02: Glorifying Abuse

OH BOY one fast way to quickly get me to drop a book is glorifying abuse/abusive relationships.

it's something that commonly shows up in the werewolf genre but outside of it as well, usually with those cheesy CEO novels or '''''''''''''''bad boy'''''''''''''''' books.

hey, a quick reminder, harassing someone into dating you or threatening/blackmailing someone into a relationship is abuse and straight up fucking disgusting.

something specific to werewolf genres is forcefully marking someone. that happens so often and it's like people just gloss over how inherently horrifying it is. i know that the whole idea of werewolf culture is fake and not suppose to be taken seriously but lets consider that in most books, marking is considered super important and usually kind of sexual so when the stupid ass alpha male takes a bite out of the protagonist without her consent it's actually sexual assault. so now the main love interest has committed sexual assault and i've stopped reading the novel bc usually the alpha male asshole faces no consequences for literally committing sexual assault.

my main problem with the glorification with abuse on this site is it exposes a lot of young impressionable people to awful abusive relationships that are portrayed as healthy and sustainable and good.

i mean come on guys, none of us are idiots here and we know there are like 10-12 year olds on this site reading these alpha books, reading this shit and bc the abuse is not condemned or shown in a negative light now believe that there's nothing wrong with it. and yes we can say that they'll grow up and know the difference but WHY in gods name are we representing abuse like this in the first place?

my own books, specifically the greed of wolves, the comments-while i love most of them-can grow kind of concerning. abuse has become so minimized that in my novel where the alpha literally kidnaps my main protag, i have people asking why she hates him.

GUYS kidnapping is wrong and falls under abuse (the exact definition of abuse being:  cruel and violent treatment of a person or animal) and the fact that i have to point that out, that somehow it has become so fucking normalized that people dont understand why it's wrong or just why my main protag might not be happy is actually scary. and i know that many of you may see that as an overreaction but it's really not, because when i have multiple comments not realizing that what occurred was wrong when it was straight up kidnapping, it opened up my eyes to this dangerous view many people harbor about what is and isn't abuse.

it genuinely seems that many people on wattpad have no problem with abuse if the person doing the abuse is some hot man who just 'can't help it' and that is so fucked up.

you are allowed to write what you want to write but as always i want to ask, why exactly are you writing it? what ideas are you perpetrating and to what end? do your main characters face consequences due to their abusive actions and if not, why? is it to prove something?

i mean at the end of the day, you can do what you want, just be aware about who might be reading it and while it isn't necessarily your fault if some kid reads ur book 'mr hot alpha man took me from my family, forcefully marked me, didn't allow me to leave and now suddenly im in love with him' just be conscious of what your perpetrating/portraying.
