kept the box in them, indicating with his eyes to open it.
Naina opened the box to find a beautiful saree... in green colour with a delicate silver border.
"Sameer yeh... yeh toh... " she was dumbfounded.
She looked at the saree, then at him... her mind had completely stopped working.
"Sameer ab toh bata do... main pagal ho rahi hun." The curiosity was killing her.
He held her hand and guided her out of the small door leading to a garden behind the restaurant. There were a few white tables with some chairs around them... just like the restaurant, there was no one.
The table in the center had another box on it.
"Nahi... jab tak tum bataoge nahi main yeh gift nahi dekhungi." She put her foot down, unable to bear the suspense.
He held her face in his palms, speaking in a low voice, "Please... mere liye... aakhri gift hai."
She had no chance against his husky voice.
Walking upto the table, she opened the box to reveal a pink long dress.
She slapped her palm on her mouth, unable to speak.
He stood with crossed arms, watching her, enjoying her confusion.
She turned to look at him.
He knew it could not be taken any further... the time for revealing the truth had come.
He made her sit on the chair, kneeling down in front of her, holding her hands, "Naina, aaj poore chaar saal ho gaye uss din ko jab tum mujhse school mein takrate takrate reh gayi thi."
She had a look of disbelief on her face... Sameer, who was not affected at all by that first meeting was celebrating its anniversary...
He could read her thoughts.
"Tum yehi soch rahi ho na ki jab mujhe uss din koi fark hi nahi pada toh aaj usse yaad kyon kar raha hun?"
She slightly nodded, in no condition to speak.
"Uss din kuch hua toh nahi par tumhari aankhon mein kuch ajeeb sa dekha... ussi ehsaas ko samajhne ke liye chup chup ke tumhe dekhna shuru kiya... aur pata nahi kab tumse pyar ho gaya." He looked at her hands, rubbing his thumb on the soft skin.
"Woh jo pehla gulab tha na woh uss din ki yaad mein tha," he explained the first gift, "uss khushboo ke liye jo tum meri zindagi mein leke aayi."
She could only stare.
"Doosra gift tha agle saal ussi din ki yaad mein... jab mujhe ehsaas ho chuka tha ki main tumse pyaar karta hun... bas keh nahi paaya tha... itne din ki chuttiyon ke baad jab tumhe XII class mein dekha tab pata chala ki tumne kaise mujhe apne aap se baandh liya hai." He fingered the bracelet.
"Yeh gift uss bandhan ki yaad mein."
Naina looked at the delicate piece around her wrist.
He moved closer, resting one hand on her knee, "Agle gift ka kaaran batane ki zaroorat hai kya?"
His darkening eyes brought the memory of a particular rainy day alive in her mind... making her turn a deep shade of red.
"Teesri baar, issi mahine mein tumne mujhe fir se pagal bana diya tha... aisi saree mein aake... sach Naina... aag laga di thi tumne", his voice had gone hoarse.
If she was red earlier, she was beetroot now.
"Kab pehen ke dikhaogi yeh saree?" He stroked her hand again, drawing small circles, making her shiver.
He waited for her answer... Naina could not even lift her eyes to look at him.
"Bolo... " He prompted.
She swallowed, "Iske liye intezaar karna padega."
He tilted his head to look into her eyes, "Aaj tumne kuch der intezaar kiya toh yaad hai na kya haalat hui thi? Socho main kaise intezaar karta hun..."
She looked back at him with clear eyes, "Maine bhi toh kiya tha, Sameer... do saal se bhi lamba intezaar... jo uss samay lagta tha kabhi khatam nahi ho sakta... jaante hue bhi ki mujhe saari zindagi intezaar karna hoga, maine kiya... tumhare liye... "
He knew she was right...
Raising himself a bit, he planted a kiss on her chin, "Thank you... aaj main un sab baaton ke liye thank you bolna chahta hun jo tumne tab mere liye kiya jab tum mera intezaar kar rahi thi... uss intezaar ke liye thank you... meri zindagi mein aane ke liye thank you..."
Her eyes turned misty as she leaned and kissed his forehead, "Tum mujhe thank you mat bolo... humare rishte mein iski koi zaroorat nahi hai... jo hum ek dusre ke liye karte hain woh koi thank you sunne ke liye nahi karte... bas apne dil ki awaaz sunte hain... isliye aage se kabhi aisa mat kehna..."
He stood up, lightly pulling her hand to make her stand with him.
They stood facing each other.
"Aur aakhiri gift, yeh pink dress uss din ki yaad mein hain jab pichle saal hum wapas Mumbai aaye the... teen mahine ke baad jab hum uss ped ke neeche mile the aur tum aakar mere gale lag gayi thi... tab tumne ek pink dress pehni thi jisse dekhkar mere hosh udd gaye the... fir jab tumne seene se lagkar I Love You bola toh meri jaan mein jaan aayi... uss din mere dil ko kitna sukoon mila tha main bata nahi sakta." He completed the explanation regarding all his gifts.
Naina could just look at him, wondering how she was so lucky to have a person like him... who loved her so much.
She raised her hand to rest on his cheek, "Sameer tumhe pata bhi nahi tum kitne achhe ho."
Her touch, her voice, her closeness... his breathing was becoming faster. Wrapping his hands around her, he whispered softly, "Tum bata do."
Naina felt the change in his voice... her breath hitched as his eyes got darker.
"Hum... hum bahar hain... " She gulped, sensing his intention.
"Yahan koi nahi aayega... maine yeh poora restaurant shaam tak ke liye book karaya hai... " He cleared her doubt.
"Toh fir tumhe iss saal ki anniversary bhi abhi hi mana leni chahiye."
Before he could understand what she meant, her hands went behind his neck as she pulled his mouth over hers.
Sameer needed no time to adjust, his hand held her head in position as he took control of the kiss.
Naina was drowning in the feelings bursting inside her...
His taste filled her senses as his mouth devoured her... the shivering turned into warmth... then into burning.
She had no idea how she could feel both inflamed and calmed at the same time.
Sameer could not get enough... he pulled her closer and closer, her every soft inch melting his entire body.
He shifted back only when the need for oxygen overtook the carnal need.
He looked down at her disheveled hair, closed eyes, her lips curved with a faint hint of smile, red face, her heaving chest...
Giving in to the temptation, he took the inviting mouth again... she accepted him whole heartedly, moulding herself against him, fisting his hair as she put pressure on his head...
Few minutes later, they sat next to each other, breathing heavily, reeling with the effect of what they had shared. Though, it was not the first time, Naina felt a new tightening inside her... something coiled up in the deep pit of her stomach...
As Sameer wound one arm around her, pulling her closer, the heat emanating from her body singed him... matching his own intensity. He again felt that it was not the same innocent girl who had asked him to attend classes before marriage. The thought made him chuckle.
Naina looked up at him, suddenly conscious, "Hansi kis baat pe aa rahi hai tumhe?"
He tightened his arm around her, bending his head to rest on hers, "Ek masoom si ladki ki yaad aa gayi."
He got a punch in his stomach.
"Ahh... Naina, kya kar rahi ho? Laga mujhe", he winced, faking more pain than he felt.
"Tum mujhe apni baahon mein bithakar kisi aur ladki ko yaad karoge aur main sun lungi? Aaj toh dheere maara hai... agli baar aisa kiya na toh dekh lena..." She gave a ferocious look.
He could not believe what he heard, Naina actually thought he was talking about someone else and she was burning in jealousy...
"Meri jaan, main tumhari hi baat kar raha tha." He cupped her chin.
The colour intensified on her face as she looked away, embarrassed and shy at the same time.
He scooped her in his arms, touching her forehead, "Sach mein tumhari baat kar raha tha... tumhare alawa kisi ladki ko main jaanta tak nahi."
She believed him...
Her hand moved to his face, resting on his cheek, "Pata hai mujhe... bas tumne aisa kaha toh ekdum se laga ki kahin mujhse milne se pehle koi aur toh nahi thi... "
"Tumse pehle toh nafrat karta tha main ladkiyon se... lagta tha sab matlabi hoti hain... unki tarah... " His voice suddenly turned bitter.
Naina knew he was talking about his mother.
She didn't want him to be upset... softening her voice, she asked, "Aur ab kya lagta hai... kaisi hoti hain ladkiyaan?"
He was back with her in an instant, "Aur kisi ka toh pata nahi par meri wali toh atom bomb hai."
He got another smack on his shoulder.
