Julie: Reunion Time/Just the Highlights (230)

Only a few weeks after Eli's little "misstep" (I guess you could call it that), my worst fears were realized. And don't worry, nothing truly bad happened. What happened was that Eli and I both received our invitations for our fifteenth high school reunion. The idea of flying across the country and seeing everyone from high school, especially since Casey and I were together and Nora was alive then, was simply terrifying.

But Eli and I talked it over, and asked Casey and Grace (they were still going strong) for advice, and we decided it was better to just get it over with. Everyone from home had been calling us almost constantly, asking us how we were and stuff, and it seemed better to just go and see them. That way we could answer all their questions all at once and get them to stop calling us once and for all.

Not to mention our parents still lived in town and we hadn't seen them in a while. Eli's parents had insisted on visiting him for every holiday and my parents liked coming with them when he did. So even if the reunion went horribly, we'd still be able to spend some quality time with our parents. Really the worst that would happen was that Eli would have his parents watch Ava (free babysitting!) and that the reunion would go badly. People might be rude or annoying but that wouldn't be the end of the world.

"So are you ready for this?"

"Not particularly."

"Come on, what's the worst that could happen?"

"Those are literally the worst words to say in a situation like this. It's like you're just begging for something to go wrong."

"Don't be superstitious."

"I'm not!"

"You totally are."

"So what if I am? There's nothing wrong with being superstitious."

"Whatever. But I promise that it will be fine. If it's not than you can blame it all on me."

"Don't worry, I was going to blame it on you anyway."

"Of course you were."

"I just wish Casey and Grace were coming too. Then we'd have strength in numbers."

"We'll be fine on our own."

"But it would be helpful."

"Not necessarily. Casey is your ex, remember? People would think it was weird for you guys to hang out all night."

"To hell with what people think."

"You say that now. But five bucks says that you'll care about everyone thinks as soon as you get there."

"Nuh uh."

"Uh huh."

"Fine. A five dollar bet then."

"You're on."
