I wish I had told Eli not to call me. It would have made me act less rashly the next morning when he did. All he wanted to know was what I wanted to do, he seemed even more nervous than I did. I had avoided thinking about what I wanted to do, I had just tried to sleep a little, but when he asked I just sort of... knew. The best thing for us to do, the best thing for all of us, was for Eli and I to not move forward with whatever had happened and was happening between us. I knew that it was smarter for us to not be together because if something went wrong, we would hurt Ava. I told him all of that and he said okay, sounding more confused than ever.

But after a few days of radio silence, a bouquet of flowers was delivered to my office. There wasn't a note from the florist, like one on those little cards that they have. Instead Eli had decided to grab a piece of paper from a legal pad, scribble a note on it, and stuff it inside the flowers. 

As much as I appreciated the note, it was so Eli it was hard not to smile at it, I didn't really know what I wanted to say when I did call him. Then again, I knew I would eventually have to get it over with. So I swallowed my pride (and plenty of nervousness), and called him to figure out some ground rules.

 "Hello?"

"Hey, it's me. It's Julie."

"Hey! I'm glad you called, I didn't think you would."

"Well I couldn't just not call, could I?"

"I guess that's true."

"It's just better that we figure this stuff out now."

"Yes! It would be much better. For all of us. What do you want to do?"

"I think we should just move on and pretend nothing happened."

"That seems healthy..."

"No, hear me out. What happened was a blip on the radar, nothing we should dwell over. In the long run, it's better to not freak out about it or anything."

"Okay..."

"The sooner we go back to the way we were before, the better. That way we can keep from either of us getting hurt."

"Or Ava from getting hurt."

"Exactly! Ava should be our number one concern."

"I completely agree."

"So you're okay with just going back to normal? That it was just a blip on the radar?"

"Well I said that I would do whatever you wanted..."

"Yes, you did."

"And I don't want to go back on that promise."

"So your answer is?"

"Yes, I am okay with that. I'm totally okay with that."

"Good. I'm really glad you are."

"Mhmm."

"Okay well my lunch break is ending and I have to get back to work so..."

"Yes, sorry. I'll talk to you later?"

"I'll talk to you later."

"Bye Jules."

"Bye Eli."
