It's Friday and Aunt Cassie insisted that I stayed at home, and I didn't disagree with her, I was exhausted and in excruciating pain.
I mostly slept all day and occasionally my Aunt came in to check on me. Halfway through the day, I decided to take a shower. I slowly got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. When I saw my reflection, I was a bit startled about what I saw. There were cuts and bruises all over my face and I looked terrible.
I decided to get passed how I looked and I jumped into the shower. Usually when I was in the shower, this was my time to think.
I wonder what would happen if Dylan never saved me... Am I starting to have feelings for him besides friendship? No! That can't be... But I think I do... Oh my gosh, I like Dylan...
I got out of the shower and thought, I'll never look at him the same way ever again.
I went downstairs to have a quick snack and I ran into my Aunt.
"Hey honey, how are you feeling?"
"A little better. Thanks Aunt Cassie for taking care of me," I gave her a hug and I pulled away after a few seconds. Then I went into the kitchen, grabbed a banana and watched my favorite show, Friends.
When it was 2:30, I got a text from Dylan:
Hey. Do you mind if I come over to check on you?
I smiled because he cared for me so much.
Of course, I could use some company :)
Dylan:
Ok! I'll be over in a few minutes.
I was debating whether or not to change out of my pajamas. Even though I was comfortable, I decided to change. I changed into a short, blue skirt and a short-sleeved white top. I took my hair out of my bun and looked in the mirror. Thankfully the cuts were starting to heal because of the cream my Aunt put on them.
I heard the doorbell ring and that snapped me out if my thoughts.
"I got it!" I yelled to my Aunt because I didn't know where she was in this huge house.
I opened the door and said,"Hey Dyl! Come on in."
He walked inside and said,"Wow, your house is amazing!"
"Thanks, I'm not used to it yet," I replied. "Let's go upstairs," I suggested.
"Okay," he replied.
I took him to the upstairs living area and we both sat down on the couch. "How was school today?" I asked.
"It was alright, it would've been better if you were there, though," Dylan said and started to play with his fingers again.
I placed my hand on his and he stopped moving his hands. He looked down and then looked into my eyes and I could tell he was happy, and so was I.
"Today wasn't very exciting for me, either," I replied after an awkward silence.
"Do you want to ice skating tomorrow?" Dylan asked out of nowhere. I could tell he was nervous, so I started moving my fingers up and down his hand and his breathing started to slow down.
"I would love to," I replied. "I haven't gone in a while, just warning you." I said with a little laugh at the end.
"Oh trust me, you're probably better than me," he said with a cute laugh.
"I guess we'll see tomorrow," I said cheekily. "Would you like to stay for dinner?"
"I don't want to be too much of a hassle," he replied.
"You're never a hassle, please stay," I said and put on my puppy eyes.
"Okay, I'll stay," he replied.
"Yay!" I said and jumped up from the couch we were sitting on.
He mimicked me by saying 'yay' and jumped up from the couch. "You're such a dork," I said and laughed.
"I'm your dork," he said and laughed along with me.
"I'm going to go order a pizza, what kind would you like?" I asked.
"Whatever you like, I like." He replied.
"Ok." I dialed the number and someone answered the phone saying,"Hello, this is Anthony's pizza, what would you like to order?"
"One meatball pizza please." I looked over and saw Dylan make a weird face. I tried my best not to laugh.
"For delivery or pick-up?" The employee asked.
"Delivery and the address is 34 Beacon Road."
"Okay, it should arrive in about 10 minutes."
"Thank you, goodbye," I said and turned to Dylan.
"Meatball?!" Dylan said with a disgusted look on his face.
"It's really good. Trust me, Dyl. Have you ever had it before?"
"No," he replied. "But I guess I'll try it," he whined as if I was his mother forcing him to eat something disgusting.
"Oh Dylan," I said and rustled my hand in his hair.
We both laughed and seeing each other laugh, made us laugh even more.
After a lot of talking and laughing, the doorbell rang and I heard my Aunt answer the door so I didn't need to answer it.
"I think the pizza is here, ready to eat?" I asked.
"I'm always ready," he said with a huge grin on his face.
We took a slice of pizza and sat at the kitchen table. He took a bite and he had a look of astonishment on his face.
"What do you think?" I asked.
"I don't know why I ever doubted you! This is delicious!" He said memorized by the pizza.
I laughed and said,"I'm glad you like it."
"I'm glad I like it too!" He said and continued eating.
A few minutes later, Dylan decided it was time for him to go home.
"Bye Nicole. I'll pick you up tomorrow at 1:30 for ice skating."
"Sounds like a plan." We hugged and I said "bye Dyl," as he walked out the door. I closed the door and leaned against it. A huge smile spread across my face and then I heard Aunt Cassie say,"what's that smile for?"
"I just had a great night," I replied and I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face. "If you don't mind, I think I am going to go to bed early tonight."
"Okay, sweet dreams. I'll see you in the morning."
I ran upstairs and quickly closed my bedroom door. Tonight was great! I thought. I can't imagine what tomorrow will be like. I heard my phone buzz, so I picked it up and sat on my bed. It was from Dylan.
Thank you so much for a fun night. Can't wait for tomorrow. Good night ;)
I smiled at my phone and I was happy that he had a great night as well. I got my pajamas on, put my hair in a bun and went to sleep.

I woke up early so I could catch up on any assignments I missed while I was at home and to get ready for later. Sure I had a lot of time to kill, but that would make me less nervous for later.
I changed into a cute beige sweater, leggings and a light blue knit hat that complimented my light brown hair. Just so it would seem a little more casual, I put on my white Vans. And just like that, it was already 1:25 and Dylan was going to be here in five minutes. As I was walking toward the door, I stopped into the office to let Aunt Cassie know that I was leaving.
"Have fun! You can ask Dylan if he wants to come over afterwards if you'd like."
"Okay, love you. See you later!" I ran down the stairs and the doorbell rang. I opened the door and there was Dylan in his leather jacket, jeans and a T-shirt. "Hey," I said with a smile on my face. I closed the door behind me and we walked to his car.
"Just warning you again, I am not good at ice skating," he said while turning the key and the car roared to life.
"That's okay, I'm sure we will have fun either way," I said and looked at him.
He looked at me, smiled and started to back out of the driveway.
"I can't believe this is our last year of high school," I said with a sigh.
"I know, I guess we just have to make the most of it," he said. I slowly started to move my hand onto his hand that wasn't on the wheel. His hand jumped a little because he wasn't expecting it, but then he held my hand and started moving his thumb along my hand.
We weren't dating, but it felt right. So right, that there could never be a wrong.
After a little while, we arrived at the rink.
"Here we are," he said as he got out of the car.
We walked through the parking lot and into the building. I felt a cool breeze as we walked inside. We got our skates, paid for a ticket and headed toward the rink. Thankfully it wasn't too crowded and we were probably one of the oldest people there.
I stepped onto the ice without a problem, but Dylan on the other hand, was struggling. I giggled and gave him my hand. "I'll help you," I said.
He took my hand and we skated hand in hand. All of a sudden, he tripped on his skate and he fell, taking me down with him. I landed on top of him and we were both laughing so hard. "You're so clumsy," I said in between laughs. He took a piece of my hair and tucked it behind my ear. "We should probably get up now," I said starting to laugh again.
"Oh yeah," he said starting to blush a little. In that moment though, it felt like we were the only ones there, like it was just Dylan and I. We quickly got up and he took my hand again and continued to skate.
When an hour passed, we decided to be finished with skating because we were starting to get blisters. We returned our skates and got back in Dylan's car.
"Do you want to come back to my house for hot chocolate?" I asked, hoping he would say yes.
"That sounds perfect," he replied and he drove us back to my house. When we were about to pull into the driveway, it starting to rain very hard.
When Dylan parked the car, he took off his jacket and gave it to me saying,"Take this, I don't want you to get wet."
"It's okay, Dylan."
"No, please take it," he insisted.
I took it, put it on and got out of the car. We ran for the door and went inside quickly. "You can go upstairs, I'll be up in a second," I said.
"Okay, meet you up there," he said as he went up the staircase. Then the doorbell rang, and I opened the door. I had no words when I the door was open.
"Hey Nicole, it's uhhhh....it's been a while."
Standing in front of me was Lily, my ex-best friend. "What are you doing here? How did you know where I lived?" I asked almost emotionless. I was clearly unhappy to see her.
"Your mom gave me your address. She also gave me permission for me to let you live at my place until college. What do you think?" She asked.
"No," I replied. That's all I could say.
"What do you mean no?" Lily asked angrily.
"My life is perfect now. It's never been like this before and there is no way I'm moving back."
"Who's jacket is that?" Lily asked out of the blue.
"Why does it matter?"
"I can't believe you, you already have a boyfriend? You leave Jackson, and immediately get a new one. This isn't like you Nicole."
"You are completely wrong, Lily. I don't have a boyfriend!" I was starting to get more angry. Why did she think it was okay to barely say goodbye to me, and then come walking back up to me like nothing happened?
"Then let me ask again, who's jacket is that?" she almost yelled this.
"This is a huge misunderstanding, Lily. You can't come back into my life like this and pretend nothing happened. Good bye,"I said and closed the door and I saw Dylan standing at the top of the staircase and ran upstairs with tears forming in my eyes. I embraced him and cried silently. He obviously didn't know what was going on between Lily and I, but the fact that he was there for me was incredible.
Before the door closed all the way, Lily pushed it open and yelled "WHO IS THAT!"
I took a deep breath, grabbed Dylan's hand and walked down the stairs with him.
"This is Dylan, he is my best friend," I tried to stay calm without crying. Truthfully, Dylan was definitely a better friend than that Lily ever was, but I would never say that out loud. And to me, Dylan was way more than my best friend.
"Oh, so you think you can just replace me? Well, I'll have you know that Jackson and I are together now, officially and I'm glad you two broke up. And he even said it himself, I am way better than you. So, is Dylan your new 'Jackson'?" She asked, obviously trying to get me to become weak.
"Please leave, Lily, and I never want to see you again," I cried and ran into Dylan's arms. When I was hugging him, I felt so safe and I know he would never do anything to harm me. And then, I heard the door slam and silence followed after.
