By my senior year in college, I had college figured out. College was my thing. I knew how much time I needed to study depending on the class, what classes I could miss if I was sick, all that stuff.

But then, halfway through senior year, I was told that I had to start planning for my future. So basically, I spent all of high school getting ready to college, got to college, and now they're telling me I should have spent my whole time at college planning to get a job or to get into med school? It's not a nice thing to do to a person.

Four years is not a long time. Don't procrastinate. College is not just for fun things, even though it is. But you don't want to be like me, the procrastinator that I am. Just don't.

"So what medical schools are you applying to?"

"I don't think I'm applying to any."

"Excuse me?"

"I don't think I'm going to be a doctor anymore."

"But you're pre-med."

"I just don't think I can handle it."

"Are you shitting me?"

"Uh..."

"Eli, you've always talked about being a doctor and helping people. It's one thing to decide that you don't like something, that's what college is for. But giving up because you don't think you can handle it? Unacceptable. You can handle anything you want to."

"Julie, it's not your decision."

"You know I'm right. So stop acting all high and mighty and just listen to me."

"Just go back to your work."

"Whatever. Fuck up your life 'cause you're a coward, see if I care."

"Fine, I'll think about what you said, okay?"

"That's all it takes."
