It was automatically different once I landed. I was in awe, everything was amazing and different. I started to walk over to the luggage carousel.
When I got there, I found my luggage and I walked over to the taxi pick-up area. I hailed a taxi (my mom taught me how before I left) and I put my stuff in the trunk.
"34 Beacon Road please," I said to the cab driver as I hopped into the back seat of the cab.
"Alright. The trip is about 30 minutes, feel free to change the channel on the TV," The driver said. I pulled out a book out of my backpack that I packed. The book was, "The Maze Runner", one of my favorites because of the action and suspense. About 15 minutes later, I decided to look out my window and notice the differences from Nevada. The tall skyscrapers left me speechless. I started to think about my mom. I hoped she was doing alright. I'm not worth crying over, at least I don't think I am. I started having mixed emotions, like they were all yelling at me to feel a certain way. I felt happiness, joy, excitement! But I also felt sorrow, pain, loneliness. But I guess this is a fresh, new start for me and I can't mess this new life up.
"Here we are, 34 Beacon Road," the driver said to me.
"Thank you so much," I handed him $40 and jumped out of the car. I was once again speechless. Here I was, standing in front of a mansion, with huge columns and a grand entrance. I got my luggage out of the trunk and calmly went up to the front door. I was nervous, I haven't seen my Aunt Cassie for many years now, and it would be different now that I was older and she got divorced. She didn't have any children, so it would just be me and her. This was also the first time I've been to her house, she usually came over to Nevada to visit my mom and I.
I took a deep breath and I rang the doorbell. She quickly answered the door and said," Oh Nicole! Look at how much you've grown! And you're already a beautiful 17 year old. You grew up so fast. How are you?"
I was a bit overwhlemed by the many things she was saying to me. I took another deep breath and said," Everything is great!" I was lying, of course I was lying. How could everything be great when I had to leave my mom, and move to the complete opposite side of the country to live with someone I barely knew.
"Oh, that's so good to hear! Let me show you to your room so you can unpack. The moving truck is coming later this week." She led me inside and it was gorgeous. There was a grand entrance with a beautiful staircase. I was completely speechless.
"Right this way," she said joyfully. "I'll give you a tour of the house when you're finished." I followed Aunt Cassie upstairs and into one of the bedrooms. It was ginourmous and completely empty, except for a queen sized bed. I instantly felt spoiled, i had never had this luxury before.
"Here's your room! It's empty so you can decorate it however you'd like. Come downstairs when you're ready and I'll give you a tour."
"Thank you so much!" I said as I ran to give her a hug.
"Anything for you, I love you so much," she said as we pulled away from the hug. Aunt Cassie went downstairs and I looked at the room in astonishment. "Wow," I thought contently. "She really does love me." I loved how much she cared for me, even though I barely saw her. I unpacked a little and went downstairs, I didn't want to keep her waiting. She gave me a tour of her huge house and by then, it was already time for dinner. She made a delicious meal consisting of spaghetti, meatballs, and salad. It was simple but it was so good! After dinner, the moving truck arrived. We moved the boxes into my new bedroom.
"So," Aunt Cassie said. "What color would you like the walls?"
"Hmmmm. Maybe a pale blue. I was thinking about having the room themed like a peaceful beach."
"Oh! I love that idea! Tomorrow you have school, but this will definelty be our weekend project. Plus, we will have a lot of bonding time then."
I giggled because she was getting so excited about the redecorating. I was replaying my aunt's words in my head and the part that stood out was" Tomorrow you have school..." "Great," I thought. "Just great."
"Well you better get to bed, it's already 10:30. You have a busy day tomorrow. Better get a good night's sleep. School starts at 8:00, so you should wake up at around 7:00. I'll drive you to school because we are too close to the school for a bus to come pick you up."
"Thank you so much, again. I love you so much. I'll see you in the morning."
"I love you too, sweetie. Oh, and I already registered you for the school, so you don't need to worry about that tomorrow. See you in the morning!" She left the room and I was standing in a blank room all by myself. For some reason, I felt lonely, maybe because my mom wasn't by my side, or maybe because my closest friends were in the past. I started to get ready for bed and I continued to think about that.
I then climbed into bed and I lay there with my eyes open thinking about my day tomorrow, oh what a roller coaster it'll be. I then fell asleep and didn't wake up for the rest of the night.
