Eli: Casual/Just the Highlights (96)
Luckily for us (and possibly the world because our fights could possibly destroy it), Julie and I weren't awkward after that night. But things had changed, for the good and bad.
The things that were good were really good. I mean, if I'm going to be honest about the whole thing from my college-guy perspective, a good thing about it was that I got laid. And it was a good night. A good night. And afterwards instead of us being awkward, we were even more comfortable around each other. We had no reason to not be comfortable with, like, touching each other anymore. Don't think that I mean that in a dirty way. We were more comfortable with grabbing the other's hand to pull them along when we were in a crowd, I didn't feel awkward throwing my arm around her when we're next to each other, she fixed my hair when it got messy (all the time), stuff like that.
But there were some bad things, but they weren't that bad. There was only one real thing and it's just my nineteen-year-old self talking. After that night, I wasn't able to view casual hookups the same. Like what if the girl had the same feelings Julie did about how she had missed out? Or what if she had just been dumped? I realized how impersonal hooking up with someone at a party was. Like I knew before but now I had a whole new perspective.
"So how's it going dude?"
"It's going. My classes are killer."
"I know right. I don't think my teachers realize I don't want to spend all my time in the library. The librarian is getting tired of me falling asleep while I'm studying."
"Yeah the one by... What?"
"Don't look now, but that girl over there has been checking you out for like five minutes."
"Okay."
"You should go over there. Get her number."
"Nah I'm good. You go over there."
"If she was looking at me I would! She's a babe, dude. Don't let mankind down."
"Then I guess she's just going to be lonely cause I'm not going over there."
"What's with you?"
"Nothing. I'm just not into it right now."
