Julie: Settled In/Just the Highlights (142)
I can't even begin to explain how happy I was to see Eli. He was a pain in the ass (and was proud of that fact) and cocky as hell, but he was one of my best friends. It didn't matter how long we were apart, I would always be happy to see him.
New York was amazing. It was a culture shock at first, but Eli helped show me around and it was really helpful. He let me stay in his apartment for almost a week and a half, helped me find an apartment, and then helped me move into the apartment I found. Sure his couch was uncomfortable and his apartment was definitely a bachelor pad, but it was nice. I liked having that experience before settling down. It was almost like a vacation.
When that vacation ended I had to face reality. But my new reality was almost just as nice. My apartment had huge windows, I had this cute little grocery store right down the street, and I had a routine.
Now all I had to do was find a job.
"Finally done."
"Don't be such a baby. It didn't take that long."
"I just don't have the stamina anymore, you know? I could barely get it up."
"Well you did a fine job anyways. I was pretty satisfied."
"That's what I'm here for."
"I need a shower."
"I forgot how sweaty I get afterwards."
"Yep. Moving's a bitch."
"Uh uh. Why did you buy such a big couch again?"
"Because it's amazing."
"I almost fell down the stairs."
"Which made it even more worth it. Isn't this such a cool apartment? Thank god for rent control."
"Definitely a steal. I might have to switch apartments with you."
"No way. You can wait until I'm dead."
"You mean when you die alone with a bunch of cats?"
"..."
"Ow! What the fuck?"
"You deserved it."
"Don't make me just get up and leave. I'm your only friend here, you know."
"Not for long. I have three job interviews tomorrow."
"Wow, you're cool. Needing to get a job to make friends."
"Shut up. It's not like you have a lot of friends."
"I have friends!"
"Girls you hook up with and never call again don't count."
"I have friends..."
"Thanks for helping me. I don't know if I officially thanked you yet."
"You're welcome. It was actually kind of nice. It made me feel manly."
"Wait, you're a man?"
"Very funny."
"Really, I thought you were an abnormally tall child."
"Fuck off."
"But you're so hairless..."
"I'm a man and you know it."
"Not really. You're just so... small. A man is dashing and imposing and you are none of those things."
"You're just trying to get a rise out of me and I won't let you."
"I'm totally getting a rise out of you."
"Nuh uh."
"Uh uh."
"You will never get a rise out of me."
"..."
"..."
"Eli?"
"Yes?"
"Was Jaclyn telling the truth when she said you have a small d-"
"That's it!"
"..."
"..."
"Um... I think you've proved your point."
"Better have."
"Eli?"
"What."
"Could you get off me now please? This is a little awkward."
"Oh. Uh, yeah. Sorry."
"It's all right."
