💎3-Scary First Day 😨💎
"Relax.. Just walk in" I said to myself and sucked in fresh air. I reached out to open the door.
My driver had dropped me at school, then helped me to the principal office. Who looked funny, I can't lie. He had three marks on his cheeks. Was it a cat that scratched him that way? It looks like a claw tore through his cheeks. His skin didn't have a colour that blend. His forehead and neck were extremely darker than his other body parts. Was it the sun that caused that? He was average in height and he talks slow as if he was counting his words. Other than that he was a nice person. He had appointed a student to show me my class. I am guessing from the middle school. He was so small. His uniform swallowed his body.
So sad!
Right now, I am face to face with the door to my future.
One step for man, one giant leap to my future.
I know that's not the way it goes. Bear with me!
"Are you going in or not" the boy with no name since he never told me stood behind me.
"You can go" I waved the boy off. He didn't go.
"Principal told me to show you the way and report to him later" he said bluntly.
I have no response to that.
Okay! Now or never! Although there is no where I would go to if I don't enter. Come on Susie!
I entered like a boss (coughs)
Ahh men that lie almost choked me.
At first, the noise greeted me but then totally silence followed. Not surprised about that! I figured I have been closing my eyes. I opened to see a classroom filled with students obviously and a man standing at the front, writing on the white board. The room was large and equipped like a class should be. It had a ceiling fan that kept the place airy. Table and chairs were arranged in rows and column. Eyes were piercing at me,
Everywhere looked blurry although I could see clearly.
I guess fear and nervousness caused it. I stood there for two minutes. I'm thinking they were trying to download what's standing at their door before the man, I'm guessing their teacher.
"Welcome, come in" he gave an warm smile. Then to the students, he yelled "Are you blind? Can't you welcome her?"
A girl from the back seat yelled. "Okay, guys. Let's welcome her" with that a banging sound was heard. They all stood up. Then chorused.
"Welcome to Golden Sunset International College/ Secondary School. We hope we will get along"
Wow! I feel so honoured. *sniff*
"Okay, sit down..." the bell rung, interrupting what the teacher was about to say. "Pls introduce yourself to everyone" he added.
With my millionaire voice, 😅 I said "My name is Susan Edward"
"You schooled where?" a girl from the front row asked.
"In Canada"
"Oh, you are from Canada?" The teacher asked.
"Yes, born and raised there"
Mumbling echoed after that.
"OK which one of you will be nice enough to give this girl a sit"
"Mr Adam there is an empty sit here" A voice from the back echo.
"Ehen! Bring it here! Keep it next to Chioma's seat. Yes.. near the window" Mr Adam instructed.
A tall dark boy carried a chair and desk to where Mr Adam had pointed.
"Okay! Go and have your sit, my name is Mr Adam and welcome to Nigeria "
"Yes sir" I had my sit. My heart that refused to stop banging since, settled in a calm pace.
"Okay! Let's continue"
"Sir, your time has finished" the boy at my back yelled again.
"God forbid, its only your time that has finished," Mr Adam joked.
Everyone was laughing except me, I, the girl I am, didn't get it. I just smiled, Later he left. I couldn't believe there were humans in here. As the door shut. A stream of heavy noise greeted him goodbye.
So loud, my ear can't take it.
I know I am not those kind of nerd girl. I am more of tomboyish but not completely. I sat quietly.
I am dying, help
You know some people are born to be angels in human form just as I was singing a song of boredom. I wanted to interact with them but I am new so nobody wants to talk to me. An angel in human form came around.
"Hi, my name is Chioma. I am your seat buddy" she told me. She was dark in complexion. Her hair was in cornrows and her small eyes gazed into mine.
"Hi, thank you for saving me. I was dying of boredom here" I jested.
She laughed out loud. Literally.
"You are very funny, I think we are going to be very good friends," I smiled at her remark. I feel that way to.
She continued, "So how was your former school?" her eyes danced.
"Well it was like all schools, boring and fun at the same time."
"So where there cool guys, mean girls, queen bee and all that?"
"I am guessing you watch a lot of American highschool films because mine was not completely like that. There were no Queen bee or cool gangs of boys. Just normal random people, all different."
"Really?"
"Well, for me! But I want to know more about Nigerian schools. Are they like the American movies?"
"No oo! Never in this world, but we like to pretend it is. Like you see those guys over there..." she pointed at them while I nodded. "They are the GSBoys"
"GSBoys, what's that?"
"They stand for Golden sunset boys. The baddest, rule breakers and naughty Boys. They trouble the teachers a lot."
"I bet they are the dumb people in the class"
"No o! They are six of them. The leader is an half caste..."
I cut her "A what?"
"Half caste! You know, father from Nigeria, mom from India"
"You mean mixed race?"
"Yeah! He is the leader and the third best in science class. He thinks he is so handsome..barf"
"You don't like him?"
"His ego is too big. So what if he is fine, abeg dey be plenty boys fine pass him. I don't know what they see in him o"
"What was that?"
"What?"
"You said something that caught my ear, um...they.. be"
"Oh! I said they are plenty boys finer than him. You know nothing of Nigeria?"
"No but I made some research" I danced on my chair like a child.
A female teacher stormed into the class. She started yelling at the students in a strange language. Some students began to apologize including Chioma.
"Okay! I have heard. Now follow me or else" she left with some students trailing at her back.
"I have to go now, Susan.
When I come back, we will talk more. Okay?"
"Wait, where are you going?"
"Igbo class, we didn't call her so she is mad at us. I have volunteered to guide you on Nigeria school life okay! So while I am away, do not let any boy get too close to you. I will explain later" she said in one breathe.
That was so fast I barely heard everything but I heard the last words.
Why should I not allow any boy come too close to me.
I was brought out of my thought when someone tapped me on my shoulder.
I looked up to see a boy,
"Hey fine girl, can we talk?" he sat down really close to me. Then some of his friends surrounded me.
I don't know whether I should be worried or happy that something interesting is about to happen.
Yes! Definitely happy
