Julie: Thanksgiving/Just the Highlights (134)
Sadly, even though I promised all my friends and family (very profusely) that I would be there, I didn't get to go home for Thanksgiving. I had a project due when we finished our short break and Matt, my partner, and I had procrastinated to the point of failure if we turned in what we had. So I stayed in Iowa (Matt is from there, only about two miles away from campus, so he didn't have to miss anything, the lucky duck) to help Matt finish it.
My parents were okay with it, already making plans to come and visit me at Christmas (since they hadn't seen any of where I was living yet, I didn't allow them to take me to Iowa because I would never let them leave). I tried to convince them that I should go to them, Iowa during the winter would not be fun for them, but they would hear none of it.
I felt bad about not going back though. I would miss seeing all my friends, particularly Eli. I hadn't seen him since the end of July or so, this was the longest we'd been apart (how co-dependent) and we were in a constant game of phone tag. Non-verbal means of communication became our normal (emails, letters and, in a pinch, postcards). I had to find a way to get home at some point and catch up with everyone. But who knew when that would be?
POSTCARD FROM HOMETOWN TO IOWA:
Hey, Jules. Sorry couldn't you make it home for Thanksgiving. Everyone misses you (including me).
POSTCARD FROM IOWA TO HOMETOWN:
Yeah it just worked out that way. I have a project to finish and stuff. Matt, my partner, and I have been working around the clock to get it done. He invited me to have dinner with his family on Thanksgiving, which is weird but sweet, So don't worry about me. I miss everyone (including you).
POSTCARD FROM HOMETOWN TO IOWA:
Shame on you, betraying your mother's cooking for this Matt's family's. Everyone wants you to come visit soon (including me).
POSTCARD FROM IOWA TO HOMETOWN:
Ha! You think my mom cooks Thanksgiving dinner. We would starve if that happened. I want to come and see everyone soon (especially you).
POSTCARD FROM HOMETOWN TO IOWA:
Everyone would like that.

Holy shit, this update actually fell on Thanksgiving. I feel like a wizard.
