It was Monday, and Dylan picked me up from my house and drove us to school. He had to use his mom's car since his was ruined from the accident. Once we arrived at the school, we got out if the car, held hands and walked to the entrance of the school.
Everyone had heard about the accident, and once we walked inside, everyone was asking us a lot of questions about it.
Dylan and I decided not to answer any of them and to continue walking. As we went through the crowd of people, I saw Jessica with a disgusted and angry face. I quickly turned away and said to Dylan,"This is really awkward."
"I know, I feel uncomfortable as well," He said and squeezed my hand gently. "Let's go somewhere not too crowded."
"Okay," I said. Next thing I knew, Dylan was running in the hall and I was following behind him, still holding onto his hand. A smile spread across my face.
Once Dylan slowed down, I realized we were by the gym locker rooms. "Really, the locker rooms?" I asked.
"Yeah... It's weird, but it's empty over here," Dylan said while scratching the back of his neck.
"It's perfect," I said and placed a kiss on his cheek. "Just like you."
"Awwww," he said and blushed a little. He then crashed his lips against mine. He pulled away and said "I love you, Nicole," he then pressed our lips together again. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer.
We were interrupted by the bell and forced to pull away. Thankfully we have first period together. "You're the best, Dyl," I said and held his hand. I rested my head on his shoulder as we walked to art together.
As we were walking, I asked him,"Are you excited for prom on Friday?"
"I'm really excited, especially since I get to spend the night with you," I lifted my head off his shoulder and looked into his eyes. My eyes started to tear.
He pulled me to the side of the hallway, and held my hands. "Are you okay, Nicole? Did I say something wrong?" He asked worried.
"No, no, sweetie. You did nothing wrong."
"Then why were your eyes tearing?" He asked soothingly.
"They were tears of joy. I'm so happy we met, and that we get to spend so much prescious time with each other."
"Nicole..." He said and pulled me into an embrace. "If we never met, my life would never be this good." The second bell rang, and we were supposed to be in class by now. We pulled away and I looked around and the hallway was empty.
"Shoot!" I said with a nervous laugh.
"It's okay, as long as we get there before Mrs.Sorola takes attendance. Let's go!" He said and we ran to art together.
We ran into the classroom laughing and Mrs.Sorola said,"I'll let you two slide, come here for a second," and she gestured for us to go towards her desk. We walked toward her and she said,"I heard about the accident, I'm so sorry. You can come late to my class whenever you'd like, I understand it's been a hard time."
"Thank you," I said and we walked towards two empty seats together. In art, we didn't have assigned seats, so we could sit wherever we wanted. Everyday, we tried to find seats next to each other, and today was our lucky day. I put my backpack on the floor and held Dylan's hand underneath the desk.
I squeezed it gently and he winked at me. I saw Jessica staring at us with her cold eyes and she looked so angry, but I didn't care. I was happy, and that's all that mattered to me.
We were working on portraits of celebrities in art. I'm not an artist, and honestly I had no idea why I was in that class.
When the bell rang for the period to end, Dylan and I walked together to science, hand in hand.
I felt so safe and calm when I was with him, even if we were just walking in the hallway. I was no longer scared of Jessica, I just ignored her and hoped she would never hurt me again.
Dylan and I entered the classroom and sat at our lab desk. We were still lab partners which I was really happy about.
We were about to start the lab, so I grabbed the safety goggles and he got the chemicals we would be working with.
We put the goggles on and he started to make funny faces at me, and I laughed, he always made me laugh.
"Mr.O'Brien, you are supposed to be doing the lab, right?" Mr.Harker said.
"Yes," Dylan replied and laughed a little. When the lab was over, we cleaned up our desk and talked the rest of the period.
After about twenty minutes of talking, the bell rang for class to be over, and Dylan and I made our way to gym.
Unfortunately, Jessica stopped us in the hallway and said,"So I guess you two are a 'thing' now?" And she did air quotes.
"Yup! I am so lucky to have someone like Nicole in my life," Dylan said, obviously trying to make Jessica jealous. He then leaned over and kissed my lips right in front of Jessica. I saw her jaw drop out of the corner of my eye. He slowly pulled away, but I wasn't finished with him yet. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and pulled him closer, and he wrapped his hands around my waist.
"I can't believe this!" Jessica yelled and stomped away.
Dylan and I pulled away and started to laugh, she was getting so mad about something that was meant to be.
"Let's go Dyl," I said and grabbed his hand and we continued to walk to gym and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.
The rest of the day went by quickly, and so did the rest of the week, except Friday.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's Friday night, and Aunt Cassie was doing my hair. She curled it and put half of it in a nice bun . She turned me around so I was looking at myself in the mirror and I was astonished, my hair was perfect.
"What do you think?" She asked.
"It's perfect! Thank you so much, Aunt Cassie!" I was so excited and nothing could make this night terrible.
"Now onto makeup!" My aunt said and took out her makeup kit.
After about thirty minutes, my makeup was finished and once again, I loved the outcome.
"You're the best!" I said and got out of the chair and I gave my Aunt a huge hug. "I'll be right back, I'm just going to put my dress on."
I left the bathroom and entered my room. I closed the door behind me and I opened my closet. On the vallet bar was my beautiful dress. It was light blue, long and it was perfect. I put it on and I felt like a princess. I put on my heels and I was ready.
I went downstairs and my Aunt covered her mouth. "You look gorgeous, Nicole."
"I couldn't have done it without you," I replied.
"Would you like to take some pictures before Dylan picks you up?"
"Sure!" I replied. I did some poses in the garden in front of the house, and some on the grand staircase.
Then the doorbell rang and I opened the door, and I saw Dylan.
"Oh my gosh Nicole! You look amazing," Dylan said and a smile came across his face.
"Thanks, you don't look too bad yourself," I said and we laughed. "But really, you look great as well."
"I hate to interrupt, but can I take some pictures of you two lovebirds?" My aunt asked.
"That would be great!" Dylan said.
We went outside and stood in front of the garden. We turned to the side, and he wrapped his arms around my waist and my hands were on top of his. My aunt took the picture and we did another pose. This time we were facing each other, and I rested my head on his chest and my hands were around his neck. His hands were wrapped around my waist again and my Aunt took a picture.
"You two better get going, it's 7:00," my Aunt said.
"Yeah," I said and gave her a huge hug. I whispered in her ear,"thank you so much for everything." We pulled away and Dylan and I got into his car. As we pulled out of the driveway, I waved to my Aunt and she waved back. Then I realized she was crying tears of joy.
I placed my hand on Dylan's leg and said, "Dylan, I love you so much. I cannot imagine my life without you...I got so lucky that I met such an amazing person," I didn't want to distract him from driving, but I placed a quick kiss on his cheek.
He quickly looked at me and smiled, and turned back towards the road. "Nicole, it was definitely fate that brought us together. It's like we were meant for each other."
After a very passionate talk about our feelings towards each other, we arrived at the school and the parking lot was packed with cars.
Dylan got out of the car, and before I could get out, he opened the door for me and I stepped out of his car.
He held out his arm, and I held it and we walked toward the school. There were colorful lights flashing around the entrance to the school, and the gym was amazing. There were colorful strobe lights and blasting music. Not one person was sitting down, everyone was dancing.
"May I have this dance?" Dylan asked.
"Of course," I said and we walked towards the dance floor. We danced and had a lot of fun then a slow song came on and Dylan bowed and I curtsied. I felt déjà vu from when we had our 'first dance' before the car accident.
He wrapped his arms around my waist and I had my hands around his neck. We slow danced, and it was perfect, he was perfect. When the song ended, I leaned in for a kiss, and he kissed me back. He was so romantic, and I loved it.
He pulled away and asked,"would you like some punch?"
"Yes, please," I replied.
"Okay, let's go to our table and I'll be right back with them."
We reached our table, and he pulled the chair out for me and I sat down and he pushed the chair in.
"I'll be right back," he said and kissed my cheek and walked away.
After a few minutes, Jessica, Stephanie and Stacy walked over to me. Ugh, not them again, I thought.
"So you found your prince charming, Cinderella?" Jessica asked obnoxiously.
"Actually, I did," I replied with a smile.
"I'm happy for you," Jessica said.
"Really?" I asked surprised by what she said.
"Nope!" Jessica said and turned around, flipped her hair and walked away with her 'accessories'.
I rolled my eyes and I saw Dylan coming back with the drinks.
"Everything okay?" He asked as he put the drinks on the table and sat down next to me.
I turned towards him and said,"Yeah, they're just jealous of us."
He leaned toward me and gave me an Eskimo kiss. We laughed and I pulled away.
"Ready to dance again?" I asked.
"I'm always ready!" he said. Dylan stood up from his chair and held his hand out to me. I took it, stood up and walked back to the dance floor with Dylan.
We danced the rest of the night and never sat back down.
Then it was time for the crowning of the prom king and queen. Neither one of us expected to get picked, so we sat down at our table.
"The winner for prom queen is...Jessica Taylor!" the announcer said.
Shocker I thought.
She gave her quick speech, and then the announcer put the crown on her and said into the microphone, "And the winner for prom king is...Dylan O'Brien!" He turned to me with a surprised look on his face. I rubbed my hand on his back and he stood up, kissed my cheek and ran up onto the stage.
"Would you like to make a speech?" the announcer asked.
"All I have to say is, I love you, Nicole," Dylan said, and everyone slowly turned towards me. I blushed and waved shyly and everyone returned their attention to the stage.
"Can we get a picture of you two?" he asked.
"Why wouldn't you?" Jessica said, sassy like always.
Before they took the picture, Jessica grabbed Dylan's collar and puled him towards her.
"What are you-" is all Dylan could get our before she forced him to kiss you. I was mad beyond belief at Jessica. His eyes said it all, he was uncomfortable and wanted her to stop. He was not enjoying it one bit. He pulled away quickly and said,"Let's take the picture already."
Once the flash went off, he got off the stage and ran towards me.
"Dylan, it's ok-" he embraced me before I could continue my sentence. "Dyl, it's okay, it wasn't your fault at all. You had no control," I whispered into his ear. He slowly stroked my hair and I was rubbing my hand up and down his back, trying to comfort him.
"I'm so sorry,Nicole. Only if I saw it coming I-"
"Shhhhh" I said and pulled away. I could hear the amount of discomfort in his voice. "Dylan... don't worry about it. There was nothing you could've done about it."
There was another hour left, but we decided to ditch it and go back to my house.
"Do you want to stay over?" I asked him as we pulled into my driveway.
"Any more time I get to spend with you is precious."
"What are you going to wear to sleep?" I asked.
"I'm always prepared,"is all he said. He got out of the car and he walked to the trunk of his car. I followed right behind him. He opened the lid and pulled out a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt.
"Do you always have that in your car?" I asked, trying not to laugh.
"Yup, just in case I get stranded somewhere or my car brakes down, I can be comfortable."
"You're such a dork," I said and laughed.
We walked into my house, but my aunt was sleeping, so we quietly made our way to my room.
"I'm just going to get changed, and I'll be right back," I said. I took the t-shirt he gave me out of my drawer and grabbed a pair of sweatpants. I went into the bathroom, and changed into my pajamas. I didn't want to deal with my hair and makeup, so I took my hair out and out in in a pony tail. I then quickly took off some of my makeup with a washcloth and brushed my teeth. I came out of the bathroom and said, "Dylan, the bathroom is all yours."
"Thanks sweetie," he said.
I then turned the lights off, but left my door open, and climbed into my bed. A few minutes later, I heard the door close quietly and I felt Dylan get into bed next to me. I turned towards him so we were face to face and said, "Sweet dreams."
"Don't let the bed bugs bite," he said. I smiled and laid my head on his chest and his arms were wrapped around my waist.
This is a night I never will forget.
