Dupatta

Sameer reached the ground to find Naina already waiting.

"Aaj tum itni jaldi kaise aa gayi?" He was surprised.

"Bas aise hi, " she looked up at him.

He settled next to her.

She had changed into a suit, he noticed. Sitting with her arms hugging the legs, she rested her chin on the knees.

"Ek baat puchun, Naina?" He asked.

"Bolo." She continued to look ahead.

"Aaj tumne kya silwane diya hai?" He tried to keep his voice casual.

She looked sharply at him, "Kuch kapde hain... tum kyon puch rahe ho?"

"Main... woh... bas aise hi puch raha tha... tum banwati nahi ho yahan se isliye laga itna kya zaroori hai jo abhi chahiye." He asked simply.

"Jab aayega tab bata dungi, " she was equally casual about it.

His heart flipped at her words.

"Aisa karna pehen ke hi dikha dena." He said, stealing a glance at her, trying to read her reaction.

Naina shrugged, "Theek hai, dikha dungi."

For a moment, Sameer wondered if he had actually seen the right paper. Naina had accepted his request to wear it so easily... she could not wear the deep neck blouse to college. But the paper had her name written on it. Was it possible that she had planned to wear it for him... only for him...

The numbers swam again in front of his eyes.

Breathing hard, he rested his back on the tree, scared to close his eyes... lest her rain drenched image torment him again.

She looked back at him, then shifted a little and placed her head in the crook of his neck, one hand on his chest.

He swallowed... holding his thundering feelings, he slowly put a hand around her shoulder.

"Aaj film dekhkar bohot mazaa aaya... hum fir se chalenge." She said chirpily, unaware of the storm brewing inside him.

"Hmm... theek hai." His voice was lost.

"Kya hua... tumhe maza nahi aaya kya... Salman ki wajah se?" She chuckled, "Agli baar kisi aur ki dekh lenge... par iss baar khud hi check kar lena... kahin fir se surprise mil jaye."

He smiled, "Kar lunga."

She sensed something was amiss.

She shifted her head to look at his face, "Kuch hua hai kya, Sameer? Tum ukhde hue se lag rahe ho."

He gave a bright smile to her, "Nahi toh... kya hoga? Bilkul theek hun."

"Mujhse chupaoge?" She placed a hand on his cheek.

He closed his eyes, her hand making his skin hot.

Naina felt his heart go drumming wildly against her...

She sat up straight...

He opened his eyes, feeling the hand move away from his face, along with the weight on his chest.

The dark eyes that stared into hers had gone darker... she shivered at the intensity in them.

"Naina," his voice was deep, "mujhe pata hai tum kya banwa rahi ho."

Her eyes did not falter.

"Maine dekha." His eyes searched for the surprise or anger in hers.

"Pata hai." Her voice was soft.

He sat up with a jerk, astounded.

"Tum... tumhe pata hai? K... kaise?" He stuttered.

"Jab tum chabi ka bolke gaye main tabhi samajh gayi... tailor ki dukaan  ke samne toh tumne ek baar bhi pocket mein haath nahi dala... wahan tum saara time gusse se apne haath mal rahe the", she said without any hint of annoyance.

"Tum... tum... gussa nahi ho?" He gulped.

She shook her head.

He was stunned again... she had not said a word about him sneaking in to check her measurements.

He ran a hand through his hair, "Naina... main... woh... main bas... pata nahi..."

She cupped his face, "Tum itne pareshan mat ho... mujhe bura nahi laga."

He held her hand on his cheek and brought it to his lips, kissing on her palm.

"Tumne kuch kaha kyon nahi?" He was still not over the shock that she had been knowing all along.

She smiled, not saying anything.

Her hand slid out of his as she stood up, her dupatta flying in the strong wind that had been blowing for the past few hours.

The soft material fell on his face as Naina remained standing close, her back to him. He inhaled deeply, filling himself up with her scent.

Getting up, he stood behind her... as his hands went around her crossed arms, she leaned back into him.

He grazed his lips on her neck, "Sorry Naina, par main khud ko rok nahi paya."

She took a deep breath and turned towards him.

"Sorry mat bolo... tum chahte ho isiliye banwa rahi hun."

His brows went up, "Achha... toh pehen ke bhi dikhana padega."

"Jab pehenne ka time aayega tab dikha dungi." She gave a crooked smile.

"Tab tak aise hi rakhogi apne paas... bechara blouse bhi sochega ki uska number kab aayega." He sighed.

She chuckled, "Aajkal kuch zyada nahi badmash ho rahe ho tum?"

He held her waist in his palms, his fingers touching each other at her back and his thumbs touching on her belly,  "Andaaza toh tha ki kamar mere hathon mein aa jayegi par fir bhi aaj likha hua dekh ke socha main bhi naap le lun."

Her eyes went wide as colour crept up on her cheeks.

Twisting her waist, she whispered, "Sameer chodo... kya kar rahe ho."

"Naap le raha hun... itne saare tailors ko deti ho mujhe nahi dogi." He kept his hands firm.

Her hands moved down to his wrists, feeling the butterflies in her stomach not only grow in size but multiply in number as well.

He pulled her closer.

"Sameer, tumhe pata toh hai... nahi pata hota toh mere liye pehle woh dress aur ab woh top kaise laate?" She managed to speak amidst the waves of shuddering she was feeling as he moved his thumb slowly on her belly.

He was alert, "Tumne woh top pehna?"

She nodded, "Pehen ke dekha tha... ekdum fit hai... size pata hai tabhi toh laye na."

He smiled sheepishly, "Maine dekha tha jab tumne mere saath shopping kari thi... tumne small size khareeda tha toh main bhi wohi le aaya."

"Kab se kaam pe lage ho?" She teased, breathing easy as his fingers were still.

"Jabse tumhe uss din baarish mein dekha." He could see her image in a transparent saree stuck like second skin as she stood drenched in front of him.

The memories of that day made her go crimson, "Tum uss din ko yaad karna nahi chodoge na?"

"Yaad toh tab karunga jab bhoolunga." His fingers were at work again.

She gasped, "Please aise mat karo."

"Kyon? " His voice was raspy now.

Her hands moved to his chest  clenching into fists as she closed her eyes.

Sameer slowly let his hold loosen.

Naina felt her breathing calm down a bit.

"Aage se tailor se kapde mat banwana... seedhe dukaan  se khareedo na." He gave the solution to his jealousy.

"Suit nahi banwaungi... par blouse toh dukaan  mein nahi milte... woh tailor hi banate hain." She dashed his hopes.

He could not say anything... blouses were a deadlier weapon any day.

"Waise ek tareeka hai jisse tailor ke paas jaana nahi padega." She said in a honey dipped voice.

He brightened instantly, "Kya?"

"Main saree hi nahi pehnungi... shadi ke baad bhi bas suit aur dress pehnungi." She kept her eyes on his face.

No sarees... it was too much. She had lit the fire in him with a saree in the first place and now she wanted to deny him the pleasure when he would have her all to himself.

"Nahi, nahi... saree pehenni toh zaroori hai... theek hai tum chali jaana tailor ke paas." He said quickly.

She laughed.

"Bas aise hi usse likh ke de dena sab kuch... main nahi dekh sakta koi tumhe haath lagaye." He elaborated.

Naina realised he could never stop being jealous, it always would be someone or something that he would see as competition. And she loved his possessiveness.

Lifting up her heels, she kissed his cheek.

His face broke into a wide grin, "Ab dene ka mood bana liya hai toh kuch aur bhi de do."

"Hato, " she turned, trying to move out of his arms.

Sameer lunged to catch her hand but he could get a hold only on her dupatta.

Naina moved away swiftly as the dupatta slid off her and remained in his hand.

Thinking it had fallen down, she looked behind on the ground.

Sameer stood smiling, holding it.

Her eyes widened.

"Sameer, dupatta kyon kheencha tumne mera?" She narrowed her eyes.

"Yeh khud mere paas aa gaya... main toh tumhe pakad raha tha." He wrapped it around his hand.

"Lao, wapas do." She extended her hand.

Sameer was pleased to see that she did not feel embarrassed or conscious at all in front of him.

"Yeh dupatta toh ab mere paas hi rahega." He held the dupatta clad hand against his heart.

Again, to his surprise, she smiled, "Rakh lo."

Sameer walked up to her, hypnotised by the aura she was radiating against the darkness that had enveloped them.

"Chalein, der ho rahi hai." She said softly, looking into his eyes.

He pulled her close, wrapping his arms tight around her.

Naina pressed her palms on his back, resting her head on his chest.
